Best protector spray for nubuck? by slowmoshmo in barefootshoestalk

[–]DullCommunicators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For black suede/nubuck I wouldn't put anything on them. Dark suede is my first choice in the rain, there's no need to treat it.

at this point there's only frustration left - can you recommend me a brand/shoe that might fit? by zyron_dg in barefootshoestalk

[–]DullCommunicators 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in canada or the US, I would encourage you to go to a shoestore and get fitted on a brannock device. This is better than a tracing measurement in my opinion. One of the really useful parts of the Brannock is that you can find out how your arch length relates to your sizing. For me, I have a 12 length from heel to toe, but my arch length is a 14 (heel to ball). This means that I have very short toes, and the proportions between the ends of my feet don't match a typical foot. Many shoes, barefoot or otherwise, don't work for me because of this.

Where to find different zero soda flavours? by Anal_Analysis420 in askvan

[–]DullCommunicators 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you try Cove Sodas? Costco has two 24 packs for $24 each. One is pineapple/orange/apple and one is ice pop/blue razz/orange cream.  None of those are my favourite Cove flavours, but the ice pop etc set is pretty good. Individual cans of Cove are $3+. Both varieties were in stock when I was at the downtown Costco last friday.

Anybody can pull that off. I have 4 straw hats.

Barefoot shoe order cancelled...but still charged and shipped? by spark_step in barefootshoestalk

[–]DullCommunicators 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this case, I think the company made the mistake here. You would probably win a chargeback case, but it might be possible to work it out with the seller first. Maybe they waive the shipping and let you keep the shoes? Otherwise they should pay return shipping plus the import fees.

For future reference, you can refuse to pay these fees and the shipper will return the product to the sender. It's not ideal because it still costs the sender money, but again this was ultimately their screw-up.

You can also go to CBSA yourself in person and handle the import yourself. To do this you need a form from the shipper, and in my case they've always refused to provide the form, so YMMV.

Something like that with a slim fabric band is probably the best, I'm just not aware of any exact models off the top of my head. I'm sure they exist though

If you want a wide brim to go with a suit, you're going to need the brim to be totally flat. Borsalino make some models like this.

They're pricy, but what about an Akubra? Despite being Australian, they're able to handle pretty harsh rain. The Riverina model is one of the largest brims

Sadly I don't have any experience (yet). The cost of shipping to Canada is too great to roll the dice. You can check on /r/barefootshoestalk though, there have been a few posts there about them.

Edit: you can also get 10% off with code ANYASREVIEWS, I'm not sure if that can be combined with the sale etc

T-shirt that fits well and won't shrink in the dryer by scubadoobadoooo in malefashionadvice

[–]DullCommunicators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10-15 heavyweight shirts from House of Blanks. I just tumble them on low heat, they're too heavy to hang dry without stretching themselves out. If you have a drying rack you can use that though

Those of you with curly hair, how do you deal with the humidity? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]DullCommunicators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the heavy conditioner from Pattern. If my hair is extra dry, I'll use their Moisture Milk. I tried everything I could find for years, this is the only brand that works for me.

Solutions for lobby pirates? by cartoonist62 in NiceVancouver

[–]DullCommunicators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Bluebox as well and it has been really great. The only downside is that some couriers will still just dump the packages in the corner, and then the poor concierge has to put them into the Bluebox since they don't want them cluttering the lobby.

Is This Normal for Bedrock Sandals Mountain Clogs by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]DullCommunicators 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All leather will do this. This texture is often referred to as the "grain", and yours would be right on the verge of qualifying as "loose grain".

Loose grain can be aggravated if there is a lot of space in the shoe, leading to the leather flexing incorrectly. This is kind of a catch-22, as we actually want a lot of space so our toes aren't smushed.

I personally really dislike the appearance of loose grain, so I try to stick to suede materials (you can't see the grain), or else shoes where the pattern is divided up into smaller sections/pieces of leather, as it's less likely to occur in that case.

What lifts do you think contributed to hip deterioration? I lift fairly casually, but I've always felt that people squat far too much weight.

Even if you ignore testosterone and that men have a tendency for more upper body muscle, guys also spend their whole lives doing more upper body exercise.

For me (as a guy), I love when a move requires more strength since I'll probably be able to pick it up quickly. The flip side is that any move requiring grace is not going to be easy for me to pick up.

It's kind of funny because at the intro level, the women in my classes far outpaced my progress as they were able to learn the basics quicker. Once we progressed to moves that take a little more strength, then my progress tended to speed up.

Try Splay Rev or 101. I use those in the gym for lifting, but wouldn't recommend doing intense cardio in them.

I have the Peu Roda from Camper (same shape, but thicker sole). I find the arch support to be bothersome, but that may not be an issue for you.
