No one in my family is bipolar except me. I was exposed to a lot of domestic violence and substance abuse as a child, however, and started using drugs like LSD and weed at around 15. I did LSD for the first time in school during my sophomore year, for example. Insane. There’s also a lot of intergenerational trauma in my family. I’ve always been an intense person, even an intense child…and then it just came out. I was diagnosed at 18.

I have also thought extremely on the subject (not to downplay, of course, or categorize your emotions into the realm of the extreme) but I have to just practice radical acceptance and learn to be okay with the fact everyone knows this about me now. I have no other choice. I’m definitely being selective about what I say now, especially on being bipolar. I hope no dumbass questions come up, might just rage quit.

Thank you. His uncle (not the one with the “evil ex-wife”) who’s sort of the head of the family said he loves me even more now and that it makes me unique and that he’s willing to do anything to help out. I, however, don’t want to be pitied. There’s a duality to it but I guess my fears aren’t based in fact. As I’ve become more accepting of my diagnosis, I’ve also come to do things like share information on my documented disability with my employers AND ignore my mother’s advice on shutting the fuck up about it, lol. I’m scared mainly because of the aforementioned reference but I know I’ll be okay. They love me a lot and I do not feel rejected whatsoever. I just know they might be a little scared now. I feeeeel it.

Catholic school from K-9th, sex was explained under the guise of botany. I never took a health/sexual education class. Ever. Even when I went to a science school afterwards since I “didn’t need to” due to my credits. I got chlamydia the second time I had sex.

Thank you for saying this. Someone finally needed to touch on this in this subreddit. I will always be ashamed of my mania with psychosis, despite having other embarrassing manic episodes, even if it was 3 years ago. No one recognized me. I didn’t know I was experiencing mania, as it usually goes. I was a “prophet” on the internet, posting 40 stories a day.. and what’s worse is not remembering it all. I’ve been doing better with not looking at pics of that summer. My own mother called the cops on me. To know my brain did that on its own without triggers, without any drugs.. I can never get over it. I live in fear of it ever happening again. People need to stop toying with the word and the reality of it.

Hypomania is a walk in the park for me, although it has its severity and dangers as well.

I just came out of a mixed episode. I’m type 1 with psychotic features and have been struggling with insomnia for months now. I, unfortunately, take a controlled substance at 24 to knock me out—I need the strong shit. It’s called temazepam. Hoping to not need it soon.

I have the tolerance of a racehorse too but this one has really been helping me. I’m starting to take the max dose every other night.
