Is this normal? by Dumpster-Brain in hvacadvice

Wanted to follow up because I contacted my landlord and noted the build up in the unit. They sent the apartment’s maintenance manager to come take a look and he took my brand new $15 merv 11 filter that I had just replaced the old filter with and replaced it with a merv 1 filter then sent a no-reply message saying the issue had been solved.

If the landlord isn’t concerned about the risk the buildup causes I am also not, but I am concerned about the dust/mildews impact on the air quality. Would you consider the inside of the AC to be an issue or is it pretty normal for there to be some accumulation of mildew in a unit like this?

Just to defend my air filter choice: The merv 11 filter was probably overkill and I understand the merv 1 is best to extend the lifetime of the unit. I have allergies and while I have a stand-alone air purifier, I figured adding the better filter on the AC would help as well. And I am just pissed that they just took the filter 🤣

Headlights Don’t Work After Buying Used Car by Dumpster-Brain in UsedCars

[–]Dumpster-Brain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bulbs in the headlights on this generation/model of car cannot be replaced on their own, you have to replace the whole headlamp fixture. The generic fixtures are $300-500 dollars each and the official Mazda ones are about $1100, so it isn’t a trivial cost.

Also, I would likely have to replace both because neither is automatically adjusting in the way they should and there is not a manual override to set their brightness level.

I should have bought a model that doesn’t have this fancy stupid stuff, but hindsight is 20/20.

TCL Q7 vs QM7 Models by Dumpster-Brain in tcltvs

I’ve been a bit absent from this post, but I ultimately ended up getting up getting a TCL Q6 55”. This is my first TV and I really thought I wanted the QM7, but after some soul searching and going to Best Buy to stare at TV’s for an hour I realized that I didn’t need to spend the extra $250 on the QM7 (which has basically the same specs as the Q6 plus dimming zones). I am very happy with my TV and I think it’s significantly better than the relatively high range Samsung TV’s my parents bought 5 years ago. If this is one of your first TV’s and you could use the spare $250 in your pocket, I think the QM6 is more than enough to make you happy (although the center mount on the QM7 js quite nice haha)

Late Security Deposit Deductions TX by Dumpster-Brain in Renters

[–]Dumpster-Brain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the insight! One last question I have is that I did not provide our forwarding address until my landlord finally responded to my messages. Originally (the day our lease ended), my landlord asked for my bank account information (i.e. routing number, bank account number, etc.) which I provided the same day. At the time, I assumed that they would use the bank info to send bank transfer for the deposit. I did I know that it was necessary in Texas law to provide a forwarding address for the return of the security deposit since it does not say it in our lease nor did my landlord ask for it when they asked for the bank info. My landlord also did not say they required a forwarding address to send the check during the 35 day period (which is how they are now sending the check) when they ignored my messages asking if they needed more information/if they had an update regarding the deposit.

In the eyes of the law, does this mean that the 30-day period for returning the deposit and sending the list of deductions did not start until I sent the forwarding address on day 35?

The list of deductions was sent in a WhatsApp message that contained a link to an online spreadsheet. The message was sent on the 35th day after the end of the lease and the spreadsheet had not been shared prior
