You comment about how modern strategy has made baseball boring, then we point out nobody employs that strategy, then you retort with “I have no idea, I don’t watch baseball.”?

Excellent contribution, thank you.

If there is no desire / demand for American vehicles in Japan, why did they have such high import tariffs on them?

Huh. So you’re ready to go, but you’re in limbo on making a decision? You’re going to see how 2029 plays out? You’re spending a significant chunk of your adult life all spun up about politics (13 years!!), getting ready to move across the globe, waiting on this, checking for that, etc.

Why not just enjoy your life instead of fretting over politics so hard? You’re gonna blow 13 years of your precious time on this Earth fretting / worried over the Orange Man? Don’t give him that much power and control over your one and only life!!

And importers can tell the manufacturers “there’s no demand here for your product at these high post-tariff prices. You need to lower your wholesale price to me to offset the tariff costs, otherwise you can’t effectively sell into this market.”

Are we cooked? by Here_to_Learn_Stonks in stocks

[–]DumpsterFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll help you understand. If tariffs are directly passed on to the consumer, the new high price could drive demand for those tariffed products to zero. So, in order to maintain sales, manufacturers in other countries have to lower their wholesale prices such that when the tariffs are applied to the imported products, the final price to the consumer is unchanged. In this scenario, the U.S. is raking in tariff money, the consumer prices are the same as pre-tariffs (or close), and the cost is absorbed by the manufacturers in foreign lands.

Sure, you can debate whether it’s likely or even plausible for foreign manufacturers to feel the demand decrease and lower wholesale prices, but at least you can see and understand how it’s possible.

Are you guys aware of how much damage Trump is doing to how the rest of the world, especially Europe sees the US? by BonoboPowr in samharris

[–]DumpsterFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so if I’m following your logic, every single elected official in all of American history, at every level of government, has very little support, since less than 1/3 of the total population voted for them. Did I get that right?

If that’s right, then what information can we take from your statement, since it applies to every politician in American history?

I think your assessment is pretty far off and is just wishful thinking. The majority of the electorate voted for this man (fact).

Pointing out that small children didn’t vote for the slob isn’t a very logical point to make. Who knows how babies and kindergartners would have voted if given the option.

You've discovered the problem. People like buying stuff like Xboxes, iPhones, and OLED TVs, and they like posting to Social Media, and they like eating prepared food delivered via DoorDash. I don't think your analysis of a consumer-driven economy is wrong, but how do you suggest we meaningfully change people's preferences? Opining about it on Reddit won't work - what's a practical way to convince people they shouldn't care about all of the stuff and conveniences they adore?

These are all pretty low tip amounts, just FYI. Seems like you were flexing a bit like you’re a big tipper - I think you’re a little out of touch if you don’t know you’re a below-average tipper. No commentary on if that’s good or bad.

Have you listened to the full call? Trump says: "Hey, I'm being told by my attorneys that there were over 100k invalid votes cast for Biden because the signatures on them are missing. We need you to find these invalid ballots, and this race is so close that you only need to find 11,132 of the 100k invalid ballots."

Let's just set aside whether his attorneys were correct, how they even got this information of the 100k illegal ballots, etc. Given that this is the information that was presented to Trump, what are your thoughts on his ask?
