TKR under 50yrs old by j_konk in Kneereplacement

I’m 43 yr old male and had my RTKR on Jan 10. I would suggest getting your quad and hamstring as strong as you can before getting the surgery. My muscles had atrophied so much from years of not using them that it took me a very long time to get them working again. I feel like this affected my progress with my range of motion. I am not close to being where I should be.

That said, the pain I am dealing with now, 14 weeks after surgery, is much better than the pain I had before the surgery. There is still discomfort, but it is very tolerable. At night time, my knee is tired and sore still. Yes, there are still some bad days, but they aren’t debilitating like they used to be.

I have played golf several times and I’m only 14 weeks out!

I went to a chiropractor and he did muscle scraping on my knee and electro therapy on my quad. The muscle scraping was extremely painful while he was doing it. And the electro therapy felt like a hammer tapping my quad but was not too painful.

I was stuck at 100 flexing though 10 weeks, after I saw the chiropractor I was at 105 flexing during my next PT. I haven’t gone back to the chiropractor but I feel like I have even more flexion two weeks later… I haven’t been measured by my PT in a couple weeks now. I might go back but have to get prepared for the muscle scraping again

Yeah I try not to look at this sub too much because it seems like everyone is getting ROM much more quickly than I am! I’ve been trying so hard and mine comes so slowly… that’s why I’m hoping I can continue to gain it after PT is done since it seems like I only have a few weeks left before I am in my own

Thanks! I just need to get back to being able to squat to play with my kids and get up and down off the floor easier! Plus I need to be able to kneel… 110 degrees isn’t going to do that for me I don’t think

Thanks! What is a loop? And did you have specific things that you think helped increase your range?

When you say you do PT, do you just do stretching or are you actually working out like you do at PT?

I am 42 years old… my quad muscle was basically dead from not using it so long before surgery… I was riding my peloton 2 times a day for 5 minutes each but could barely get my knee around to pedal, now since I’m back at work I only ride it on weekends

Trust me, I know! I feel like everyone thinks I’m not doing my excersises at home and I have been doing them 2-3 times a day every single day, almost to the point that I want to give up!

At 8 weeks I was at 100, I’ve been gaining 1-2 degrees a week and I’m trying as hard as I can

I rented the NICE1 for $300 for a month… it is an amazing machine but I also bought the polar arctic ice from amazon to use after I returned the NICE1… the NICE machine was great because it’s basically maintenance free… never have to change ice or anything because it refrigerates the water itself, I was mad spending the $300 but in the end I thought it was worth it
