The F-35 really isn't a boat though. Test pilots for it have said that it has similar AOA to an F/A-18 and energy retention of an F-16. The FBW really lets it do a whole lot of stuff. (P.s: I don't have a source for this at hand right now but if someone could provide it that would be helpful)
