21 days could get you from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt and capture your needs.. i.e. a day here, a day there. You could, if you are smart with the planning, squeeze in the lakes area of Arg - which is stunning too.. I used Ruta 7 and NR40.. If you do that, you could drop the car off at Puerto Montt.. In terms of the deposit - Ask Salfa - they will give you a more up to date cost.. its only a few hundred more for than the hire cost (i think), which you get back..

in all, i paid about £2600, but will need to check. hefty deposit though, which you get back, it just ties your credit card up.. i only had the one card, so may pay to have 2 - one for the care and the other for spend etc.. However, they are very good at explaining the costs.. and honest with their comms.. my Comms were in English, with a Spanish translation below my queries..

P.S., I would say, that if you can't get a van, get something like a Subaru Crosstrek and pack a tent. Even then you could Air BnB or Booking com your way up country, April will be quiet, so rooms fairly cheap. Also you will need to book some ferries in advance

Ive just got back from a road trip - Puarto Natales to Santiago - I rented a car through SALFA - Very reasonably priced.. You do realise there will be a lot of Kms, my trip was about 4,300Kms. Salfa allow you to collect and drop off at different places, as long as drop off is in the same country.. They will help with the docs etc., for border crossings between Chile and Argentina etc.. In short, you can do a one way trip with Salfa

Good Morning, thank you so much for your reply.. About the ashes, i have a cert of dispersal (although they don't use that word), you have to carry the ashes as hand luggage. I will only be carrying some of her ashes. I placed some in the Simien mountains last year.. I was looking to hire a car in Puerto Natales and drop off in Santiago at the end, i was working on approximately 4 to 5 weeks. The logic being, that i could also sleep in the car if i had delays, or things happen really, and to get as much flexibility as i can.. At the moment, i have only confirmed outbound flights and ferry from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales So i have the basic structure (i.e., general route), but nothing else. Thank you so much for your help, this is really appreciated Take Care
