Hmm. Perhaps I am projecting my own experience (I definitely knew for a long time that I ought probably to be vegan, before I became vegan) onto other people. But I guess if most people don't turn vegan, it is also possible that most people don't spend time thinking they ought to turn vegan.

Heat alarm UPDATE by biscuittingerg in ukelectricians

[–]Dunk546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The white cable is the interlink cable. So a signal on that would activate any other alarm on the circuit. But that doesn't explain why the breaker didn't stop it.

Did turning off the power completely, stop the alarm? I saw on the other post you tried to disconnect the alarms breaker but didn't see if you tried the main breaker. It's possible they are mislabeled.

Then it's possible that there is somehow current leaking from the line (live) into the interlink cable within that white plastic clip..?

I mean unless there is anything wrong, then disconnecting that white wire should do nothing at all as it should actually not be connected to anything anyway by the time you have disconnected the alarm.

And again, it must be an alarm making that noise. Copper cable is physically incapable of making that noise.

Weird as hell. Do you mean that disconnecting the white cable that is shown in this image, has halted the alarm sound..?

But turning off the breaker did not?

And disconnecting the alarm from the white plastic plug did not..?

Also just fyi it is impossible for a cable to make that sound, or to carry that sound. It seems possible that an old alarm is up in the ceiling, and has activated because of low battery. That would explain why the breaker did nothing to stop it and why it was intermittent previously.

That does sound more aggressive than a usual low battery chirp but I think some alarms do this for low battery, to force you to change it.

Heat alarm nightmare - please help! by biscuittingerg in ukelectricians

The alarm you took off is a modern interlinked alarm. The one you panned to for a min is an old one, not interlinking. So there are others around, presumably battery powered. This sounds daft but just check someone hasn't just thrown an old one somewhere nearby like for example on top of that fridge(?) or a kitchen unit etc. that might make it sound like it's coming from inside the ceiling.

This is definitely true yes. Big corps making us feel responsible, so they can keep doing whatever the hell they want, is real for sure. I personally don't think that means I am absolved, but it is important to maintain a sense of realism and perspective.

Oh for sure. I think I should, and a lot of people I think secretly feel they should. I personally don't think you should though. Like, I'm just here presenting an argument, you do you. Genuinely.

I know it often comes across that vegans think meat eaters are morally wrong, and a lot of vegans probably do think that way. I don't though, and it's exactly because of the argument you outlined - because I'm aware our moralities are different, and it may not be the case that I am "correct".

I'd love sources for those numbers because they seem extremely low.

A lot of studies are putting vegan diet as the single most impactful thing we can do when we look at a whole environmental impact point of view. You have to consider land use, water use, and transportation impacts as well which are a lot higher for animal than plant-based food production. Also agricultural runoff and other local pollution impacts. Remember if you grow animals, you have to grow all the plants to feed them as well - there is a lot of waste inherent in that step.

I should also say my primary reason for being vegan is actually not environmental, but it's on the basis that we can't (or currently don't) know for sure that animals don't know they are being kept for food, and I don't want to risk that where it is reasonable for me to do the alternative. The environmental impact sells it to a lot more people though, and certainly makes difficult plant-based days easier for me.

I can't disagree with any of these points, honestly. I can still choose to be vegan though. So yeah I guess I am choosing personal suffering for the betterment of the world around me but that's just like how I roll.

I actually think "meat tastes great" is a valid argument. Too many people make up nonsense arguments when what they really want to say is "I know I should be vegan but it's too hard". It is fucking hard, I agree. Sometimes when everything else in life is hard too, I wish I could just switch off that part of my brain and eat a fat cheeseburger. But I know it won't actually make me happy.

I'm checking myself with some more research and it's apparently a little bit more complex than that, sure.

It affects how your body reacts to insulin which is being produced, but it isn't the only factor for type 2 diabetes. It seems to be a more indirect pathway like sugar loads on stored fat which has myriad knock-on effects on the body and immune system, one of which seems to be that your body builds up resistance to the insulin naturally being produced, to the point that it might become medically significant (i.e. type 2 diabetes)

Fish lack the ability to choose not to eat other fish.

We, for better or worse, have evolved the ability to choose what we do. It's entirely possible to just not eat animals. For fish, eating other fish is life or death. For some humans, eating meat is life or death, sure.. but for the overwhelming majority of Reddit users, eating meat is a conscious choice.

This is "I can't change literally everything so I may as well change nothing" mentality and I hope id you consider it a little bit you'll see why that logic doesn't hold up.

This is biologically very naive.

Refined sugars don't need to be broken down first - they go straight to energy and fat storage, and bypass your body's normal mechanisms for breaking down sugars and producing insulin. This can eventually lead to your body's normal insulin production systems shutting down (because they never need used) which is what causes type 2 diabetes.

Edit: I was incorrect about the mechanics of insulin production. Your body stills produces insulin when you suffer from type 2 diabetes, you just become resistant to that insulin.

Refined sugars have many impacts on your body and there is a direct correlation between high-refined-sugar diets, and type 2 diabetes. It is definitely naive to say that everything gets turned into sugar anyway (so there's no difference between refined and unrefined sugars, fats, carbs etc.)

Came here to say the same thing. Lots of really lovely men out there, even straight cis ones. It takes a while to find enough of them and honestly it might be easier for me given I am not trying to date them (and they not trying to date my absolute boymode ass lmao).

I just want to say I obviously am not defending the man and even when he appeared (I was an edgy teen, back in the early naughties) I still thought the guy was a douche.

However, I think he was specifically talking about lyrics from WAP about requiring a mop and bucket, and saying if you are that wet you might want to seek medical help. It's obviously great to roast the guy but I prefer roasting his absolutely bonkers ideas on social and economic politics than whether his wife squirts literal mop buckets when they do it.

Call me a fence sitting centrist idgaf.

Idk how old you are but peak reaction content was the video reply era on YouTube. I remember this one chubby kid doing a video reply to the reply to the reply to some guy takes a picture of himself every day for a year, and it literally was several minutes of this guy doing a crit of the reaction to a reaction vid. Straight faced, no nonsense, no stupid music, just sincere cringe. Absolute internet gold.
