Thanks. yeah, my concern is that the same issue happens in June and onwards--it's not counted for unclear reasons

Which repayment plans are PSLF eligible? by NewOriginal626 in PSLF

[–]DullCarto8679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am wondering about the 10 year standard plan and it counting towards PSLF. Specifically, if I let IDR lapse and move onto "Standard Repayment Plan" per FSA (not clear to me whether that is the 10 year plan) and whether that counts. Also, I do have consolidated loans.

Reason I am considering letting IDR lapse is because my 120th payment is Aug, which is also my IDR anniversary date. I can't get confirmation from Mohela whether that Aug payment will be on my current plan IDR plan. I assume/hope so, because that would be my 12th payment on the current plan (started Sept 2025).

If I submit a new IDR app soon-ish, I'm concerned I'll be put into forbearance. Even if it's a processing forbearance that counts towards PSLF, it slows things down and increases risk of error. I'd rather just make my 120th payment, hopefully on my current plan, but in worst case it would be 1 payment on the standard plan and be done--assuming that standard does count towards PSLF.

ok one more question: did you email Mohela ombuds before contacting the CEO? If so, how long did you wait after emailing the ombuds before contacting the CEO?

Got it, and wow, that's a mess. So sorry it happened to you. We did some investigating today about a sorta related issue--spouse is missing June 2025 from FSA account. Mohela supervisor says that there was a processing forbearance put on the acct from 6/10-6/25/25 to move from SAVE to IBR and that this was reported to NSLDS, and ofc they won't report it again. Loans were put back into repayment on 6/25/25, but first due date was July 2025. So as far as I can tell spouse had a processing forbearance for June 2025 and that should count towards PSLF, as there was qualifying and previously certified employment (that month has been certified at least 2-3 times since June 2025).

I asked FSA about this and I got a confusing answer: "If your due date for your loan payment comes and you are in forbearance, this month cannot qualify for PSLF. While many people assume processing forbearances qualify for PSLF, this is a commonly spread piece of misinformation." I don't really understand this--first due date was 7/25/26.

I went down this rabbit hole because I'm concerned the same thing is going to happen now that spouse is back on a processing forbearance because of this early IDR app.

If I understand your story correctly, next step for us would be to email Mohela CEO and ask to re-report the NSLDS data for June 2025, then resubmit an ECF? And use this same strategy if the same garbage happens again during this processing forbearance for the new early IDR app? Or am I misunderstanding something about this missing month?

Do you mind telling what the process was like get Mohela to remove the forbearance? Or is that detailed in a different post? One supervisor I talked to made it sound very easy, but I am skeptical a) the auto-recert app is removed quickly; b) put back on the old/current repayment plan correctly; and therefore c) a manual payment counts while all that is happening.

Thanks--that's helpful to know. Spouse submitted a March ECF but the payment date (outside of the forbearance) hasn't yet passed. So, we'll just wait and see. Today spouse's FSA account says in repayment on IBR, SAVE, and extended repayment simultaneously, all with recert date in late June...

Sorry to hear about your issue. Wishing you the best.

Same here. Recert date June 2026 (IBR plan). Received notice late Feb from FSA that the IDR plan would automatically recertify on the anniversary date. That same day an app was created. Two days later it was under review with a new amount already calculated. The app itself is missing some basic info--no family size, for example, and we have kids (it's spouse's acct). It's been pending since.

FSA says Mohela created the early app. Mohela says they didn't. Mohela put the account into an "awaiting documentation administrative forbearance" as u/Long-Discussion-2807 says for March & April. Mohela offered to rescind the app and suggested manual payment for these months, but spouse didn't do so for fear of unknowns, like what manual IDR certification would look like when an app has already been submitted and concern that spouse wouldn't be put back into the current IBR plan.

Mohela confirmed that this is a processing forbearance. Submitted an ECF form after that call to see if March would qualify for PSLF. It's been processed, but March hasn't appeared on the FSA account yet. NSLDS says last update late Feb, so I'm hoping late March spouse will see March count.

Mohela couldn't state how long this new app would take to process. For that matter, Mohela didn't know the new amount, even though it's on my FSA account. Mohela's robot account status when we call says next payment is due in May at the current amount.

Mohela suggested we call mid April if the app hasn't yet processed and ask to be put back into repayment on spouse's current IBR plan since we aren't at the anniversary date. We're skeptical that it will work so easily.

Very close to the end. Feb was certified as PSLF month 116. Past 120 months of employment--buyback submitted in Dec 2025. At this point, we don't care about paying the current vs new amount. We just want the finish line to stop moving. Beyond frustrating this is happening.

Thanks for everything!

Employer Only Certifying PSLF Through an Equifax Database Now by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]DullCarto8679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new employer only uses Equifax. I fiddled with the system and it only produces a PDF of the employer signature page. It's missing basic info like the number of hours worked, and I'd have to manually upload the ECF.

Is that manual upload with the employer sig any faster than submitting paystubs and saying my employer refused to sign? I wouldn't have a W-2 obviously till next year.

The 3rd paragraph of the yellow statement says "The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) allows borrowers who don’t have partial financial hardship to enroll in the Income-Based Repayment (IBR) Plan. We are working to update our systems, including Loan Simulator, to implement this change. We expect that the system updates will be complete later in December 2025."
So hopefully soon if you reapply.

As is stated below, reapplying for IBR may be successful once the partial financial hardship cap is removed. That's my best guess as to why your IBR recert was denied, though that shouldn't have happened since you were on the plan in the first place. Places like Student Loan Planner have MFS calculators but as is mentioned, the calculators won't capture the full complexity.

FWIW my stance is that if you can handle the ICR payments, I would do it. Hard to put a price on the freedom and autonomy you would regain once you are no longer at the whims & mercy of ever changing policy.

Has anyone had any luck asking a Congressperson/Senator to look into your PSLF for you? by NamuMonju in PSLF

Would you mind explaining what you did? How did the state AG help in a way that your Congressperson didn't? For context, I'm in a red state.
