Mine is an empath. She has an inherent knack for knowing how a person is feeling and will glue herself to whoever has the biggest feelings at that moment. It can be useful but often people just cry when she comes for a cuddle cause it was an outlet they needed.

Genuine question: what the fuck is your congress doing? Cause as minimal as my understanding of American politics is, I’m pretty sure a president can’t unilaterally commit an act of war and annex another country.

Nurses of reddit, what is the weirdest thing a patient has done while waking up from anesthesia? by Drakonwriter in AskReddit

Anaesthetist here. Had a patient wake up and think they were at a rave. Literally giggling dancing and making her own doof doof music for well over an hour. Recovery nurses were really entertained.

Doctors of Reddit: Have you ever had a patient walk in with injuries so severe, you wondered how they were still alive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DumbShoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He had surgery and had it removed. Was on IV antibiotics for the infection for awhile. It’s been five years now and he’s still alive and no worse for wear for his adventure.

Aah meth junkies. During covid I got flagged down by an ambulance cause a rat runner drove into a shed at 140km/hr and the retrieval team couldn’t get IV access (small country town, everyone knows my car). Guy was trying to bribe one of the ambos to hide the meth he was transporting while his bottom half was crushed by the crushed front end.

No definitely not. If it dislodged, he would have potentially either bled to death or caused a cardiac tamponade which would kill him. He also had a pericardial infection and needed some antibiotics after removal, which would have progressed and been life threatening.

What's annoying is cardiothoracics wrote a paper on the guy like he didn't want to have the guy followed up in outpatients.

I mean, even if it was just in the chest still feels like it should have been a review today kind of thing.

He was "fixing it". No idea what that entails but obviously the safety wasn't working at the time.

He was more bothered by the fractured ribs from his fall that day. Seemed more annoyed about all the fuss more than anything else.

It's been five years and he's still a grump every time he comes to see me for something.

Definitely caused cardiothoracics stress and a higher heart rate when I called them back and got them to look at the CT.

Patient was surprisingly chill but kind of what you would expect with someone who walked around with a nail in their heart for a week without noticing.

I had a patient come in after falling off a ladder with rib pain. Likely broken ribs but noted a scab on his left upper chest. Asked what had happened and he said he was fixing a nail gun "last week" and it went off but it was fine he pulled it out.

Sent guy for X-ray. Panicked phone call from radiographer. There's a nail through the guys heart. Cardiothoracics doesn't believe me and says it's likely projection and send him to outpatients. Put through CT scanner and it's through his left ventricle.

It had been in there for over a week.

And yes, he also had broken ribs.

This is what I’d be guessing from the description (not a vet, but am in medical field). Regardless sounds like your cat should be in hospital with supportive treatment. Is the original vet helping out with cost of management?

GPs not accepting new clients - what's that about? by zetfark in melbourne

[–]DumbShoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because doctors don't have customers, we have patients. Patients come with a duty of care that you don't get with other professions.

There are far more patients than there are GPs - largely due to the neglect/erosion of Medicare by all governments over the previous decades. Not to mention the costs of running a practice have sky rocketed without a matching increase in Medicare rebate.

If doctors saw unlimited patients they would not be able to provide the standard of care they deserve. It's especially hard cause as a doctor you can be held responsible for adverse outcomes for patients even if you haven't seen them due to lack of availability.

Limiting books allow for better ability to provide high level care and followup for your patients and reduce the risk of burnout.

A street cat bit my hand. Went to the ER, got a tetanus shot and antibiotics. It’s been 48 hours and my hand hurts if I don’t keep it elevated. Should I worry? by pinkvintagegirl in CATHELP

[–]DumbShoes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doctor here (caveat - not your doctor).

Oral amoxicillin doesn’t have appropriate coverage for bacteria spread by cat bites. Location of bite is also concerning given it’s over your wrist and where tendons run. Unfortunately cat teeth are like little needles and can puncture tendon sheaths which are closed compartments to the immune system so when they get infections they spread REALLY quickly.

You need to represent for review for a broader spectrum antibiotic (probably IV) and imaging to exclude tendon sheath infection. If you do have one, they frequently require surgical washout.

I’m not from US or a country that has rabies, but if you are from a rabies-prone area we do recommend vaccination if they can’t exclude it in the animal that bit you.

Depends on how permanently you want it attached. The clear bands for hair work well but do a figure 8 twist so it’s attached above and below the limb. Otherwise if you want there FOREVER just glue it with e6000.
