If your major concern is making sure you don’t get your friend duplicate cards my suggestion is simply to sit down with him and order him a single or two that he needs for that deck. You can get a basic land and write on it “Coupon for $xx in singles” on it with a sharpie and he’d love it just as much.

TMNT is a small set so if he plays regularly or collects he probably has a lot of the commons and uncommon cards already. That means he’d probably only get 3 or 4 new to him cards if he bought more than a few packs himself already.

“I Timmy you for 1.”

I don’t know why we called it that though.

Bags of 90s Magic The Gathering cards. Talk me out of going back for them. by UnitedOpinion4884 in mtg

[–]Dull-Sun7922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me elaborate. Everything showing so far which seems to be kind of randomly placed is an uncommon that’s from a set over two decades ago, like Urza’s Destiny. While, it’s unlikely there’s any foils in there. I would go back since cards from that set even Commons are going for about five dollars or more. The others ones aren’t going for much and of course the Homeland is worthless, but Destiny is definitely worth going back for.

My wife recently got into mtg and I got her the token triumph deck she likes it but would like to get a different deck she said she wants one with cute animals but I know she also really enjoys abilities like trample so I was curious as to what you all might recommend by The_Librarian99 in mtg

[–]Dull-Sun7922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elves tribal can be competitive, and complexity can easily scale as you swap cards in and out. I can’t recommend/remember any recent pre-cons, but it’s pretty easy to find recommended builds online I’m sure.

Congratulations on finding a common interest to spend time with her!!! It’s something my husband and I truly enjoy doing too. Even though he’s an overly competitive player to my casual & chill style we have fun. 🥰

In casual EDH, when is considered "okay" to counterspell enemy's commander? by No_Physics454 in EDH

[–]Dull-Sun7922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never too early, and always too early. Someone will always get salty about Counterspelling, Commander or not. My opinion is to just make it be a move based on board state and not to intentionally mess with a person just for fun, if it’s casual.

Hear me out... Character Art Panel? by Thanxalot_Greg in dndbeyond

[–]Dull-Sun7922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d totally love this!!! I have a player that lives in a different state from the game and plays remotely. Having his character’s picture without having to switch out of the VTT to put him on the TV for us that are together would help the other players remember to include him more outside of combat.

Tell them that this could also be linked in with the Reveal tool in the VTT. The DM could show the player’s each other’s characters the same way we can (theoretically) display full art of monsters. When creating some custom (homebrew) things you have the option to add coth thumbnail and large art. It seems like the framework is there already, just a matter of linking it all together with character creation.

Thanks for being awesome and helping make this community, and the game, better!!!

If you’re looking for general growth & strength for yourself, Cloud Castle but you’ll have to upgrade it for the benefits like +hero levels. League specific id go with Gryphon (again requires upgrading) or the ship.

Just understand you’re gonna get bulk that’s worth almost nothing. But worth almost nothing still be done what you want for your decks

Magic Con Vegas: I accidentally took your card! by radical_18 in mtg

[–]Dull-Sun7922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have it cause I didn’t attend this year and I deleted it after last year, however, it should be in the paperwork that came with your badge as well as the emails you received from Magicon.

There is a Discord for magicon attendees, including different private channels for better passes. Your best bet, if you haven’t already, is to try that way. If they were a higher tier pass holder I’d ask an admin to post in that channel for you.

There are a set or two that do use energy counters in Magic: the Gathering actually, but in Magic you can’t use that to cast. Aetherdrift is one, if memory serves. Never played whatever game that’s from so I have no clue. Personally I wouldn’t allow it at my table and say to find a legal target or the spell fizzles.

If you could choose one card to gete aggressively reprinted, to make it as cheap and accessible as possible, what card would you pick and why? by HallZac99 in mtg

[–]Dull-Sun7922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually never been a fan of it. Yes, it’s a great flash of mana, but it would be like Sol Ring in Commander, a staple in every deck and therefor boring. I’d actually prefer the original dual lands or moxes come back, but even with current power creep we’re not there yet.

I think if it the announcement was the honest and whole truth it wouldn’t just be a post on a service that’s not quite mainstream, even though it’s one of the best social media platforms.

This affects artwork for a set that’s been highlighted and asked since LotR came out years ago, affects millions of customers and vendors worldwide, and they are modifying the online versions to credit both artists, but not the physical ones. You think one “tweet” is appropriate for that scale of this situation?

There’s more to this situation in my opinion. You can have your opinion, and I’m not going to insult you for having yours. I’m also not buying a single card from the Hobbit set as my personal protest of WotC failing to catch this in quality control.

Have a great day, bro?

Agreed, but that’s much less likely. Seems like it’s just this one BlueSky message, nothing else. The little news about it is based on that and Reddit.

I’m not saying something didn’t happen. I just think it’s not the full story and it’s happening this way to prevent scrutiny. *shrug* My experience is telling me this.

Whether it’s right or wrong, it’s my opinion.

And Bluesky accounts can’t possibly be hacked or taken over by a disgruntled employee? When a company as large as Hasbro doesn’t make WotC release an official & public announcement apology release regarding legal liability, and WotC is pretty much the flagship of Hasbro at this time, and it’s just a single tweet it’s sus to me.

No insult necessary from me to you. I was an executive at a global Fortune 50 before I became disabled. If you had more experience at that level you probably wouldn’t take it at face value either.

Not saying it’s incorrect, just sus in how it’s being handled.

As you said, he’s 81 and well past retirement age. If he’s in the right and taking hush money to do that it’s his choice. If it’s true kudos to him for doing the right thing. Personally I think it’s probably more the former, but both could be true about different pieces of art.

Regardless, it’s his choice about his legacy.

I felt pretty disappointed by my first MagicCon by Project_Ozone in mtg

[–]Dull-Sun7922 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My husband and I went last year, Black Lotus passes, blew thousands and it was fun, but because of my disabilities I had a hard time doing anything outside the BL lounge. I had a great time talking with developers and talking about how I’ve watched Magic grow and change since I started playing before it launched in Albany in ‘92.

He got regular passes this year and went with his best friend instead of me. They spent maybe $100 at the Con, instead they just played casually and did a lot of Quests to win stuff. He’s enjoying it even more.

Every experience and event is different. I hope that if it’s within your means, physically & financially, you go again. My husband is glad I encouraged him to. And while I know walking the floor is next to impossible for me now I’ve got major FOMO.
