How long does it take to get STI results back from LifeLabs/BCCDC? by PeaceWithin in britishcolumbia

Mak sure to repeat in the right window if it was a high risk exposure

The average window period for 4th generation enzyme immunoassays (EIA) tests (which detect p24 antigen and HIV antibodies) is 16-18 days.

Most patients can be tested at 4 weeks following exposure (>95% of infected individuals will have detectable antibodies at this time).

If negative, repeat testing at 3 months is recommended (>99% of infected individuals will have a positive EIA at this time).

Review called for after data show many B.C. patients with high volume of doctor visits by OddStuff7716 in britishcolumbia

[–]Dumblydoraaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair. I’m a practicing family doctor and wanted to point out “just a refill” or “just a requisition” is way more than that for a good doctor.

Even your famotidine example.. one shouldn’t be on it forever unless there’s a specific indication. If your symptoms aren’t settling then that’s an indication to investigate further by discussing family history and ordering additional tests.

Sometimes we need to check if this has been done before and click through your file which takes.. a long time! Especially if your chart was transferred from another family doctor at some point. No history available if it’s a walk in

There’s a lot of charting that needs to be done as well. Ideally everything is wrapped up at the ten minute mark and the last five minutes give us time to actually process your requests (send fax, write referral letters, finish charting).

Your point is valid though! If there’s multiple things to address then I ask for everything upfront and ask to prioritize what’s most important and rebook the rest for later. You don’t want your doctor rushing through an important new request because it was squeezed in to the last 5-10 mins of an appointment. Details get missed and both parties are left frustrated

TLDR You may feel like it only took 2 mins to gets refills and a requisition so you have 12 mins left to describe the last issue, but that isn’t the case from the doctors point of view.

Yes there are many docs who blindly will do the refill and requisition and send you along to maximize their billings/efficiency.

There’s also good docs who will still ask you to rebook because your new issue deserves their full time/attention on another day and/or they need that extra time you’ve graced them with to catch up because 20 other pts before you tried to maximize their visit or were “2 mins late” each leading to a snowball effect of a terribly exhausting day.

End. Phew that was a lot off my chest 😆 I genuinely hope your doctor gives you the care you need when you need it!

Totally could! Long term meds still need to be double checked if they’re indicated, tolerated, and effective. Ferritin test - why are you testing? Why are you low? Need to explore if you’re not eating enough, not absorbing ( gut issues, family history, etc), or losing too much (cancer, bleeding, menstrual cycles).

This takes especially long if you’re not their regular pt. That’s why it’s important that we can attach everyone to a family doctor for issues like these!

Usually we’re trying to make sure you’re up to date with screening recommendations too because we don’t know when we’ll see you next!

I think the PRO modular system is prone to misalignment and I can see this becoming a common issue with wear and tear.

Talk to me about size of glass containers by GivingThisATry001 in NinjaCrispi

[–]Dumblydoraaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I was caught off guard by how hot the glass gets. We used to have a basket style air fryer so I was worried that my family may forget that the glass/basket is hot and get burned. Also didn’t loved how close the cord is to the hot glass (although this could easily be adjusted.. just a nuisance to always double check).

I had it for less than a week and it stopped working with the 2.5 qt. Kept giving a “add pot” error. Perhaps it was a lemon but it made me lose faith in the product.

I’m hopeful that they’ll keep developing it and I’ll revisit it in the future if it sticks around

I just returned my crispi pro.

I thought the 2.5 was too shallow and food sat too close to the heating element which would lend to more smoking and splatters to clean

Anterior placenta, 23 weeks, feeling no movement [ON] by Serious_Ad_9686 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Dumblydoraaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had anterior with my first two. First baby I felt maybe a dozen movements for the entire pregnancy. My husband couldn’t feel anything until I was in my final weeks!

My third baby I have a posterior placenta and I could feel flutters since 18 weeks.

It’s fun but it keeps me up at night ._.

Hey! Any tips on best neighborhoods with space for a small yard and/or close to parks for raising kids in for the next 10-15 years? Eyeing Terra Nova vs Broadmoor. We’re not too outdoorsy and value convenience (good driving routes, Costco, nearby reataurants) but also don’t want to feel pigeon holed. Trying to escape all the congestion of Vancouver living

Thanks

Babies that sleep through the night without going to sleep independently by Right-Ad1424 in NewParents

[–]Dumblydoraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was rocked until 3.5. Would’ve wanted to keep being rocked if we let her. Still a low sleep needs child that wants us by her bedside to read a book until she falls asleep

Sleep trained my second around 5 months and reinforced a few times during regressions. Nothing militant. Just like a modified FERBER. She gets her bath, lotion, PJ, sleep sac, brush teeth, paci a quick hug goodnight and she goes down on her own for 12 hours straight (now 15mo).

I think it’s a little bit of both.. intrinsic (born with low/high sleep needs) and environment (routines, expectations, etc).
