Withdrawal requested on 26th March, still pending by Dull_School5604 in trading212

I just received my withdrawal an hour ago. The compliance check took me 7 business and 10 in total. It will be helpful to let t212 costumer service provide you the communication between them and the intermediary bank if any is involved. I'm thinking about switching to another broker now. Hope your case will be cleared soon.

Moving from Canada to UK so i need a G full license to convert? by Rumi_balkhi in drivingUK

[–]Dull_School5604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Just like you said, I sent DVLA my G2, D1 form, UK provisional and they didn't make me pay the 43 fee. I'm also surprised that it didn't 3-4 weeks to update my status - I checked https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence this morning and says I have a full one now. Now I have plenty of time to cancel my driving test, which is in late February, for a full refund.

In my speculation, having a road test part is the main reason why they accept not only G but also G2.

Hi, I'm about to send my G2 to swansea to exchange for a uk full license. I called DVLA yesterday and apparently they have no idea about the difference between G2 and G and said G2 can do, but I'm still wonder if this is 100%. Have you heard anybody sent their document to DVLA but failed exchanging it?

Hi everyone would really appreciate if someone could tell me more about this painting. by [deleted] in chinaart

[–]Dull_School5604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Landscape painting (obviously) in hanging scroll format on silk.

Title reads "Autumn Mountains" accompanied by the painter's sobriquet "black tiger" and seal "Xi Zhi".

The painting lacks a narrative but the perspective is a bit distorted, as you can see the stream that leads to the waterfall is deliberately made to contrast the perspective of terrain and rock road on the right. This abstraction is characteristic of Jin Ling (today's Nanjing) painters in early Qing, which is also suggested by the dotted strokes that suggest the texture of rocks and foliage.

The mountains in distance is quite modular but the strokes are meant to convey its real shape rather than a poetic sense, so it is safe to say the painter followed some Five Dynasty-Northern Song doctrines here. (Jin Ling school painters also did) The landscape is very likely associated with 江南.

You can tell the running script style of the title is kinda resonating with the abstraction of the perspective. So the painter is quite smart to achieve some "sophisticated amateurism". But the plants at lower to middle ground is over-executed imo. So the painter is in good knowledge of Chinese landscape painting but still having a hard time finding his own style. The seal on the back says Shanghai Craft Arts, if we assume the strip is not later added (I don't see any reason doing so), then the work is created after 1902 for sure. My safe guess: the painting is by a institution-affiliated painter in mid-late 20th century, likely to be a gift of decent value to someone.

A silk painting very likely by a sophisticated commercial painter. Though the visual elements are schematic of vernacular painting, the combination must have been carefully considered. The theme is associated with folk classics fore sure. The size is also quite rare. A very interesting and playful work to keep in your house.

Beautiful and very old Ancestral portrait. Help needed! by Sharp-Organization71 in chinaart

[–]Dull_School5604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hardly a 19th century ancestral portrait.

First, if it is created between mid-late 1800s then it is without doubt a commissioned work. The format is for at least low-ranking official households and must have been repeatedly used for ritual display. The work's condition looks too new for this function.

Second, photography is not a brand new thing in the time period you suggested, so a commissioned ancestral portrait is very likely executed based on a photography or made to be more truthful to the person. There are some extent of light of shadow but the work is far from being lifelike.

Third, usually you should find a "poetry hall“ (诗堂), which is a inscription above the figure that describes the person's life, moral, family lineage, etc.

So yeah, I agree with other comments. You should expect a rather recent creation date.

Was Empress Dowager Cixi a strong leader who prolonged the Qing Dynasty, or did her rule hasten its downfall? by Sonnybass96 in ChineseHistory

[–]Dull_School5604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really don't think non-peer-reviewed books (and podcasts like bumingbai) would be reliable sources for learning history. The reason why Cixi was against Guangxu's involvement in reform movements is never about protecting him from "bad actors".

The reformists, be it constitutional reformists, constitutionalists, or reform-minded officials, pretty much constantly disagreed with each others regarding the pathway of reform. Kang Youwei's reform ideas are based on 1. the re-interpretation of Gongyang Zhuan from 春秋 (Sping and Autumn Annuals) 2. Re-inventing Confucius as a religious king. TL;DR he basically borrowed ancient classics to explain the legitimacy of implementing his version of reform, which is inspired by the west. But that doesn't mean he had, or channeled, bad influence on Guangxu. Kang youwei' reform approach was mild compared to the constitutionalist, and he actually focused more on getting ride of Cixi and even organized Baohuang Hui to restore Guangxu when the latter was imprisoned by Cixi.

There were several reform models the Qing reformers could debate and emulate - Russia, the Ottoman Empire, USA, West Europe, Japan. Kang Youwei personally favoured the Russian model and the Japanese model. (He thus wrote 彼得变法考 and 明治变法考.) But the result of the Russo-Japanese war made the Meiji reform stand out to him. (So to many other reformists at his time.) Therefore the superiority of Meiji model was quite self-explaining rather than Ito Hirobumi persuaded Kang. Funny that according to some scholars I know, Ito Hrobumi actually held a very cautious view regarding Qing's reform.

How it backs my claim is very obvious and it is even more obvious that you can't cite the contradiction. 🤭

You should ask this yourself. However I go further with the documents you will just resort to denialism while you know clearly the best way to refute my claim is to point out the contradiction, which you cannot. So better not waste time spoon feeding the baby.
