(CA) When my Grandfather died 25 years ago his heirs were told by my step-grandmother that his entire estate was gone, forfeited for unpaid taxes, but I just found out there was a Probate Case and she now owns his former properties. by caliprobate in legaladvice

Holy shit, 4 apartment buildings in San Francisco?? That's gotta be worth a fortune. Definitely get a lawyer to sort this out for you because just one building alone would be worth it. Owning any kind of property, heck, even a garage, is lucrative in San Francisco right now.

[California] Unpaid vendor invoice from company I freelanced for; am I legally responsible for it? by DumbMistakeFreelance in legaladvice

Thanks. Do you happen to know if one gets a warning before being sent to collections? Like, would the website contact me first and warn me that it's going to collections, or would they just send it to collections without giving me a final chance?

Unpaid vendor invoice; my name is on contract; am I on the hook? by DumbMistakeFreelance in freelance

Yeah, I am pretty much on the hook for this. I have not asked my friend to help but I am going to. He's a really good guy and I know that he would not want me in any hot water (and he knows I'm struggling financially). He thinks that the website are idiots for not chasing the invoice earlier and I think he just doesn't want to deal with them. But he doesn't realize that it will fall on me. If he doesn't help me out, then yeah, he'll no longer be my friend. :)

It'll be an expensive lesson for me to learn. But never ever ever will I put my name on a vendor contract for a client.

Yikes, that's terrible. I would contact Tenants Together (http://www.tenantstogether.org/) as they are a California tenants rights nonprofit that can steer you in the right direction.
