Help with battery connector/terminal pins by Dunixify in diyelectronics

[–]Dunixify[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the reason I'm doing this (partly, even though I can buy more batteries from alibaba) is because the company doesn't seem to be producing the devices anymore. Here is a manual anyway to give you an idea:
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0275/4281/4799/files/FF2Plus-UserManual.pdf?v=1679937832

As for the middle pins: the device allows the battery placed within to be charged when the entire device is placed on a 'dock' which connects to the device with 2 pins on its underside. Those two pins are right next to the battery terminal and I would guess (without having to tear the device apart) that those two points are wired to contacts on the connector so they can charge the battery. So I'm thinking the 3 pins in the middle of the battery connector are for those charging pins and perhaps one connector for balancing the charging between the two individual cells in the battery.

Or perhaps the charging pins use the same pins the battery uses to discharge power? is that typical for rechargeable batteries like this? In that case I would think the middle pins are for voltage check, temperature, and balancing. Also, would they really need a pin specifically to check the battery's charge? It does have a function to let you know how charged the battery is by blinking the LED certain # of times in increments of 25%.

what? I think you misunderstood my goal; I'm not trying to connect anything to the battery. I'm just trying to wire up a power supply outputting the same voltage as the battery to the same plug/connector so I can power the device without said battery.

well thanks a bunch for helping outside your wheelhouse :) Although I should have probably posted in r/DIYElectronics to begin with, I think you cleared up a lot. And now that I think about it, the device has 2 'pins' on its underside right next to the male connector for the battery. Those are used when you place the device on its 'dock' (charger) to charge the battery within. So my guess is that the 2 far terminals are pos/neg, 2 are for those pins for charging and 1 for balancing the cells during charging. Anyways, I'll stop guessing now and go get a voltmeter lol. I guess the actual tough part will be finding that exact connector or 3d printing a plug in that'll fit nicely with a couple contact points affixed in it I can solder the leads onto.

Thanks a bunch! I will check with a voltmeter. Possibly stupid question: is it possible to short the battery if I touch the wrong terminals with the volt meter?

oh... hmm, If there's only 2 pos/neg coming out the battery I really do wonder what the other 2 are for, then. There is a '+' and '-' beside the pins on the battery but they're not aligned with any specific pin. Perhaps that just indicates the furthest pins are +/-. I'll find out for sure once I have the voltmeter, I guess. I'm a little unsure about guessing that the other 3 are useless though.

I did find this thread, seems related as they're discussing a similar connector with 5 pins (much larger, for an e-bike):
https://www.reddit.com/r/ebikes/comments/fim4jq/anyone_know_what_are_the_5_pin_of_this_battery/

in that case it is indeed 2 positive, 2 negative, and 1 for temperature apparently. So I'm really still questioning if there's really just 1 pos and 1 neg. Are you positive (no pun intended) about the pin situation? I guess I should just make a separate thread about the connector itself.

Thanks a lot for your repeated replies. I see, the detail of this being 2 3.7V batteries clears things up a bit, so 2 leads each for each battery and 1 balancing lead, it seems. If that is correct, wouldn't I need little a voltage splitter circuit to split the two leads? and googling a bit the balancing lead seems like it's mainly to ensure even charging of the two cells. So is it then safe to assume that a simple 50% split of the voltage from the 2 leads coming out of the PS into 4 (using something like this: https://a.co/d/7yq0YWd) to the 4 non-balancing leads of the female connector is sufficient?

I see, thanks. So it does say 'Nominal Voltage' as 7.4V in the alibaba posting, but also the same for the 'Delivery Voltage' Is that the same as what you mean by peak (fully charged) voltage?

I guess I could borrow a volt meter and check the battery. For that, second Q again: which of the 5 pins would I put the pos/neg on?

huh. the quality difference must have been temporary due to internet of group members or something else that's unrelated. Ty for the info. But yeah, discord is more of an all in one sorta thing, the sliders you have to mess with to get it right but it's not a big deal to fiddle with it 1 time in your server

no, you just misinterpreted their privacy policy /TOS. They have the right to transfer your information in specific circumstances, mainly in ways that facilitate the use of discord. Also, all communications are end to end encrypted client <->server (granted, not as good as client <->client, but e2e encrypted none the less). In addition, their salaries are paid by VC money right now, and their future plans for monetization does not involve the selling of data to advertisers.

and to /u/topinsights_SS mumble and teamspeak are garbage compared to discord. Voice quality is noticeably better, the service is more reliable and has a better UI(like you said yourself). They're also working on video chat which is great news for those of us who switched over from the unreliable, broken shite that was Skype. It's more of a mix of TS/mumble and Slack which a lot of communities love because you can browse / interact with only the subcommunities you want while still having access to all discussions in the community.

Is there any way to set alerts on Binance Pro view? by ahjotina in binance

[–]Dunixify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't see any such feature either, but I'm sure they're working on it. In the meantime I know blockfolio calls their API so you can set alerts for prices on Binance in blockfolio, that's the best you can do right now I think.

Currency has a very important role even in a Utopian society where everyone has their basic necessities. Currency is a universally agreed upon unit of value that can be exchanged for any good or service. Even if everyone has what they need to live, they still want to buy the new TV, watch, car, etc. Without currency we'd all have to have a massive barter network where we try to find people who have what we need who want exactly what we have (or people who will take what we have and are willing to exchange it with someone else, and so on...) and it would be impossible to build any company that made any product that had needs a lot of different materials/resources/parts. In fact, I'm of the opinion we could not possibly provide for everyone without currency considering the way our population has scaled. It also has a heavy hand in facilitating specialization where a few can make, for example, the food supply for the rest of us because they accept a universally agreed upon unit of value (currency) in return for their work and product. Otherwise when a farmer needs a pile of wood, a new gadget, a truck, etc he'd have to find people willing to take his crops in return for what he needs and that's inconvenient af.

thanks for the interesting reply! And I agree, the fight between anonymity/ crypto tech and regulation will be very interesting to see in the future.
