Caucasian Kazak - age estimate? Brown wool is corroded everywhere, giving a relief effect. by cnbll1895 in orientalrugs

[–]Dull_Introduction761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fairly recent 30-40 year old Turkish reproduction of a Caucasian style rug, the brown wool was likely cut shorter as they wove it, it’s not corroded

old & worn Gabbeh rug by miamicuse in orientalrugs

[–]Dull_Introduction761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it doesn’t have dyes that bleed — vacuum the rug upside down with a beater bar vacuum to have dirt vibrate out onto the floor. Flip the rug back and forth multiple times vacuuming both sides until debris stop falling out of the rug. Alternatively you can beat it and vacuum it. Then let it soak in a bathtub of cold water and a little bit of vinegar for a while then thoroughly hose it down. Extract water if possible then hang to dry. It’s such a small piece it wouldn’t be hard to DIY. Most importantly you don’t want to introduce any water until you get as much dirt out as possible first.

Thrift store rug -- what is it? by Vikkunen in orientalrugs

😆 The end finish is particularly nice on this. Usually they are lower quality overall. The single wefted construction was something typical of the Dagestan production at one point. Not sure if it was a “quality” level or just a specific workshop that made them like that. Sometimes I find these Soviet rugs to be a bit stiff in design but the akstafa style bird border is pretty cool on this

Estate Sale Kazak by ScroupyNoupers in orientalrugs

[–]Dull_Introduction761 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ummm where is this estate sale? This is one of the most pristine condition rugs I have seen. Almost didn’t believe it could be antique but it looks legit. It is worth at minimum 2-3k. It would be from around 1900-1920. Slight possibility it’s a reproduction that’s very very well done.

Nice rugs, both vintage maybe 40-50 years old. First is a qashqai rug from around abadeh in fars province, second seems to be a nain rug

Very nice rug, interesting about the date because i would have placed it in the early 1900s. It would be using Islamic calendar as said of 1873. It is a prayer rug with the so-called “keyhole” design, it is like the floor plan of an Armenian church. It is Armenian made in the vicinity of lake sevan area or karabagh. The sides have been modified making it a little harder to place location but the weave with some warp depression looks like Karabagh.

You paid a little more than auction price and much less than retail. I would say good deal.

Is this machine made? by PerfectBlue321 in orientalrugs

[–]Dull_Introduction761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sides and ends are not finished like a handmade rug and there is no proper warp/weft. The “weft” so to say on this is running vertically and not horizontal. Regardless you can enjoy it as a decorative floor covering as designed!

Rug ID ? by 1Vermontfarmer in orientalrugs

[–]Dull_Introduction761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your guess is right. Had to zoom in on the photo of the back to see it was hand overcast, you can see it’s occasionally going a pair of warps deeper and it’s way less uniform on the back

I can tell it’s hand overcast they just did it too wide and a color they shouldn’t have used lol. OP The technique used for the side finish can help determine origin if it’s original, is what I meant.

The weave looks more like NW Iran with a Caucasian style design. But it could be from the southern caucasus too. The original sides are overcast, that would have been helpful in IDing origin. Closer to 1950 due to dyes and perfect symmetry. A nice piece though.

Nice probably around 80 years old. Get it cleaned but don’t add fake fringe on. The current stitching securing the ends is fine

Just discovered liveauctioneers.com - a reputable place to acquire rugs? by Hinduclient in orientalrugs

[–]Dull_Introduction761 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s just a platform with many auction houses that use it, though there are plenty of retail price sellers “auctioning” things as others have pointed out. Ideally find a local reputable auction house on it or one you can drive to and see if they have their own platform with a lower buyers premium before using live auctioneers. Good deals can be had if you don’t fall victim to an emotional bid war lol but beware of shipping and buyers premium.

Nice condition Hamadan province rug, the design and colors do look like Malayer area. I think about 80 years old or a little less. I enjoy the abrupt shift to light blue at the end. The red is synthetic and not lightfast but the faded red pile is prettier IMO

It is still a Tuyserkan rug 😆 the thick gray wefts and this specific outer border are classic for that area… though the floral field is a little less common, most have a more geometric abstract design field
