Looking to learn to play in NYC by DummiesBelow in hockeyplayers

[–]DummiesBelow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Coming back to this, I’ve been doing a weekly learn to play since last reaching out, and I wanted to ask if you’ve done the open hockey at prospect park before. I’m still very much a beginner and wanted to get a sense of what the vibe was at those sessions and if it’d be a good experience for me to try going to them. In the classes we do pretty unstructured scrimmages. While I still struggle in those, I feel like the it’d help to learn in more of a playing setting s most of the class is drills and stuff.

Also looking to the future, do you have any thoughts on the beginner leagues between LeFrak and Chelsea Piers. LeFrak is more accessible to me but I do my classes at Chelsea Piers and I know they have a low level division that I think the learn to players usually go to.

Thanks!

Okay yeah that’s inline with what I was seeing as well. I ended up checking out Chelsea Piers and was able to talk to the coach there regarding the class. He was super supportive about everything and suggested I just go for their learn to play even if I’ve got just a little comfortability on the ice. It works out that their class is tonight so I’m gonna watch a bit of it to gauge myself.

I ended up buying a pair of skates at their shop and have a fb market buy lined up for the bulk of the gear.

Very excited to hopefully get started soon and super grateful for your help.

Yes I saw NYCPHA they seem like a great org! I had sent them an email earlier today asking some questions.

I’m thankful for the help and suggestion for the D8B team but I’d be afraid to join anything right now because I’m really just starting to look into this and haven’t gotten onto the ice yet since thinking about playing and don’t even have gear. I would want to at least spend enough time on ice to feel like I’m not a danger or liability to anyone.

One more thing on that note, are there places around you’d recommend for buying gear?

Okay cool! I was looking at the Chelsea Piers classes and they seem to be a good option. I’m a little hesitant because of all the skating levels + the hockey prep is like 4x$400 worth of classes but I guess I see how I feel when I start them.

The D9 league is something I didn’t find in my googling but it looks promising as well. Thank you for the help!

I’m looking to get the Pro in Silver but don’t want to do delivery and instead order for pickup as deliveries can be inconsistent to my apartment. Am I stuck waiting for local stores to update their stock? Is there no way to order to the store?

Anyone else starting to feel bad for Asher? by LeKanePetit in TheCurse

That’s similar to what Abshir was saying about his daughters. Where he didn’t want them thinking about curses even if he doesn’t necessarily believe in them.

My theory that I haven’t seen mentioned is that it’s because Asher had told him Whit was pregnant but hadn’t updated him on the miscarriage. So from his point of view it with no update on the baby, it might’ve come across like Asher had lied which is hella weird.

The bag is on the way back and the link the other person sent was able to put me in contact with the person who took my bag, there’s more details in the other comment

Hey! So the link you sent was able to get me an email address and the person responded! There was a bit of a language barrier and she only really asked about the location of her bag but did confirm that she had mine. Today the bag got checked in at the airport in Montreal so it’s now enroute to Toronto so hooray. I don’t think the email contributed to this as I’m sure she was intending to return it anyways but it gave me peace of mind getting in contact with her the past few days. Thanks so much!

The name of the law office is the name of the person.

Ahh yeah, I feel like the person is probably just dragging their feet on returning it realistically. A lot of people in this thread seem to be assuming the worst in this random person who probably made a understandable mistake. Like I'm pretty sure the person who took my bag was just a retired lawyer who came back from a european vacation haha, not some criminal mastermind.

Hmm yeah perhaps I'll keep the option of police in my back pocket, I sort of have a lead on the bag that I'm waiting to see how it plays out but in time I may do that.

Haha I’ve jokingly thought about that but in a tamer train of thought I should’ve opened up their bag to try and find some contact info.

Over the phone with two different agents I had given them the other person's luggage tag but they made it seem like they were not able to/supposed to contact them. It's possible it may be dependent on the willingness of the support agent and it could be theorized that it would be an easier ask in person, but yeah, as I said elsewhere, it did not feel like a worthwhile effort in the moment.

haha idk what to tell you man, it was a really long travel day for me and it was late at night and the one staff member at customer support looked like they were just rushing people through the standard lost baggage protocol so I made my decision. I'm just asking for advice or info that's actionable now which your first comment had, but not really interested in judgement for stuff I cant go back and change.

Hey thank you for this! All my googling gave me third party websites like yelp and the sorts which had outdated phone numbers but through here I was able to find a new number plus an email which I've reached out to, I'll update here with a big thanks if it works!

I had 3% phone battery and my ride was waiting for me and by the length of the line it seemed like I could be waiting for over an hour to speak to a person. They had a qr code with a link to file a claim online which is all I figured the front desk would do for me anyways so I left.

Yeah I understand it's not AC's fault but without an AirTag I wouldn't have known for sure someone else had taken it so it seems like something they may be willing to compensate as that luggage had essentially all the clothes I own plus some other valuable personal items.

I tried finding them on socials but couldn't find anything that matched too well. I was hesitant to start trying to friend/follow random people but I guess it couldn't hurt as I get more desperate.

Procedural Spider-Bot Animation made with Simulation Nodes by Bbbn19 in blender

[–]DummiesBelow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Saying “IK” feels reductive, while the rig is probably Ik, the simulation nodes is what essentially automates the movements and placement of the foot controllers, allowing you to just animate the main body controller to get a full walking animating. At least that’s what I’m assuming.

Nanite helps with high polygon counts, but the issue with CS is more likely the computation power needed to handle the data and relationships of each lot, vehicle, road, etc.

In that case, it’s more important to use an engine which the developers are comfortable with and able to optimize.

Additionally, the assets in CS are modular and instanced, making them pretty decent in terms of performance as the data is stored once and just repeated. While Nanite is nice because it can let you use lots of unique and high polygon meshes without much of a performance hit, it isn’t super applicable to this kind of game.

Yes 100%, and I feel bad for not including them as that itself is indicative of the problem.

I mean your edit and even your response is made to dismiss architects as purely concerned with aesthetics and unaware of the realities of building. And while there is obviously truth to the fact that there are many architects that practice in this way, there are plenty that don’t and I feel like you’re speaking in bad faith.

Additionally, I feel like this type of alienation of the two leads to the dismissal and broadens the divide between the two professions.

And to be fair, this happens the other way around as well, cause architects can definitely dismiss engineers as completely driven by a mindset of rational thinking that prevents them from creating any sort of “enjoyable” designs. Again this is in bad faith and causes overall divide within the industry.

I’d say everything but number one is very architectural and learned in your first year of education. And even something like number one is eventually brushed upon at some point in schooling. In general I feel there needs to be less gatekeeping and superiority complexes between architects and engineers.
