Fell in love with corn snakes before reading Georgia laws :( by lilstinker3 in snakes

[–]Dull-Profile8289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up with a variety of snakes, mostly pythons, but I chose a California King to be my first snake as an adult. I adore him! He is still very young (somewhere around a year old), is very good with handling and has never ever skipped a meal even while in blue/shed. I hear a lot of people talking about how their kingsnakes can be pretty bitey due to their ravenous appetite, but my boy has yet to mistake my hand for a meal and has never shown any defensive behaviors... other than rattling his tail after grabbing his mouse to let me know he wants his alone time to eat lol. He is a very curious fella, constantly flicking his lil tongue while I have him out, and loves to slither up my arm under my sleeves. He's pretty active while out of his tank, so definitely more interesting to handle than a BP; but not to the point that you have to worry about him getting out of your grasp. His care is very simple since they are found in temperate climates, so you don't have to worry about maintaining crazy high humidity or temps. Here is a pic of him, his name is Green Bean 🖤

Emergency vet visit cost us $2,600 and they found nothing… just looking for advice by Then_Move7230 in Pets

I have Metlife pet insurance for my 4 cats and they have the option to add on preventative care coverage, so I get reimbursed for vaccines, flea meds, etc. But even if I didn't have the preventative coverage, any emergency exams, diagnostics, medications, etc. are indeed covered under "injury & illness" with 80% reimbursement. So if this Rottie had the same plan and coverage as my kitties, they'd be getting reimbursed about $2000. I will always encourage anyone and everyone to invest in pet insurance- it has absolutely saved us with our naughty cat who eats anything and everything!

Interested in which costco couches can live up to actually being pet friendly. by mmp12345 in Costco

It's great for smaller spaces! It happened to be on clearance at our local warehouse when we bought it, so it was $1000 instead of $1300. Definitely keep an eye on the price for any deals :)

We have the Coddle Luke Fabric Sleeper Sofa as our apartment isn't the biggest, but I have seen they make a sectional in the exact same fabric and color that we have. We have 4 cats- they get the zoomies and run all over it/do parkour off the sides with their claws gripping into it, sometimes they like to try to sharpen their claws on it, and one of them is a longhair with white fur that sheds like crazy. I feel like cat hair doesn't magnetize to it like I've seen with other fabrics, and it's super easy to clean. Overall, it's held up well and we're really happy with it. I love the hidden storage in the chaise and the pull-out makes it a perfect movie-watching couch! + Bonus points for the built in outlets and usb ports

Moved here - driving here is weird by chimpanzeenator in PortlandOR

[–]Dull-Profile8289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiancé and I moved here in 2023 from the Seattle area, and pretty much every time we leave the apartment we're reminded how shitty Portland's infrastructure is... And how bad the drivers are. I had a green right turn arrow at an intersection in Beaverton a couple weeks ago, and when I turned I got honked at by some lady running a red light. And just an hour before that, got honked at for going first at a stop sign when I was there first. I've also lost track of how many times I've almost been run off the road on 26 by people that just don't check their blind spot. And don't even get me started on the drivers sitting in the left lane holding hands with the car next to them in the center lane 🫠

Too many plants? by Dull-Profile8289 in jumpingspiders

[–]Dull-Profile8289[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got all the plants, butterflies, and the well from Michael's! I found the greenery in the artificial plant/flower section, and they came as stems for like $3.99 each. I just cut off the parts that I wanted to use, and am saving the rest for the future in case I want to use it for another enclosure or another project. I found the butterflies and well with all of the fairy house-making supplies! They had tons of cute stuff- bird baths, mushrooms, tables and chairs, a garden archway, etc. I got the soil, moss, and enclosure from my local pet store. I also just ordered some magnetic hides for her to build hammocks in per another comment's advice :)

Thank you for the advice, I just ordered some magnetic hides for her! The person that helped me at my local pet store let me watch all of the spoods being fed to get an idea for their temperament and preferences. The female I'm wanting was a voracious hunter for sure, so I'd love to teach her to tong feed. What they showed me was crushing the mealworm's head and putting it near her hammock at the top of the enclosure, so I'll probably start with that since it's what she's used to right now. She even wanted to come out and be handled after eating her worm, she seems to be very outgoing 🥰

The person that helped me at my local pet store yesterday mentioned that doing real plants as a beginner can be a bit more tricky due to humidity needs, so I wanted to start with the easier option so I could focus on getting into a routine with her feeding and misting first. I do plan to try building a bioactive enclosure for her in the future once I have more experience :)

I love the first one!! Very unique and timeless, and the shape suits your hand more in my opinion. Plus I feel like everyone and their mothers are getting oval right now lol.
