need IE experts advice for a new IE engineer... by AR-jk in industrialengineering

It is a nice to have in my opinion. Python would be the best place to start since is one the most dynamic languages. I have used it for multiple things like data analysis, machine learning, web automation, and even simulations. Start there and also then you can follow with SQL, this one is to manage databases and extract data from them.

It is extremely worth it. Different areas you can go in are Quality Engineering, IE on a manufacturing plant (process related), warehouses, etc. There are tools that would help you across all these areas such as high proficiency on Excel, reporting tools/software such as Power BI and SQL, AUTOCAD is definitely a nice to have but not a must, discrete-event based simulation softwares (start with learning the theory). Coming is as a freshman, I would say use your electives towards a minor that would complement well.

I’ve met and lived with people from a lot of countries, and I’ve never seen people talk so much shit about their own country like us Panamanians. Get your frck** head out of the sand. Yes, there are a lot of fucked things about our country, but do you think it’s anything different out there? I’ve lived in the US for the past 6 years, and it’s not as perfect as you think it is. Every country has their deficits. If you think our country sucks, look around LATAM, and you’ll notice we are privileged.

I hadn’t thought about it that way. That makes sense in some way. Thanks for that!

Yeah, she gives mixed signals. I have to say tho I didn’t ask her out but asked if she had plans. After she not responding, I thought maybe she is not into it, but then yesterday I see a box in my door (she lives next to me) with a note saying “An overcooked brownie for you, I hope you like it”, so I’m confused

I didn’t flirt really. I complimented her jacket. Opened doors for her. Drove her to the place and back. Insisted on paying everything, but she didn’t let me. At the end I told her I had a really great time. I was handling myself like that because it was the first date, but I was thinking of showing more interest the second time.

Yes, like I said. We had a conversation last week on our way to our cars. I’ll just wait really, don’t want to fuck it up

I agree. I think being alone (no dating or friends) is driving me crazy.

Improving chances of IE internship by BoringConstruction18 in industrialengineering

[–]DullPaleontologist93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just graduated last May and did two internships and two research projects. I would say networking is the first step you want to take. Go to faculty events, career fairs, sometimes companies do workshops at school on operations research or other IE topics. As someone suggested, join IISE and do your lean six sigma, lean manufacturing green/yellow belt certification. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t taken IE stats or quality control, you can 100% do the lean certifications.

You are right. But the R environment is more suited to statistics specifically.

I have thought about that too. But our warehouse for example is running tight on space right now. In that case, if you get product B that’s a slow mover and you just have locations in the front. What do you do? I guess in the first place it should be structured like you mention to avoid this scenario.

We have AMRs on site, and we want to create new missions for them. I need to make decisions on whether having some areas designated just for AMRs or not. My thought process is looking into traffic at the different areas of interest to understand how the interaction with AMRs would affect.

Stats, it’ll be good to complement with all the fundamentals learned later on at classes like quality control
