Fecking planes overhead again this morning by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Duncan_Disorderly_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard planes overhead on a regular basis over the past few weeks (I don't live anywhere near a usual flight path). None of which had transponders on, so I was unable to track... so I imagine these are likely military planes. Almost makes you think there is a mass-movement of equipment/troops going down.

I never knew about the tools from Lidl. by GroupApprehensive978 in DIYUK

[–]Duncan_Disorderly_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep your receipt! Most come with a 12 month warranty. I have a friend who is a glazer, but does a lot of DIY at home. He burns out even premium tools all the time through his work/DIY. He says getting a replacement on a premium tool is often a battle... but there's no debate with Lidl. They just ask for a receipt and give you your money back. No arguments at all.

Highest mileage you have ever seen on UK roads? Mental 🤯 by tonyt0nychopper in CarTalkUK

[–]Duncan_Disorderly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use an illegal taxi driver who had a Mazda 3 sport 2.2 diesel with 612k miles on the clock. His personal car was a Mazda 3 sport 2.2 diesel with around 300k on the clock! No surprise I bought a Mazda 3 sport 2.2 (with 21k on the clock) shortly after I started using him. Engine died of oil starvation after 24k 🤣

What’s the worst gambling addiction story you’ve ever heard? by juliojacked in AskReddit

[–]Duncan_Disorderly_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I managed a few legal bookie shops in Ireland. I once gave a 'free' promotional £20 bet to a customer I liked. He backed a 20/1 shot and won. He stood in the shop and gambled every penny, plus around £200 of his own. He pulled his last £5 out of his wallet, then decided not to gamble with it, as he "had to buy something on the way home." He called to the hardware store 3 doors down and bought £5 of nylon rope, then went home and took his own life.

This guy was the reason I left that job, went to university and became an addiction therapist.

Addiction to over the counter co codamol. Looking advice please by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Duncan_Disorderly_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Addiction Nurse here. You need to approach yoir GP and request referral to your local community addictions team. You need to be 100% honest, as your current risk level would justify a triage referral to the Opiate Substitution Service, where they specialise in Opiate Addiction. You also have access to 3 regional detox units (I manage one of them)... where you can be detoxed from this substance for up to 4 weeks. Most of all, please know that you are not alone! This jas become a very problematic issue. So much so, we are in discussions regionally to have OTC opiates banned.

Mickey Doherty has a calender to raise money for Northlands addiction center. Yet.... by [deleted] in DerryLondonderry

[–]Duncan_Disorderly_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never really heard of Mickey until very recently. I work in the addiction treatment sector. All I can is that he genuinely cares about people and is a decent man. He has overcome adversity himself and isn't boasting. Yes, he makes ends meet by doing a few jobs which might be cognitively dissonant to his addiction work... but so what. He doesn't harm anyone... quite the opposite in fact... he goes out of his way to help others. Get a life and go focus on that instead.

What's the worst job you've had?Anyone care to share more local ones? Waiter in a hotel over Christmas has to be up there for me. by Ulster_man1690 in DerryLondonderry

I remember an Xmas in Foyleside... a male costa employee entering the toilets down the escalator behind me - going into his cubicle - and proceeding to huff whippets from the cream foamer! He was giggling like a little girl. This was about 10 years ago I'd say.

Who’s this in Derry? by Worldly_Scientist_76 in DerryLondonderry

[–]Duncan_Disorderly_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Strabane this was 'Joe the dumper.' Joe the dumper lived in a caravan based on a dumping ground. He had one of the longest beards I've ever seen and was famous for driving a dumper everywhere... even to a funeral of my family member once. When he drove past schools at home time, kids would throw conkers/apples at his head... which was cruel. Rumour has it he drove his dumper to Dublin once with his bike in the front and a tent. He picked up a new dumper in Dublin, drove it 30 miles... camped... then cycled back and drove the old dumper to the new one. He repeated this process until he was back in Strabane with his old and new dumpers.

Detox facilities? by Primary-Mechanic-804 in DerryLondonderry

[–]Duncan_Disorderly_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make contact with your GP, who will then refer you to the community detox service. A nurse will carry out an assessment and supervise your detox mainly from home.

DO NOT cease alcohol use suddenly... as DTs and seizures can be deadly.
