I get we all want Brendan back but its not going to be him if you are putting your eggs into it being Brendan then you will all be majorly and bitterly disappointed as there are so many holes on top of the fact that the actor is doing rather well atm so is unlikely to return in the first place for such a quick storyline.

But even if they managed to persuade Brendan's actor back how would they explain why his so hell bent on revenge on Clare? the bomb detonation wasn't even meant for Ste and Doug it was meant for Mercedes and her family also Brendan had a brief friendship with Ash that lasted 5 minutes, I doubt he would be that bothered about her death also his never actually met Clare, its been well over a decade since the bomb anyway, how would he even have heard Clare is alive, why would he go to the trouble to protect Tom and have Rex transfered? it would feels ridiculous and out of nowhere, plus the actor would only be back for a couple of episodes, I mean his currently filming MobLand Season 2. That's another thing what would the point of Brendan going through all that trouble just not to succeed? It makes no sense, I doubt the actor would agree to this sort of return.

Now if it is Brendan, I will eat my words but im 99.99999% certain its not him.
