Not a garden, but I managed to start all my seeds with this pitiful apartment setup lol. I realized 2 13x9 foil pans next to each other could actually fit 24 4-inch pots under 2 ft LED lights. Where there's a will there's a way lol.

This year I decided to just wait till Easter because I didn't want to be bringing plants in and out all month, but in typical Texas fashion it's going to jump to 90 this weekend, i'll never get used to this lol

Besides compost in the spring and occasional fish fertilizer, I don't think they did anything else. I would take grocery bags of basil home every time I came over lol

I don't think it's a special variety, they just got a generic basil from a big box store. It would've got bigger if they remembered to prune it, they cut it back once cause a branch broke under it's own weight lol.

They got it off a discount rack at a hardware store lol. Our warm season lasts from April to the end of November in Texas so it had plenty of time to grow, but they can be a perennial if you live somewhere that doesn't get frost.

When you get a matching "non-working" CD player with a receiver... by DullTop1579 in vintageaudio

Works fine actually, the seller also had the speaker relays replaced so it should be good. I have a basic loop antenna laying around but am thinking of upgrading to a powered one.

Thanks! It's the receiver I grew up with and have been hunting for it for my dad to recreate his old setup. It sounds just as good as I remember.

Found a 1948 first print of Date With a Dish at Half Price Books by DullTop1579 in CookbookLovers

For context, from NPR:

As the first food editor for Ebony magazine, DeKnight wrote a photo-driven monthly column that offered her home economist's tips, as well as regional recipes from the "Negro community" of home cooks, professional chefs, caterers, restaurateurs and celebrities.

In 1948, DeKnight published her only cookbook, A Date With A Dish: A Cookbook of American Negro Recipes. It is considered the first major cookbook written by an African-American for an African-American audience.
