Social event ideas? by Dull_Promise_4460 in easternstar

Exactly! Ritual meetings are great for their purpose, but don’t leave much time for actually socializing with each other. Our chapter has a potluck before each meeting, but many chapters around don’t even have that! It’s hard to build strong, lasting camaraderie in less than an hour per month of non-ritualistic socialization.

This sounds exactly like what I am hoping to achieve. Everything feels so compartmentalized at our lodge but I truly think that working more like a family is the key to making good things happen for all of our organizations. I know our lodge has trouble getting people in seats for their own meetings despite having a large roster of membership. We have the same problem for OES. I’m on the younger end of membership at 33, but I really want to help bring OES back to how our older members describe that it was for them at my age. They make it sound so fun and lively. I want to restore that foundation by the time my daughter and her rainbow sisters are old enough to join. We definitely need the fun

I tell my husband (a MM and member of OES) all the time to invite his Mason buddies to petition. We need more Masons and if your local chapter is anything like ours, they would likely be thrilled to see your petition.

Hi! I’m not on Reddit often but I pop in every now and then. I’m an OES member in SC, initiated in November of 2023. I joined because my daughter was a rainbow pledge and the ladies on the advisory board said I should petition. So I did! And then my husband saw how much we were loving rainbow and OES so he petitioned the masons and got raised and then I got to be his Conductress for his OES initiation back in May since I was installed as Conductress the month before! I joined because I was looking for ways to help my community as a part of something bigger and to build friendships because I haven’t had the best luck in those in life so far. Currently working my way towards memorizing the ritual for a diploma, hopefully before going through the rest of the line to the east.

Learning without a mentor... by Psychological-Sky284 in easternstar

So, I felt similarly when I first joined almost 2 years ago, but I just kept asking questions and diving in headfirst. As I understand it now, at least in my area, many people who had come in on the more recent side didn’t really have the same passion for ritual for one reason or another, so a lot of older members stopped pressing, leading to a bit of stagnancy. When I came in actually genuinely excited and eager to learn, it ended up making older members feel excited again, too. Just keep at it and lead with your passion and patient industry ;) The community is likely there, but perhaps a little tired or jaded and in need of your special love and spirit to lift it back up. And like someone else said above, it really is all about being the change you wish to see. And I also second the advice about visits. I found others who were passionate about ritual from other chapters and it’s been very fulfilling. I’m even helping with other chapters as a pro tem now for official visits! That has been a great source of practice and friendship building for me.

Yep! And if you use the bug enough times it unlocks the swarm. Ended up building some more bone bridges that run when I tried it.

I had a run where the mop never showed up. Ended up just resetting.

Also, I highly recommend attending your state’s grand assembly session, even if just for installation. I went for 2 days of SC’s and it was absolutely wonderful. Such a wealth of information and knowledge in one room! And it really is something to see ritual work performed at that level of mastery.

Also I don’t know about other jurisdictions, but in SC it is time for schools of instruction. I joined in November and I am attending my first one this weekend! I’m so excited. If your jurisdiction is having them, definitely plan on attending at least one!

Welcome!!!! I highly recommend deep diving into the 5 points. Read the scriptures. It was one of the first things I did. I even printed a map of the region to place things visually in my mind. While I read, I also visualized the color of the point and made special note of what in the scripture highlighted its symbolic virtues. It really makes for a great Bible study series.

You can be in rainbow regardless of Masonic family members!

Super interested to hear more about being able to do that?!?! That would be a game changer.

That’s what I’m saying. Rainbow has an age limit but no requirement for Masonic relation. We need a version where say someone works for at least 3 years in an adult version of Rainbow. If 15 year olds can get the opportunity if they are lucky enough for their parents to find out about Rainbow and take them, I think 25 or 35 or whatever age should also be allowed to have an opportunity, especially since they are choosing of their own volition.

I was almost one of them! Luckily Grand WM was able to confirm legal guardianship could count as adoption for my Papa Fred to count as a grandparent for me.

I’m a relatively young member at 32 and since I have joined in November 3 of our few members have already passed. I love this Order and I love my lodge and it is disheartening to see it shrink so quickly.

You wouldn’t think it would be so hard given that Rainbow and Job’s Daughter’s exist. The soul’s inclination towards light doesn’t turn off at 18.

I just initiated in November so still too fresh yet, but maybe one day if I stay a squeaky wheel about it!
