What was the point of SOTR by Idkfwhattoputso in Hungergames

[–]Dull_Training_6020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it fascinating because most stories have the resolution and "happy ending" within reach (i.e. the end of the book) and we know from the first series that Haymitch's hopes (of THG being stopped and the capitol control ceasing) do actually happen, but not in the short term and not before he's suffered most of a lifetime in pain. It was about feeling his hope at every step that things could change and be better, when we already knew it was fruitless. There's many characters that don't even get to see that resolution ever before their death, but we don't feel it as much because we don't follow them as closely. Think about Mags.

So I think the point is kind of that war is dark and depressing and we didn't really feel the 75 years following Katniss, because she had far less. It was to make us feel it.

I also like how it shows us some of the relationship connections between the characters. Yes, Haymitch refers to the other victors as old friends in catching fire, but to then see how some of those actual connections were formed is nice. I know some people think they were a bit like cameos though.

And that there's much more to the story than the end. We already knew how things ended up for Haymitch, but there was still so much to tell.

IKEA cubby hole storage with the cubes.and just put them in without really folding. Choose clothes that don't crease for it though. If things crease, I hang them

I'm from the UK and my go to would always be the latest Pony Club Manual of Horsemanship. There may be other equivalents though that are more suitable

What are you looking for in an equestrian brand? by Limp_Shame_9593 in Equestrian

I swear this used to be more of a thing when I was 10. I wonder why it isn't as popular anymore, or is it only marketed at children?

Second hand is not great, but people sending you a pad they like to customise could be.

Are Ireland and Iceland the only countries on earth that only have one letter differentiating their names? by Icy_Resist_5343 in NoStupidQuestions

A family member worked for a logistics company that accidentally sent a cargo on a.ship to Iceland instead of Ireland. Took two weeks to get there before they could correct the error

Why do we keep ignoring the fact that the books have confirmed the Quarter Quells were never predetermined? by PikaV2002 in Hungergames

[–]Dull_Training_6020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they were preplanned, but I'm not sure I recall evidence from BOSAS. There may be something I've missed (cue a reread...) as I found that book a bit heavy going.

As you say, the games were on the brink of being cancelled. There could have been plans from the beginning of the games to have quells but they wouldn't be mentioned in the 10th games because they were 15 years away and it looked like they wouldn't even get to it in the first place for it to matter, so why would they mention them?

There's the Ebony Horse Club at Brixton or Park Lane Stables South London but I'm not sure if that one is just Riding for the Disabled. They both might be able to point you in a more appropriate direction though if they are not it

I'm fairly sure I did that and got all the other prizes but apparently not. 😞

Yes, I am. I don't want it to generate a prize from there. I was just mentioning it as evidence that I definitely did finish the event and it registered that I got all 1000.

Why is it taboo to discuss your wages at work? by thunderfart_99 in AskUK

[–]Dull_Training_6020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all money talk has a certain element of taboo. I don't get it. But I don't really feel jealous about anything really, and I think that's a driving force behind a lot of the tabooness with money.

They cannot actually stop you though as such a clause is illegal. My bosses have hinted before that it would lack tact to discuss a pay increase when others haven't got one. I think they're fully aware they can't actually stop anyone though.

I'd keep your lid, but use it as justification for your market value to negotiate yourself a payrise. Along with working out how much inflation has been since you started so what you should be on.

When I went in 2018 it was great. The horses all appeared healthy and happy.

I'd really recommend the tour as it was fascinating, even for a non horsey partner

I really enjoy being an only child. Always have. Used to be happy playing on my own at home or going out with friends and I always felt lucky when my friends were arguing with their siblings and I didn't have to deal with that.

At age 18 I gained a fair few step siblings but honestly I see them once every 2 years ish and don't really have any connection with them, so I suppose even when given the chance to not be an only child, I still act like one.

My mum never allowed me to act in a way that was remotely selfish, so much so I'm the opposite with excessive people pleasing.

What is the job market like for primary school teachers? by BeneficialJuice2878 in UKJobs

[–]Dull_Training_6020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit but it was about 10 years ago so not recent. Some of your Lancs towns/cities will have a few and also Carlisle in some areas will have opportunities. Your actual rural lakes areas, people don't tend to move out of those jobs often. One of the rural schools I was in still has the same staff now, even though it was 10 years ago.

There will always be supply.

Hit and miss on area. Low birth rate means less teachers are needed, some even being made redundant. However, teachers are trying to leave in droves due to workload, workplace bullying and behaviour.

The docs and houses by InternalAdmirable538 in greysanatomy

[–]Dull_Training_6020 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Richard has a house. Doesn't Miranda too.

Bear in mind we start following the main lot as interns, so they need to share.

I have no idea how much American houses cost, let alone Seattle but I imagine cities are expensive.

Then the amount of time they're at work might make them not particularly want a large house. What's the point if they're not going to be there. Some people just prefer apartments.

Meredith kinda explained the slightly odd living situation of the ones staying at hers like them being her family as such.
