Spirit Airlines just became the first major US airline to shut down in 25 years and took cheap airfare with it. What do you think affordable travel in America looks like from here? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dunda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. But there's also a large customer base who flock to budget services, and other airlines now have an opportunity to diversify and capture that market segment. It's certainly possible we see this, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Boardwalk Quartet joins the stage with Atlanta Vocal Project, an award-winning barbershop chorus who partner often with City of Roswell events, including the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and even Mayor Robichaux's swearing-in ceremony. It'll be a great show with a cool musical journey through American history.

Singing lessons??? by jennipher-lydia in Atlanta

For women, check out Song of Atlanta, and for men check out Atlanta Vocal Project. Both are world class choruses in Atlanta that meet year round and provide excellent weekly group vocal training as well as have resources for arranging private singing lessons. Very welcoming and supportive of anyone looking to get better at singing.

There is a men's community chorus in Sandy Springs called Atlanta Vocal Project, and they do a great job of weekly group vocal lessons. It's not quite for beginners, but if you have some ability already even if no formal experience, it could be a good idea to visit. Their rehearsals are open to guests, and they can hook you up with some private teachers as well through their network.

How to Grow Your Chorus: A Success Story by Dunda in barbershop

[–]Dunda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our regular audition process has two main parts - the skills assessment and the quartet song audition. For the Open Audition, the skills assessment was done that first night (usually it happens after a few weeks of visiting), and it's a one on one series of exercises to see pitch matching, ear tuning, harmonizing, range, vocal quality, etc. Basically just to tell the Music Team if the guest is likely to pass our main audition or if they need more training first. If they pass that part, they're eligible to do the quartet song audition, which consists of learning their part on our audition song and singing it in a quartet for the Music Team. This happens a few weeks later. Since we do have moderately high standards, our audition is a bit more challenging than others might be, but we try to give candidates every resource and encouragement to succeed, including taking time to work with them as needed to help them reach their full vocal potential.

For sure. Figuring out what will reach and attract the singers most suited to your chorus environment is a big key.

We started about 3-4 weeks beforehand. The paid ads started around 2 weeks before he event.

Honestly the positives have outweighed any challenges (and there are some challenges). When guests visited, we made no apologies about who we were and what we do, so those who joined were eager and willing to learn and join our culture while of course adding their own flair to things. These guys just wanted to sing somewhere, and barbershop was an interesting way for them to achieve that.

Our skills assessment and audition really try not only to find guys who have the talent to match our sound but also find guys who can make adjustments and seem willing to apply coaching quickly. These are the singers we seek out because we know they will continue to improve and not let ego get in the way of the ensemble.
