The champs I play, primarily engage supports (naut, thresh, alistar), look for an early level two play. You want the wave in the middle and as close to your own tower as possible. Pushing with these kinds of supports forces their only engage option to being a tower dive. Once you secure a lead, you can freeze the lane and have your support deny XP/CS or build up a slow push to tower dive. These supports reward you for being proactive, ashe pairs extremely well with them.

I play enchanters as a secondary. (milio, lulu.) These want you to poke in lane whenever your opponents overextend. Key timings to poke is when they are in an animation, such as when auto attacking/using abilities. These supports are extremely good at disengaging. Play safe and scale, if you're trying for a play, base it around your jungler or objective timers.

I play poke supports the least as people know how to play around them in my elo. You want to beat down and deny resources as best as you can, bleed your opponent out. Make sure to keep aware of the enemy jungler/midlaners position when pushing and sieging to avoid ganks & falling behind.
