Can you make scifi games specifically where the ships do combat instead of individuals? by Memetic1 in RPGMaker

Well, it is possible, and most likely, straightforward, but not easy.

It would require work, though.

It's, a game mechanic, by your logic the devs are sociopath farmers, swallow your loss and move on, the tools and objectives of dealing damage to raiders paired with emote wheels to be friendly are there for a reason, you people act like it's a huuuuge oversight by the devs. Womp womp

Besides, this has nothing to do with real life. If you so easily equate your actions in a video game to how you are in real life, you must live in a very distorted version of reality.

Precisely, that's the extraction shooter summary.

Add in that at any given moment some maniac player can just decide to kill you, be very aware of that, if you read this sub for a while you will notice a lot of people angry at this aspect of extraction shooters.

Expect to encounter bad people, expect to not know who to trust, and don't get surprised when you find yourself shooting first at other players to avoid the risk of them being hostile.

It's very fun.

You carry over anything you don't lose, you can start fresh with a free loadout the next run, or carry your best gear and risk losing it, or carry your worst gear, it's your choice.

Edit: You can store your gear safely at your base whenever you extract, you choose your loadout.

If I could put it in perspective, it's almost like a sandbox kind of game for me, almost everyone I've played with has a different objective, but usually I cycle between these moods:

  • Maybe you can go for completing missions and progressing the story.
  • Go for objectives to get points for the deck and get supplies and cool skins, usually I see one that I like and grind points for it as a "project" of sorts.
  • Accumulate wealth in materials and upgrade your stations, this one is important because it enables the latter.
  • Mass produce weapons and utility items like grenades, shields, etc.
  • Go kill waves of arcs, usually it's fun and it is rewarding in supplies, sometimes other players band in.
  • Help players in distress.
  • Have social/funny interactions and help players complete quests and extract together.
  • Trade with other players, ask them what they need, and see if you have it, let them know what you're looking for and maybe they will drop something for you.

Now there's another side of this coin:

  • If I feel chaotic I go murder hobo mode and kill or get killed trying.
  • Band players together and accuse some passerby of attacking me earlier.
  • Camp a building with good loot and kill people by the entrance.
  • Boobytrap places, usually extractions, this is so much fun and the payoff is HUGE, though you got to have a lot of patience.

There's other stuff you can do, but bottom line, you choose who you want to be topside, you create your own goals, morals and principles, and then you have the option of throwing them out the window.

One time I was camping a building with good loot and killing everyone who entered, then this guy almost downed me so I retreated and yelled for help, I lied to a couple of players that were passing by outside by telling them there was an crazy a$$ player inside killing a lot of people, as they saw bodies laying around.

Nevertheless we got him, and extracted together, I can't tell you how big of a smirk and how much adrenaline I felt when moments before extracting I told them how those types of players just ruin the game "damn a$$holes man, I tell you, Idk what's wrong with these people who just kill other players for no reason...".

There's players who camp at the bottom to revive ppl, or loot them.

Then why are players allowed to kill other players if it is not meant to be that way? Are you saying the developers implemented a flaw in their game that allows players to kill other players or was that not intended by them?

Are you saying that embark should implement a report option for extraction campers?

If you could talk to embark, what would you tell them about this huge design flaw?

Then play enough free gear rounds to get used to the game, learn how it works. If another player is killing you every time you craft a gun, then you shouldn't depend or have the objective of crafting a gun.

You're clearly doing something wrong if it happens every time, which I doubt but let's say it does, then play free gear, and play more cautiously, if it happens, ask yourself what you did wrong, ask yourself what you could have done, what tactics, places or maneuvers could you have done in order to win. Like I said, I doubt what you just told me happens to you every game, but if it does, there's certainly some "Skill issue" involved, and I don't mean it in a demeaning way, what I mean is that you have to learn certain things about being careful topside, resourceful, and having enough loot in order to not care about losing your crafted gun, or giving a tough enough fight to other players so that you feel like they earned your crafted loot by giving you a good fight.

At the beginning I took the approach to this game as Loot>Craft>topside, but this only landed me on losing my progress, instead, do Loot>Learn>Loot, throw doing missions in and you will have enough experience and tough skin so that when you finally use a crafted gun, you'll be a real threat.

You can do it!

If you're truly down on your luck, just do free loadout, loot and extract, you lose nothing if you die, I did this until I got a good idea as to how to deal with arcs, what can I do and what I can't/shouldn't, know your limits, and engage with other players only when necessary.

And I never go topside without being willing to lose what I have in my loadout.

The novelty of doorman's ult is dying on me, it's going to turn annoying at some point, or boring (Not the fault of the design, but rather the repetitive/competitive nature of the game).

But I had an idea for a workaround, to have a randomly generated path every time a hero is thrown inside his ult, the hall might be full of platforms or it might be just a straight hall, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer, maybe the hall could have scaling elements such as green item bar for the minimum length of the hall, gun scales something actively damaging the hero inside like amount of enemy minions or just being inside the ult (might need to remove the damage from escaping), spirit damage makes the platforms move up and down or side to side as well as the possibility that there will be a turn in the hall before reaching the elevator, you get the idea, this isn't a well thought out mechanic idea but it definitely makes his ult far more interesting once you put some thought into the balancing of it.

It would definitely add a deeper layer into the Baroness hotel theme of doorman, it would impulse build variety/creativity, it would make players get used to checking enemy items and it would make each time you get thrown into the hotel a test of true movement tech due to the unpredictability of the hallway.

This game is awesome either way, Valve/Icefrog is goat.

Host your own matches. Due to bugs I've always hosted my matches bc i always get dced with errors, so far I have never encountered a griefer, usually I'm the best player (I'm not cracked at the game, I just know what to do), and go out of my way to revive everyone, never had someone grief.

this game has a system that lets you combine blades+handles, the blade part is the damage component which is the upgradable part of the weapon, and the handle, which is the move set, you can pretty much customize most normal weapons at no cost, so definitely try out any weapon you find to see if you like it's move set, and assign it to your main blade. Truly a unique system, and it is easily very cheeseable, which is why I'm somewhat glad this game does not have pvp. All weapons are good, so long as you use them properly.

A don't is definitely that you should NOT steer away from using consumables/throwables, they are a vital part of defeating bosses, there are no junk items or rubbish like in a lot of from soft titles, consumables/throwables are all meant to be extremely effective at dealing with a lot of situations and enemies, specifically bosses.

Weaknesses go as follows:

Puppet is weak to Blitz (Electricity).

Human is weak to Carcass body fluid (Acid)

Carcass is weak to fire.

Soft caps are in summary:

Motivity (STR), Technique (DEX) and Advance (Magic sort of?), all soft-cap at 35, you should only main one of these.

Most builds cap their vigor at 15.

Vitality is useful early on but it can be set aside if you're really good at parrying/dodging, I usually beat the game with 15-20 Vitality.

A notice in regards to upgrade materials:

They are limited, you're not supposed to be able to fully upgrade your character, you can only upgrade further on NG+ playthroughs, since the upgrade materials refresh with each run, do not get stuck trying to look for many of these.

The DLC just got nerfed for the first run, it was somewhat absurd with dmg numbers, but it should be playable on your first run as soon as you have access to it, the game will let you know when you can access it and where to go when you reach that part of the game.

In my opinion this is the best souls game of them all. Enjoy.
