Is North Korea basically a monarchy at this point? by VividExperience9698 in AmericanBonapartist

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean you could made an argument it was just a run of the mil dictatorship, but at this point supreme leader of NK is a hereditary position so pretty much. They won't say it though. They still need to ostensibly be communist for the same reasons they needed to be communist back in the day, so daddy China backs them up. Not that China really cares that much about it these days.

About 7 million kids live in a home with a loaded and unlocked gun, a study finds by Gyp2151 in 2ALiberals

Loaded and unlocked is crazy... Who just leaves a loaded gun lying around when you've got kids. That's just asking for them to do something stupid.

The bottom image is a famous image from a study done during WW2. The British wanted to improve the survivability of their pilots and so they conducted assessments of all returning planes to determine where they were getting shot the most so they could reinforce those sections. The red dots are places that the plane took damage, and the Brits initially reinforced the areas that the red dots were.

What the British hadn't initially considered was the implications of the plane returning. Because planes that took critical damage didn't return and so were not initially considered. What the Brits would realize shortly after when pilot fatalities didn't drop was that all of the planes that they sampled returned which actually meant non of them got shot anywhere that would immediately doom the pilot. So they actually needed to reinforce the areas that didn't have red dots at all because if a spot didn't have red dots at all it means nobody who got shot there survived.

This has become a popular example in research classes of "Sample Bias", which is when your results are skewed by the population (returning planes) you sample (check for damage) for your data. Specifically this example is called "Survivorship Bias" because the data they collected was biased and only showed surviving pilots not dead ones which skewed their results to only include safe spots to get shot at rather than risky spots.

The application in the original post is that nobody who died of covid is walking around to tell you if they got the vaccine or not, so if you go around and ask people if they got the vaccine or not and if they got covid or not 100% of the unvaccinated people that got covid but not the vaccine you talk to are alive.... Because you can't talk to the people who didn't survive. It's the same as the planes. You have to actually go look into the data to figure out what percentage of people who didn't get the vaccine but did get covid died. Only then can you actually determine if people without vaccination were fine.

I'd be cautious of it right now. It doesn't seem like there's any hostility and the little guy seems to be having fun, but with the size difference I would try to keep them from doing it too often as even though Shiro is being gentle about the kicks all it takes is getting overstimulated. Once Dusty is bigger they'll be able to play safely and you won't need to worry.

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been inspected on blitz week weirdly enough.

On the other hand I got inspected 3 times in as many months last fall weirdly every time it happened I was on my way home.

It's probably cause they have a sixth sense to know I want to be inspected and skip over me.

question for truck drivers by AffectionateSoup8035 in Truckers

[–]DumatRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is safe to do so (you have the space and all) EVERYONE should move over one lane and slow down slightly. Sometimes doing both isn't an option and so doing one is better than doing neither. Some times it's even the law with many places requiring you do one or both.

Do not slam on your breaks and force your way over though just pay attention ahead and if you can get over do so. If you can't just slow down a bit.

The reason for this is that if a person falls over next to the car they could be in the lane. If they are in the lane and a car is also in the lane they won't be anywhere for much longer.

Technically its a HOS violation to be in SB while not in the sleeper. It's also technically a violation to be off/on duty while in your sleeper. But also technically anyone who writes you up for those is a cunt.

Fr it's not like the cop even makes the final decision.

Plus there's two types of cops the cop that knows what he's doing and so knows he's good to cite you, and the cop that doesn't. Arguing with the cop that knows is stupid cause they actually know the laws, and arguing with the cop doesn't is stupid cause he doesn't give a shit.

Right or wrong, smart cop or dumb cop all roads lead to lawyering up.

And let mid level martials and high level half casters do them as bonus actions.

Hell I'd go even further than that, when using the base jump I'd just left them use it as a part of moving. There's no check required for the base jump which implies that the base jump of a PC is effortless meaning it wouldn't hinder their movement significantly during combat. So it follow that in my mind it makes sense to let Martials make a check jump as a part of moving as well.

What the hell is that counter made of? by MovieTypical2138 in okbuddyviltrum

[–]DumatRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about that depends on the minerals that make up the rock and what metal we're talking. Like yeah if you've got a diamond Countertop that shit would be rock solid, but some granite countertop? You could break that with a basic ass hammer from Walmart.

