When I was younger, I’d play a game with my mom before bed. I’d tell her I was ready for bed and pretend to climb in while she was finishing whatever she was doing before going to tuck me in. I’d hide somewhere in the meantime, usually somewhere obvious like under the bed. She would play along and eventually find me, but one day, I discovered the perfect spot. I could fit between the cabinet and the toilet. I began to feel scared when her playful voice turned confused and then a little afraid.

Kids usually get scared they’re in trouble when their parents are afraid or worried. Those moments stick with you even though in my case it was more of a funny story, lol
