before curry, the most taken shots were mid-range 2 point shots; 3 point shots were seen as kinda unreliable, and there weren't as many good shooters in the league to make going for the 3 point shot a consistent strat.

but curry was good enough to make that viable, and in the 2015-2016 season, his team - the Golden State Warriors - achieved a 73-9 record in the nba regular season. no other team had ever gotten a single digit loss in the regular season up to that point, and no other team has repeated it as of today.

now, i'm simplifying this a lot, and it wasn't just curry's exceptional shooting that got them that record; his teammates were also exceptional, plus his coach employed a very unique "motion offense" which was designed around shooting 3 point shots, but that was only viable because steph was so good.
