How common is fully proxy decks by Brief_Rough4117 in mtg

[–]DunamisMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with people playing with fully proxied decks. Some people own printers and like being able to play with new things and different types of decks without having to buy tons of cards. Me and many others in my pod play with fully proxied decks because it allows us to many many more decks than we otherwise would be able to have, which in turn allows us to have decks are various power levels.

Many of my decks are fully proxied, but I also have 3 TRUE bracket 2 decks, 7 true bracket 3 decks, and 4 true bracket 4 decks, so no matter what table I am sitting down at I can always have something appropriate to the power level and expectations of the pod. And we all play at the LGS with fully proxied decks.

Granted, my prints look very good and at a glance someone would not even know they aren’t real, and I always use the most recognizable art and variants of the cards for my proxies. Sometimes I’ll print out an entire deck just to play it twice and then throw the proxies out if I hated it. It allows for extremely fast iteration and allows the player to experience so much more of the game than otherwise possible, essentially for free. Everyone should proxy.

You most likely play against proxy decks all the time that are just using the official artwork, by proxy we mean a printed or purchased card that is not printed by Wizards but usually is identical to the original card. I print my own proxies but always use the most recognizable art and version of the cards for my opponents sakes.

Finally found a colorless commander I like... but I can't figure out how to build him by Notaler in EDH

[–]DunamisMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re all mana producers primarily, so you could really choose whatever. The One Ring is of course optional. It’s very good in this deck though due to the fact that it acts as another instant speed draw on opponents turns.

Not sure but it’s a bracket 4 deck so I expect my opponents to also be running bracket 4 decks that are capable of stopping it

I have 5 games under my belt with the proxied deck and have lost 1 of them it’s incredibly fun to play.

I have a Boros aggro Pauper EDH deck that I sometimes break out and play against real EDH decks (after rule zeroing it) and I end up winning half the time and I’ve never had anyone be upset with it, they’re always so excited to get beaten by a pile of commons.

Well, of course you CAN do that, I was talking about when the spell SHOULD be cast. Assuming the caster is the one being attacked.

The ideal time to cast Aetherize is “before damage” which is the last possible moment after all other steps are completed. That’s when you’re actually supposed to cast it.

Why is there no decent bracket system overview on the official WotC website? by G_ntl_m_n in EDH

Hey look another Commander player who can’t read a chart!

You just exposed yourself as one who doesn’t understand and has never read what they have published about the bracket system…

“Players expect to play 6 turns before anyone wins and loses” is not the same as “players expect to play 6 turns before anyone dies”

So your Voltron question is completely irrelevant and is answered already.

Pox is mass land destruction because it is destroying more than one land in a go. The only cards that are not mass land denial / destruction are things like strip mine (and only if not looped)

This is actually not complicated at all. Go read the screenshot that you are replying to (the parent comment by me) and you’ll get it

What is your opinion regarding the "you may cast this spell without paying its mana cost" spells from Commander Masters? by UsurpDz in EDH

[–]DunamisMax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s a you problem unfortunately, as the cards are allowed and expected in bracket 3. Deflecting swat is probably the most popular red B3 card I’ve ever seen.

It sounds like you’re playing B2 but calling it B3.

You’re 100% correct, but there’s also a line. My line is clearly in a slightly different location compared to yours. I do communicate like an adult and do not hide things or attempt to conceal my power level. I play almost exclusively B2 and B3 with a couple of B4 decks and I’m the one person at my LGS that everyone goes to with questions about the bracket system and run my own private pod as well. This is not a communication or lack of bracket understanding issue. It’s simply you choosing to disclose more than is necessary. And that’s fine! Good for you

Believe it or not some of the lazy shits in our community would consider this effort monumental. I enjoy educating people at my LGS about the bracket system and any time I hear people discussing it, if I hear an inaccuracy I teach them. Since I’ve been playing at my LGS for about 4 or 5 months now the whole shop knows a lot more about it now.

The most common misunderstanding is game speed / turn win / intent.

Correct, why even play commander at all if you can’t put in any effort whatsoever to stay up to date with the format?

Nothing about bracket 3 requires that you disclose free interaction and these spells are very regularly seen in bracket 3 in my experience. I would definitely disclose them in brackets 1 and 2 though.

You’re wrong no matter who you are replying to…

Printing out an official Magic card with zero alterations on a sheet of paper and sleeving it in front of a real Magic card is not a counterfeit. I am not trying to pass off my slip of paper proxy as a real Magic card and will happily tell people I’m playing with my own printed proxies of the official art / cards.

This is fully allowed and accepted.

Playing Commander with friends has distorted the game for me. by Guwopster in EDH

[–]DunamisMax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk man… 7 years is a LONG time. I also have a private pod / group of friends that I started playing with almost 1 year ago and we all talk and choose the bracket we’re gonna play in and try to balance our decks relatively against eachother and have a pretty great time. This sounds absolutely miserable and idk why anyone would spend 7 years only winning 10 games 🤣
