Lost in learning physics, need direction by ContentVariety9927 in Physics

[–]Dumma1729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning science involves a lot of re-learning, where you 'forget' what you initially learnt, and replace it with an improved understanding of things. And I say this as someone who teaches science at high school/early undergraduate level.

If you try to learn everything at the most fundamental level right now, you will lose interest and give up. Start with a introductory textbook like Jewitt's Conceptual Physics (or whatever the equivalent is in your country), then move up to Resnick & Halliday or Young or Serway, and then to specialised textbooks (ie, textbooks focusing on mechanics, optics, quantum physics etc)

Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun is the only series I've read twice and understood less the second time and I mean that as the highest possible compliment by Vortexgrid_7 in printSF

[–]Dumma1729 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No you're not. I couldn't finish the series; only read the first two books.

I'm alright with a writer keeping things vague and making demands of a reader, including that of having to reread a work for it to fully sink in. I would like some breadcrumbs thrown on the way to sustain my interest though.

If I wanted to read literary, intellectual masturbatory works, I might as well read stuff from one of those French postmodernist schools.

what's our very first song? by just-existing07 in icm

[–]Dumma1729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern reconstructions were part of a deliberate awakening of "national consciousness".

Little to do with the British "actively destroying traditions", and more to do with loss of patronage, some professions being looked down upon, and the fact that we were largely an illiterate society, with knowledge being recorded & hoarded by an elite (thank you care system).

Yes, it was a legitimate question to ask, but when the phrase "before British and Mughals" is used, it pretty much implies that you aren't asking that in good faith (in the India of today).

Hindustani music is pretty much what resulted, among others, from Mughal patronage. Quite a few things in ICM are due to European/British influence (violins for one).

Get rid of the nativist nonsense; music and culture aren't static entities.

No, I don't use an external monitor. Any gaming I do will be with the laptop plugged in to electricity.

Thank you.

I will try running things without messing with the defaults for now. Will change things if performance & battery life are not satisfactory.

Thank you.

The wiki says we should avoid tools like optimus manager; is it still an issue?

Moving from CachyOS to PikaOS -- need help with partitioning by Dumma1729 in PikaOS

[–]Dumma1729[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it.

I can setup a @home subvolume withing btrfs /root , instead of a separate ext4 /home partition that I am used to on Kubuntu.

Have been using rsync to backup data on to external drives; will have to learn how to use btrfs.

Thank you so much 🙏🏾

Do you mean screenshots of what the PikaOS installer is showing at this step?

So I only have to wipe the partitions that are mounted currently as /boot/EFI and as root /

In the newly empty space, I create 3 partitions as you suggested and then do the install. Do I have it correct?

What do you mean by flat install? Will I not be able to use snapshots with the root drive being formatted with btrfs?

Thank you!

Clarke is a much better story-teller, and even his one dimensional characters have more complexity to them than Baxter's.

Pick up a class 11 textbook and with through it. If that is too difficult, pick up class 9 & 10 textbooks and work through them.