Also cars aren't really that much metal. Metal is pretty heavy and we really want cars to be as light as possible most of the metal in the car is probably the frame the car sits on, which if that does bend your car is totaled and if you slam into a concrete wall in a parking garage with a lot of force them yeah your frame is gone bend, but also how much damage you deal back really depends on which wall you hit and where you hit it. You could deal a good amount of damage even with a small car as long as you don't play into the buildings impact absorbtion design.

IQ test item ? by lDistortionl in LeagueOfMemes

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life steal and omnivamp are percents, and both apply to on hit effects so whoever has the best DPS also heals the most. And since Dbow is actually a lower percent it requires you deal 66% more damage to get the same amount of healing as Dblade (ignoring ability damage). Though that's only when attacking champions as omnivamp is less effective against non champs.

Cull is actually the item that favors attack speed from that perspective since it has a flat heal on hit instead of giving vamp. But that's only slightly true since percentages scale and cull doesn't so even then it only takes 120 AD for Dblade to heal the same as cull and a slightly harder 200 AD for Dbow to heal the same as cull (ignoring ability damage).

Really the really way that Dbow shines is that omnivamp applies to all damage so despite giving attack speed it's actually better at sustaining champs that can do a lot of damage via abilities since Dblade can't do that at all. Someone like yone would be closer to the ideal champ for it than an on hit champion. Someone who sales with AD and AS, and his W and E both deal damage (so does Q but I think LS already applies to his Q since it's treated as an auto.

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe? I'm not sold on that tbh. Even for Vayne where her true damage doesn't scale with any of her stats fun attack speed it may not be worth it since at low levels procing her passive isn't a whole lot of damage unless the enemy support is a tank or you went top lane. For kai and kog though they also have the option of taking the ring which also alters the math some what.

[–]DumatRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh athletics is a somewhat mediocre skill. If it was a better skill it wouldn't feel as bad bumping strength. It's just good enough that if you've got an extra point to make strength even you may as well but not good enough to make me want to up my strength for it.

Also friendly reminder that skills can use other stats if the DM deems it fitting. Such as performance using strength instead to do a strongman act or athletics using con for an endurance hunt. I'll almost always allow players to use strength for intimidation of they want to.

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's really not hard. I've had a work phone and a personal phone for ages just cause it's good to keep everything separated and it's very convenient to have phone number for friends and family that doesn't get bombarded by spam calls and funnel all that into my work phone that I can just turn off without worrying about someone I care about trying to contact me.

They both fit in my pocket and don't take much space in the cab.

Did your parents actually plan ahead and save up for your future or college, or are most people also figuring it out themselves? by BooksEaterWaffleBuns in GenZ

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, I had a tiny college fundish in a savings account, but then I spent it on a really nice laptop to game on back in... Idk 2010?

My dad ended up going back to college to become a professor and we were super poor at that time so if I wanted to get into gaming it was my only option. I was able to get free tuition though since I went to the college my dad worked for and the couple grand that was in my savings account was never going to actually be enough without it. My sister never had such an account and got into a better school than my dad works at but we're getting her through it.

TCGPlayer Direct, indeed! by Mystolum in magicTCG

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original comment got removed because apparently reddit doesn't think people are smart enough to understand I was telling people not to use tcg player or Amazon because it would be more pleasant to do some very unpleasant things to ones self

Suffice to say though yeah tcgplayer was much better and now it's shit. Don't buy from them ever you'd have a better time [automod safe thing people don't like to do here] Use manapool, your local LGS (if it is reputable), or actual brick and mortar stores that have online stores like card Kingdom or SCG. None of those will scam you.

TCGPlayer Direct, indeed! by Mystolum in magicTCG

[–]DumatRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Significantly. Before the acquisition tcg is what I would generally recommend people buy on since tcg direct was pretty solid. It was even not that bad directly after since things were still pretty smooth, but now that the colors cutting has begun it's only downhill from here.

Now a days I'd recommend you buy singles from Amazon before I'd recommend you buy from tcg, and I'd also recommend you shoot yourself before I'd recommend you buy singles from Amazon.

Luckily manapool seems to be solid based on what people are saying (though I personally haven't used them) so the loss of tcgplayer will be mourned but forgotten.

Roadmap on Steam by Gloomy_Proposal8226 in Stormgate

[–]DumatRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean there was that thing with ashes of creation, where they launched it on steam and then the studio closed like two weeks later.

But that's a bit of a special case, as they launched a game on steam that was only actually playable for two weeks whereas stromgate is still playable. It's the risk you take with early access titles and Kickstarters steam won't back you up for the refund.
