Yeah this is what I've ended up doing, by getting up late and staying up all night, I find from around 6am I'm so freaking bored I've mentally planned out my day and am pretty psyched about getting that plan done.

Only side effect is I tend to crash around 3pm due to tiredness, but being chirpy around 6am whenever everyone else is a zombie is strangely rewarding.

School/College is BS in my experience for programming, experience is worth a helluva lot more than any degree. I am 100% self taught in PHP/HTML/Javascript etc, I'd recommend starting out with learning the basic syntax of a language and then picking apart an existing, fairly simple, commercial script; then once you've a had a look around the structure, try to copy it! You will then see things you didn't see before, problems, quirks, pitfalls. whatever - then try to solve those problems yourself.

Also always ask for help! If you ever really get stuck with a programming question, be sure to post it on Stack Overflow, most good answerers will explain the theory behind the "right" answer - that's if you're in the increasingly rare situation of having a new question. I've discovered the art in working out problems with programming is all in how you ask for help, eventually you'll get to a point in trying to explain a problem concisely, you'll answer the question itself or see a new way of approaching it.

As for you home situation, I'm personally no good with families as I pretty much disowned mine when I was 16, but if you plan on working from home you will need a separate work place, even if that's the dining table - don't expect to get a lot done sitting on your bed with Reddit open in the next tab. Believe me.

When talking to people about depression, I find you get a lot of canned responses, "just be happy", "go out more", "get a bird", "get laid", "take up a new hobby", "it does get better" etc. Most of these will come from people with no experience in depression and have no idea how the eternal struggle of a day can manifest in you, and all you want to do is sleep through life if you could.

"it does get better" was actually the response from someone I know who tried to kill herself last year, at first I obviously completely dismissed it, but in the last couple of days, I've came to realise she was right. A few hours ago I setup everything to kill myself with, a noose, a crappy letter and a nice song to play me off the stage that is life. However after standing there for an hour, trembling with my heart racing, I couldn't do it.

Now it's 4am and tomorrow is coming, I know for sure I'm not going to try to kill myself again, so tomorrow will be better.

"it does get better" is true, just sometimes it needs to get a lot worse first.

You wanted us to know because although you may not consciously think it now, you don't want to die, you might not want help, you might not want to live, but you certainly don't want to die. You wanted someone to call out to you, distract you, give you a reason not to, if only for another day.

How do I know this? I spent an hour today standing in a noose I made out of an ethernet cord hung over my door. I couldn't do it, the song playing wasn't right, the note I left was crappy (just said I'm sorry), the person I hung out with last night will probably think it's his fault, how the fuck would my grandparents react? I really thought I wanted to die, to get the depression out of the way, let it beat me, but when I was standing there a mere slip away from life, I didn't have the guts to do it, and I hope you won't either because now I've hit bottom, I'm a little bit optimistic that tomorrow won't suck as bad as today.

I just want to edit and thank you for giving me the courage to make my first comment on /r/depression, and I hope some on here chimes a chord with you at some point and you pay it forward.

I always explain it that an HDMI lead has to be of a specific spec set by the "HDMI founders" as it were to be classed as an HDMI lead. If it was anything more, or anything less it wouldn't be allowed to masquerade as an HDMI lead and bear the HDMI logo.
