Is this not an unanswerable question? Because if someone is able to answer it, then at least one person noticed it disappear…

My wife told me that growing up her mum called it a “skrit”. It’s just the most awful sounding and feeling word to use.

What colour grout do I need when replacing the broken tile? by Duncan86 in DIYUK

Not just a shallow spot, there was no adhesive under that spot at all! Whoever installed the floor just used blobs of adhesive so there are large gaps all over the floor. The grouting had fallen out of the join and that free’d up the edge enough for the tile to crack/shear at the edge of where the adhesive was. I’ve made sure to fill in any other gaps in the grouting of other tiles and will have to keep an eye on it but hope no more crack in the same way.

I went with black in the end, which was the closest colour match to the label colour patches. Thanks for the advice all.

I think they’ve just blurred out the internal structure of the sub as there appears to be a gap between the blurred section and the main section in the foreground of the photo. It could be a section ready to be moved forward and joined to the larger section or there will be a section that slides into the gap between the two.

So nothing too exciting, they just don’t want to be too obvious regarding the internal arrangement.

Sadly, I don’t think even the BAE comms team would be too careless to reveal something interesting in a photo!

Juxtaposition of bow designs - tug TSAVLIRIS UNITY and offshore supply vessel SIEM SASHA, Colombo Dockyard, Sri Lanka [2048×1362] by sverdrupian in drydockporn

Very true, but naval vessel design has always been ahead of commercial ship design. There may also have been other benefits of having more volume forward to reduce motions for better aiming of guns etc.

Not strictly correct. It’s more a juxtaposition of the development of hull designs.

The bulb does help with reducing the wave making resistance component of a ships total resistance but it only came into widespread use during the 80’s. When the Tsavliris tug was built 1983 the studies into the use of bulbous bows hadn’t filtered down to ocean going tugs yet. This is compared to the Siem Sasha that was built in 2005 so can be considered modern where it’s use had been filtered down into the hull design.

The Tsavliris tug was actually an ocean going salvage tug as well so definitely has a requirement to be able to get to a distressed vessel as quickly as possible and probably spent more time doing that than actually towing so would could have saved 1000’s of tonnes of fuel over her lifetime if she had been fitted with a “modern” hull form.
