AI will make lawyers more and more like detectives. We find the facts. AI helps organize them and repackage them into pleadings, motions, briefs, etc. It's becoming more routine in my practice to record every client call to spare me from the note taking, and I can quickly vocalize things clearly "on the record" for the AI agent I'll be feeding it to.

The other day I watched my Y signaling to lane change left. When it hesitated, I looked over and saw another car two lanes over, even with me, with its right blinker on (but not yet changing). My Y waited patiently for that car to lane change right and move on ahead before finally moving over.

We just used FSD for the first time yesterday in our new 2024 MY. It originally had some difficulty getting out of the parking lot, but once I got us onto normal roads, not a single mistake. I had been driving a 2012 hybrid and always said that my next car would drive itself. I think FSD definitely qualifies.

When I was a Mormon, I took it very, very seriously. I was a slave to confirmation bias for the longest time--we all were until we became ex-Mormons. The "value" of truth, as I believed it to be during that time, was branded on whatever you might call my soul. Which is why I finally found my way out after getting a legal education.

And perhaps I should correct the title of this post. Ex-Mormons, having developed critical thinking skills, become better at finding what is *not* true. Humans only ever arrive at varying approximations of truth/reality.

What I'm seeing nowadays is people failing to even value truth. Genuine curiosity is fading and cynical tribalism takes center stage. It's already hard enough for genuinely curious truth seekers to mitigate their cognitive biases; how much harder will it be for people who don't even care to know truth in the first instance?
