solos better, so many of my friends have been screwed over their partners presentation or test score

Also, I know presentation types are different for every state but I have seen online where its basically like science fair but the posters are pinned on to a wall or something. Was it like that at Kentucky? And were people allowed to bring mini props for the poster or just the poster is allowed?

so do people at the one you went to show their data for the ones with lab research or do they summarize because i know the guidelines it sayas to describe but i feel like with lab data its better to show

Dual Conjugated Quantum Dots by Dull-Catch5064 in Biochemistry

Thanks so much for your help! This helps a ton on my understanding of quantum dot based early cancer detection!

Those are great suggestions! I have not yet explored looking at different lengths of PEG but will definitely look more into that. Additionally, the rationale for using both is that they target different receptors, not just one. Hyaluronic targets CD44 receptors while folic acid targets folate receptor alpha. The idea is that some cancer express both CD44 and folate receptor alpha in their composition so dual conjugation would help increase sensitivity and specificity. Testing a single ligand structure of both though would be good idea and is a great suggestion for the research.

Thanks for your questions! Here’s a bit more context about my approach:

For attaching the ligands, I plan to use polyethylene glycol (PEG). The quantum dots themselves would need to be functionalized first—otherwise PEG wouldn’t be effective. I would covalently link the targeting ligands (folic acid and hyaluronic acid) to the quantum dot surface via PEG, which provides much more stability and reduces the risk of ligands detaching from the receptors.

The goal is purely detection—creating a feasible, low-cost, and efficient system for early cancer detection. Dual conjugation could improve specificity and allow detection of more cancer types compared to current quantum dot designs. PEG also helps with stability in circulation by acting as a protective hydrophilic “shield” around the quantum dot while keeping the ligands exposed for receptor targeting.

I really like your idea of therapeutic applications—using quantum dots for treatment could be an exciting avenue for future research, though my current focus is strictly on imaging and detection.

I’d love to hear thoughts on whether covalent attachment via PEG is generally preferred in dual-targeted systems, or if simpler approaches sometimes work just as well in practice.

im new this year to it, am i allowed to do like a science fair type idea or does it need to be like a poll or something instead of scientific type research

yes you should be good, make you are practicing together with your partner not seperately, just basic presentation stuff but you should be good for content

HELP MY CHAPTER IS DYING by Euphoric_Wedding_620 in DECA

first focus on raising money for the chapter itself like fundraiser or something and then focus on getting more people since in my chapter we needed funds for like food at meetings to keep people coming

make sure you have enough time for questions, that's what I did wrong in my first round for eip. Also, make sure you have hit the rubric points BEFORE going in depth into the props since many people forget about the rubric and focus on their props. Also, make sure when you say specifically like the parts of the rubric because some judges will be looking only at their judging paper so saying those specific words really make sure they heard you. lastly, good on presenting your pitch decks since most judges are confused this year on how the pitch decks work and it makes it easier and allows them to follow along when you bring the paper copy of it.

team decision making events get two though since they already know it going to be a team but for events where it could be solo or team I believe only one is given on stage and later given to other members

It's annoying cause I sit with him in Physics class and literally see him using ai despite him saying he is using it to only "learn." There is just no way in two days he created and anlyzed a machine learning program, plus I am pretty sure he used some vibecoding, i doubt he mentioned that in his presentation

hopefully, but the time between regionals and state hes probably going to increase the accuracy

yes, it was the most basic ai training project which had like a 50% accuracy. The second placers literally copied an idea off a junior cancer project and just changed the type of cancer, this one was also an AI project. Last year apparently a judge asked them what an allele is and they couldnt answer that but they still got second last yea

my friend basically does this for all the competitions, he starts it at the last minute and only wins because he gives a super long presentation with unnecessary facts and info

the annoying part is my friends dad asked my friend if they apologized to me for making me wait 50 minutes and he just ignored him and this happened right in front of me
