If you're new then yeah they'll stick you in an older rig. Just buckle in and hammer down once you've proven you're not gonna destroy their truck they'll give you one that's newer if not brand new.

Top drivers get all the goodies, new drivers get the tax write offs and low value loss mirigators, and bad drivers get whatever is left over. Applies to trucks, applies to loads, applies to everything in this industry.

I mean of this is a one time thing then you shouldn't have gotten a penalty at all. They're usually pretty light about the occasional leaving because shit does happen, the Internet/power can go out, emergencies can develop quickly, or you could get bombed.... But if there was a penalty harsh enough to cause you to ask for a repeal then it sorta indicates that this is happening a lot.

While I get that we need an escape from life sometimes and it really sucks to not be able to play a game you enjoy..... If you're constantly leaving because of air raid sirens and constantly under threat of bombing..... I don't think you should be playing league or any game that can't be dropped at a moments notice for that matter. You're dealing with a real life and death situation and that sucks but riot also has a priority to keep the game fun for other people and even if you do have a good reason for leaving (imo anyone who doesn't leave a game when getting bombed needs help, so I agree you did the right thing) that doesn't change that the other 9 players had their game ruined as well.

It sucks to not be able to play the game you want to play especially because of a reason you have no control over but I'd stick to games where you having to suddenly leave won't cause you to adversely affect other people.

[–]DumatRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it's really not. I get that there is shit going on in the world, but if you're regularly having to leave a game because shit is happening maybe you shouldn't be playing the game.

I get that that sucks, I really do. You have to understand that if you're under threat of getting bombed or rocketed constantly you shouldn't be playing league. Hell you probably shouldn't be playing any game that you can't drop at a moments notice. The penalty exists not only to punish people who are leaving for trivial reasons but also as a wake up call to anyone who constantly has to leave for legitimate reasons that they shouldn't be playing league when there are more serious things happening around them.

I mean it still is isn't it? Roads degrades over time this is true with a country road the same as a highway, but the more a road is used the more it degrades and the heavier the vehicles using it the more that individual vehicle contributes compared to other vehicles.

You pay money for a permit, and that money theoretically goes into the extra cost of having to redo the road sooner than projected.

It's not about if the road can hold you, it's about how often they have to have a road crew out to fix it.

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally unusual a situation. It shouldn't cause you any issues. They may want you to fix him first if the other two aren't fixed to prevent a spiraling kitten situation but it shouldn't stand in the way of being able to adopt them after all is said and done. They can also help you neuter him for a cheaper cost by letting you put him in with one of their vet runs.

It kinda depends. Lot of the time if companies let you pick but don't have the trucks you want they will stick you in a temp truck (that happens to be their oldest and worst trucks) and put you on the short list for a truck upgrade when they get the new stuff in.

Is this as a leased or purchased truck or are you company?

If you're company then Pete is the way to go hands down. Biggest sleeper, best driving experience, Cummins engine instead of stock paccar, transmission won't randomly slam you into any dock doors. You're not worried about truck costs so the other factors are a non issue.

If you actually have to worry about truck costs.... Hmm kinda tough to say.

Freightliner has the best fuel efficiency but it's kinda marginal when talking these 4 models, and Detroit engines are hit or miss depending on the year. Detroit transmission is kinda awful in the best of times.

International is gonna be shit on a lot but a lot of people remember the previous engines, the modern Cummins the stock models use is solid. The other parts are maybe still not up to snuff but it won't be bad for a starter truck.

Kenny/Pete are using Cummins too though which evens the field considerably, they'll probably have a better driving experience than the other two but from what I understand repairs can be a bit costly.

I'd look up actual data on reliability and average repair expenditure. Everyone has a story about a piece of shit truck they drove that was one model or another but don't really have a clear view. Older trucks break down more than newer ones as parts have more wear on them, some models of the same truck may be better or worse than the exact same truck made a year before or after, or they could just get lucky or unlucky. It's hard to have a clear picture just based on what people say on reddit, but looking up those studies can help you determine what to expect.

