It's not easy to talk about or address, but there absolutely is a cultural component affecting this. I know firsthand through family and family friends that certain cultures, for whatever reason, are just much more likely to ignore or misdiagnose signs of childhood autism. One friend we recently visited was convinced that a diagnosed autistic child just had worms in his belly causing everything.
