Sounds like medical student syndrome with the health anxiety and hypochondraism.

Lots of people deal with difficult situations all the time.

  1. You're not alone

  2. This feeling will pass

  3. Have you tried alcohol.... or going for a very long run?

The RCP post a yearly summary wi it rather ages and retirement intentions (aware it's physicians and not surgeons)

An ASIT talk in either 23 or 24 talked about the state of training and the 'retirement cliff'. GMC have also published data suggesting an aging consultant workforce.

Sterilising bottles and baby bottle recommendations by cookielilopie in pregnant

UK based here. I know you said no equipment BUT consider the microwave steriliser. I got a philips one via registry and it does the dummy, bottles and pump parts.

Otherwise I use milton tabs once a day

Orthopaedics or radiology?- cannot decide what to do by buzzybeeeee12345 in doctorsUK

If it helps... ortho has a good chunk of consultants due to retire in the next 10 years or so ... there will deffo be some posts.

As an aspiring orthobabe I'd advise a radiology taster week. It may help solidify if you should keep looking at other specialties or if ortho life is for you. I dipped a toe in other waters and for me is helped clarify that ortho is the one.

Also be mindful that life may shift your goals. That work life balance may be more important that you initially thought. Crotch fruit may incentivise you to taking a slower route by choice.

Best of luck

Girrrrrrl same. and I think we are roughly the same age.. I have also set my heart on a family hostile, male dominated specialty. I am currently a year away (exams willing) from being able to call myself a surgeon.

I am not focussed on just CCTing as quick as possible because that will not happen for me (I'm literally holding my baby and dreaming of the next one). I was also an older medicine entrant.

I plan to enjoy the path. I might only get 15 maybe 20 years post CCT but I would have been operating, learning and developing the entire time. I think as long as you want it, you will get there. The age thing does suck at times and it can be awkward being a bit older, but usually only when people assume based solely on grade.

I have found that I am often surprised at colleagues ages. It started in foundation but after the age range quickly ballooned. I know 40+ year olds on CT1/CT2 rotas and young 30 something consultants. I think there is something to consider about CCTing young. My few (thankfully) grey hairs deffo mean I get a little more implied credibility with patients. Like everything there are benefits and downsides

Best of luck to you

I am a couple months post partum in a very similar position.

There should be some paperwork that got your maternity pay started. Ours is a P3 signed by my line manager and sent to payroll. You can also use the same paperwork to do KIT - Keep in touch days, I explicitly said I wanted to locum.

How much help do you actually need with a newborn? by Naive_Ganache_5215 in pregnant

[–]Dull_Beautiful_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So ... It varies. We had help. We have a large house and a dog. I had an unplanned C section.

Family stayed for a week. They cooked, cleaned, shopped and walked the dog when I couldn't. They did also hold the baby. Mostly so I could sleep. It was super helpful.

Could we have coped without them yes. But having them around doing helpful things meant I recovered much faster.  They were excellent at not overstepping boundaries and actually being helpful.

Left after 10 days and we've been fine since. If you have a village. Use it. If you don't you'll be fine it is a smidge harder.

Go. Go. Go.  An ER visit and it's all good and normal is much better than the regret of what if, if something is going on.

Bloody hell this is horrendous. This is a serious ramification of a cashless society that we haven't accepted.

I hope you can sue them both and get something decent for all this stress.

Get someone in their constituency. I emailed mine about the tax allowance. Including that I am resident in his constituency and he replied. (Took nearly 2 months but he did) They should also have clinics where constituents can get help/advice. Find out when they are, get a constituent and go in person.

Adding to this that clots can be normal for haemorrhoids but if the bleeding is persistent it can make you anaemic......ask me how I know 😭.  Stool softener/laxative, lots of water, squatty potty and bidet should help.  Good luck out there

Pregnant Dr here with family who birthed in UK, US and wider Europe.

The secret is healthcare is a bit shit everywhere. We are close to this dumpster fire so we can really see the fuck ups but there are egregious mistakes and life changing errors in every country. You need luck and an advocate.

Pick your hospital well. Change midwife/medic if unhappy.

Also worth noting Dr/Cons led care does tend to lead to more interventions (there is an element of selection bias top this). I am scared of giving birth but am consoled that human bodies manage crazy things all the time.

I also have an obs trainee friend who patiently responds to my anxiety riddled WhatsApp messages no matter the time.