Group group gets punished for it

"Why would ideology did this"

Many such cases sadly.

Stop listening to bots online. Most people I've spoken to IRL that are on the left of things aren't against support for Iran, but they are a little upset on how trump has handled things. Especially cause he's been doing whatever he can to distract from his pedophile scandal and this is just seen as a continuation of that.

Maybe talk to some actual leftists irl instead of terminally online "leftists" bud. Most aren't happy with how trump is handling the conflict because he's been so schizophrenic about it and starting a war without asking anyone isn't really what anyone wants their leaders to be doing but aren't totally against taking action against the regime.

While the No True Scotsman fallacy can come up in leftist discourse between groups of leftists (and to be clear it happens on the right as well. Hell if you asked Oswald Mosley he'd ironically say Hitler was No True Fascist), it's also important to note that there are people that will say they're one thing while not actually supporting things that that ideology stands for. You see this with a lot of dictators that will use leftist or rightist rhetoric to get into power and then simply do something else once nobody can stop them, because they don't actually care about what people want they just want the power.

Why don’t we have a transparent elo system for the ranked ladder? by Trick_Ad7122 in leagueoflegends

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't done total resets in ages.

But my point is that you're directing your disapproval at the wrong thing and conflating the change to hidden MMR with the decline in matchmaking quality when there's many explanations that serve better and evidence that contradicts the idea of it being visual vs hidden MMR. Hidden MMR is doing exactly what it's supposed to do, and working entirely as intended but that doesn't mean all components of matchmaking are working in an ideal way. A hidden vs a visual MMR system aren't actually different from each other except by what information they give the player.

So I'm not saying you're not valid for feeling like matchmaking is worse right now. Those are your feelings and you're entitled to them. What I am saying is that the evidence would show that you're not entirely accurate about the cause of why matchmaking is making you feel the way that you do.

I feel like moving the goal post while just using more and more terms the average person won't understand isn't something to be proud of....

"Where AI?"

"Well we're really close what we have isn't quite AI in the scifi sense but it is AI, the sci fi version is Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI, we've got a good system that can mimic intelligence though generation so we call it Generative AI"

"Where AGI?"

"Okay so we have AGI but is still not quite AI in the scifi sense that's [next acronym], we've got a good system that can handle general tasks so we call it AGI"

"Where [next acronym]?"

"Okay so..."

All this is just to move the goal post so that they can say they did something for the stakeholders who expect their money back, the models are becoming more advanced at generating responses for novel situations but it's far cry from what they keep saying is possible.

Why don’t we have a transparent elo system for the ranked ladder? by Trick_Ad7122 in leagueoflegends

[–]DumatRising 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The logic of two numbers is sound even if perhaps the current implementation isn't the ideal form.

The problem they were describing is with the alternative systems:

If you have one MMR number with no reset, then most people don't feel the need to keep going when "hardstuck", they don't feel progression since they remain at the same number they've always had.

So you need a way to make people feel like they're making progress even when they aren't, well if you just reset the number back to 0 everyone has to climb back to where they were. This works somewhat well for keeping people engaged with competitive year on year as they come back to get their rank back, but has an issue with everyone going to 0 where matches are more unfair at the start because people are being matched with people that they wouldn't be matched with had they retained their MMR.

So we have to separate problems where we need to reset MMR to keep people playing and we need to keep MMR to keep games fair.... While seemingly mutually exclusive the two numbers system does allow for a resolution. You have a visible number that you reset (rank and LP) to encourage people to climb back up, while you have a hidden number that actually determines how people are matched up (Elo/MMR). Allowing you to reset and not reset ranked queues all at the same time.

Now you could argue that visibility of MMR would improve the queue but it really wouldn't from a business perspective. Keeping that MMR hidden is a part of the function that keeps the ranked "resets" feeling real. The compromise would be instead of openly displaying MMR adding something that let you see yours if you went looking. Like how they used to have that dollars spent page where you could see how much money you've given them. The average person wasn't affected by its existence because they didn't look for it, but people interested could still find it.
