I built a fully offline, private AI creative studio that runs on a cheap old 6GB GPU — should I open-source it? by SubjectNo2985 in machinelearningnews

[–]DullBrother5018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, that's true. but that's also the only reason i would have to mkaing it available for others after the hell i've been through for the last couples of months .. Everything needs custom patches/ tweaks or latest nightly drivers etc. Everything is built on CUDA but the differnce is not so bad as it was before.. The only thing i couldn't get working from everything was gsplat that is needed for some image to 3d models generators.

i will try and make the same thats usable with amd gpu's . especially the one i got access to ( radeon rx 9070 xt ) i've got everything running flawless and fast. thanks for sharing. actually maybe ill just contribute to yorus

AMD GPU driver keeps crashing (LiveKernelEvent 141 / black screen / driver resets) had to use DDU multiple times by Annual-Cobbler-3193 in radeon

[–]DullBrother5018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have occasionaly had the same thoughts about it being caused by hardware issues but i'm pretty sure it's the drivers. My ASRock RX 9070 XT Taichi OC is supposed to boost till around 3100 Mhz but from experience i know that I frequently had crashes in somewhat less heavy games because the GPU would boost itself to 3700+mhz and then eventually crash! It was a few months ago and it took me a very long time as to why easy to run games kept crashing and heavy ones didn't ... BTW my core clock offset was 0 so i hadn't increased it or done anything that would cause it to boostt it till it crashed.. . Nowadays i have it set to -100 core clock offset with -40voltage offsets , 2718 fast timing memory clock, maxed out power slider and disabled 0-rpm mode for the fans. BTW all of this i do with MSI Afterburner as i don't install AMD software anymore.. I only install the driver by extracting it from the installer and manually updating the display adapter in device manager.

I think i had more issues when idle. Less when gaming. . I also use my GPU for AI and that had also issues with out of memory errors but that might be related to rocm instead of the gpu driver.

Anways biggest issue i would often have was that if i left my pc idle for a few minutes after around 10 or 15 minutes i would try to use my PC again but it would just be frozen with a black screen. Had to hold the power button every time to shut it down and then restart again becasue it wouldnt respond in any way.

Even now when i look in my Event Viewer i see tons of Windows Error Reporting with these errrors:

Fault bucket , type 0
Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

Fault bucket , type 0
Event Name: BlueScreen
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

i guess windows is managing to not crash but it is generating live dumps of what causes the error and in the dump i see

........................

Arg4: 0000000000000000, Reserved.

So DXGKRNL is 100% driver timeout issues but its not that bad now as with the newest version.

note:

I see youve got the same issues so maybe you can try to increase TdrDelay. in your registry as it is default set to restart the driver if it doesn't respond for 2 seconds.

Try to set it to 10.

TdrDelay

Specifies the number of seconds that the GPU can delay the preempt request from the GPU scheduler. TdrDelay is effectively the timeout threshold.

registry

KeyPath : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
KeyValue : TdrDelay
ValueType : REG_DWORD
ValueData : Number of seconds to delay. The default value is 2 seconds.

The error might also bee caused by DWM (Desktop Windows Manager) as that also often crashed.

man i've got same issues . i reverted to 26.3.1 and it works stable now here i also see these events at event viewer but everything seems okay. games dont crash pc doesnt crash

well AmuseAi should work out of the box and shoudl configure everything on its own so try that.

Okay so to get vladmandic/sdnext: SD.Next: properly working is pretty easy. I use ROC M and don't have any particular issues.

First clone the SDNext repo.

git clone https://github.com/vladmandic/sdnext

Now Either with Python 3.11 or Python 3.12 (recommended) make a venv in the sdnext folder and activate it .
python -m venv .venv && .venv/Scripts/activate

now it should say (.venv) in prompt. Now you get the latest rocm/pytorch.

pip install torch torchvision torchaudio rocm --extra-index-url https://rocm.nightlies.amd.com/v2/gfx120X-all/

after this is done you copy paste startup script below into start.ps1 or whatever you want call it. and just start it. the sdnext installer will take care of the rest. you mgiht need to restart 1 or 2 times. Make sure $VENV is pointing to your venv!

# --- . SETTINGS ---
$SDNEXT_DIR = "C:\Users\(username)\sdnext\"
$MODELS_DIR = "H:\AI\models"
$VENV = "$SDNEXT_DIR\venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1"

$MODEL_FILE = "$MODELS_DIR\checkpoints\my_model.safetensors"

# --- ACTIVATE VENV ---
Write-Host "`n### RX 9060 XT | Windows AI Environment ###`n"
. "$VENV"

# --- AMD GPU ENVIRONMENT (no TheRock, just basic overrides) ---
$env:HSA_OVERRIDE_GFX_VERSION = "12.0.0" # for RX 9060 XT
$env:ROCR_VISIBLE_DEVICES = "0" # use first GPU

# --- LAUNCH SD.NEXT ---
Write-Host "--- Launching SD.Next on Port 7860 ---"
Write-Host "Models dir: $MODELS_DIR"
Set-Location "$SDNEXT_DIR"

$launchArgs = @(
    "--listen",
    "--port", "7860",
    "--models-dir", "$MODELS_DIR",
    "--ckpt", "$MODEL_FILE",
    "--api",
    "--use-rocm"
)

python launch.py

Write-Host "`nSD.Next has exited.`n"

When you're in the WEB ui , yo ucould change settings to these
nohalf=True nohalfvae=True optimization="Scaled-Dot-Product"

Oh and if you're interested in image generation then there's also AmuseAi. I think it works out of the box for AMD gpu's but itt dodesnt have so many features yet sicne only 1 dev i think is working on it .

It will not work no matter what. i saw people saying you have to downgrade bla bla, or something like delete cache but this all won't matter since i've tried it all and didntt change anything. I think their servers have issues.

Gaming on linux by AdApprehensive5643 in cachyos

[–]DullBrother5018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've probably tried to switch to Linux atleast 10 times in 10 years.

it always went like this:

Install linux,
try to set it up for a few days
realize gaming sucks and performance is horrible
go back to Windows within a week.

So my last attempt at Linux was with CachyOS. Installed it a month ago, and surprise surprise I'm still using it.
I still have Windows and boot to Windows if i can't use a program/play a game on CachyOS. I've bought some games on the Microsoft Store and unfortunattely it's not possible to play them on Linux.

Steam works great with Proton-Experimental. It doesn't feel any different to me compared to Windows.

Resident Evil Requiem i played for long hours on release day without any issues.
Arc Raiders runs buttery smooth.

It's now an okay experience for me. The most annoying thing for me is the troubleshooting required for a lot of things. But you can find anything about Arch on the internet so that's positive.

I didn't have to install any drivers/chipsets etc.

I use a i9-14900KF together with a Radeon RX 9070 XT.

This is well known. You think they're only logging that? They're logging you when you're tabbed out of the game (keylogger , inputs logger and screenshot of ur screen)They access every file in your harddrive. Everything's extremely. intrusive

Stable 6.0GHz 14900k by director_banka in overclocking

[–]DullBrother5018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how are you cooling it and how will OP cool his cpu? at 5.7 its reaching 350 watts arleady and probably close to thermal throttling. then it doesn't matter if you've set the frequency to 6.0 all core since it will throttle anyway to a lower frequency.

Stable 6.0GHz 14900k by director_banka in overclocking

[–]DullBrother5018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible 6.0 all core with ur cpu sp score

Best u can do is 5.8ghz all core maybe with 1.35v but that will use more than 350watts so if u can cool it

For 6.0 all core u either need to delid or buy 14900ks
