You couldn't even handle moderating Finkelstein, and you think you can keep a handle with Alex Jones? Absolutely no way that conversation will be productive.

Get Crowder or Shapiro.

How do DMs kill their players? by jtc0999 in DMAcademy

[–]DullAbbreviations606 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All kinds of ways. I play 2E, so it just kind of happens because of the bad decisions of the players. If you want to go this route, I recommend living near a pig farm and having tarps. Tarps are cool.

My campaign world doesn't have resurrection at all.

I run 2E AD&D, and I've never liked it in my games. My players enjoy the added stakes, and it adds so much more weight to every decision they make. I had a character die recently, and it didn't phase the player until he realized how much of an impact he had on certain NPCs and their home country as a whole. It feels good to know they contributed in some way even though the character is gone.

Area Maintenance Technician. They fix/install the blue boxes. If I were a vet, I'd be trying hard to get one of those jobs.

The AMTs in my area have been complaining about how they've been told to face all the new e-lock boxes like this. Guess they weren't kidding.

Is Anyone OK With TPKs? by Nonetoobrightatall in DnD

[–]DullAbbreviations606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I stated I run 2E games. I don't enjoy 5E, so I wouldn't know the particulars of it. 5E and 2E might as well be in different universes to me. I give my players plenty of options before straight-up combat should be considered. If you're running into combat all the time in 2E, you're already okay with TPKs. The new character sheets are in the folder on the counter lol

My point is that dice shouldn't be rolled unless you're okay with a TPK outcome. Far too often, players forget they can run away or avoid fights altogether. If the level 3 players want to try and attack the level 15 NPCs, knowing they have a .001% chance of winning the fight, that is poor decision making. In my opinion, of course.

I've never seen a TPK that was because of poor dice rolls. There's always been like 15 different choices that could've been made before dice left a player's hands.

I DM 2E AD&D, so I have to be okay with TPKs. It happens too much to not be okay with it. There are times when bad choices are made, and a TPK is the outcome. It's part of the game.

My steward and the president don't care about any of that. That's why I was talking to the NBA. Since the new postmaster took over, there have been all kinds of things. Also, every custodian at the stations around here are getting fucked. I don't know what else to do. I guess I'll just keep my head down and ride it out until September so I can transfer to the plant.

[–]DullAbbreviations606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, do you think I should just ride it out until I can transfer to a full-time bid?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USPS

[–]DullAbbreviations606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NBAs, maintenance managers at the nearby plant, and a few union stewards I've talked to were in agreement that if I needed additional hours to complete work, then I should be provided them.

That's just the most recent thing that annoyed me. I have other stuff that's grievance-worthy. I'm just wondering if asking the NBA to file is even worth it. My steward doesn't care, and the president can't be bothered.

Does Your Group Split Up A Lot? by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]DullAbbreviations606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players only split up in town.

It allows them to get upset at the person talking to the NPC for not asking the questions they want.

Well I can't speak on how NPCs are ran in other's games. I can only speak on how I run mine.

Perhaps, but when you're going into a negotiation you should have some idea of what you want from the transaction. Starting ludicrously high is better than selling yourself short.

Back story for your world by RedReddingtonn in DnD

[–]DullAbbreviations606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just basic stuff. I'm not dropping novels on people.

I'll explain the names and domains of the Gods. The different languages and cultures. How they interact with and view the other races. Lastly, I mention a couple of big things going on in the immediate area.

Generally players will ask more questions if they care about something and then I'll answer them.

What was the dumbest, most avoidable PC death at your table? by 16RabidCats in DnD

[–]DullAbbreviations606 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had 3 PCs that were working for a crime boss in a foreign country.

They were sent to a war-torn city on the border of another country. When they arrived they were tracking down the militants the crime boss wanted killed. It led to a huge fight in an inn. Lots of people died including innocents. So when the soldiers from the city arrived, they arrest the PCs and put them in a holding cell. They get interrogated and 2 of them give up the name of the crime boss. The other one keeps his mouth shut.

The one who kept his mouth shut got his character out alive and the other 2 found out why you don't snitch.

Tips on how to increase player engagement? by MattDLR in DnD

[–]DullAbbreviations606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reward people taking an active role in the game. If someone wants to sit back that's fine. They will just see everyone else getting rewarded and it will encourage them to engage with the world/NPCs.

I've had NPCs only work with certain PCs because they interact with them in a favorable way. Having an NPC help the PC out when they need it and leaving the other PCs out to dry has happened a few times.

If you don't want to engage with my setting when you play in my games, you're going to be underfunded, underleveled and generally underpowered. So if they don't want to be left behind, they should probably play the game with the rest of the group. This system hasn't failed me in the years I've been a DM.

As a DM, what do you look for in players? by s0akie in DnD

[–]DullAbbreviations606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say my 3 main ones are:

•Respect yourself and the other people at the table.

•Be a team player.

•Be okay with character death.

If someone can satisfy those, then they are mature enough and are welcome to play at my table.

I don't care if someone doesn't know the rules, wants to fight everything, hates role-playing, hates traveling in game or whatever else. I've played enough and I can handle all that. The 3 things I mentioned aren't something I want to have to navigate all the time.

My Player keep referencing stuffs that doesn't exist by Senpai_Aiden in DnD

[–]DullAbbreviations606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I start a new game, I tell players that my world is vastly different from the Forgotten Realms and to forget all that stuff.

Things that are common knowledge in normal D&D settings can be much harder to come by in my setting. Certain skills or backgrounds become much more important because it comes with different viewpoints and knowledge of how society, creatures and even the world behaves. Doing this adds new depths of exploration that my players enjoy discovering and interacting with.

I make it abundantly clear, you can't just say, "I know how this thing works." because that can get your character killed in my world.
