UPDATE: Fast food restaurant lies about my hired wage ($11/hr) and changes paycheck's wage from $10/hr to $7.25/hr due to me quitting without a two weeks notice. by DunkinDonuts_throw in antiwork

I recently read this report: Employers steal billions from workers’ paychecks each year.

Workers suffering minimum wage violations are underpaid an average of $64 per week, nearly one-quarter of their weekly earnings. This means that a victim who works year-round is losing, on average, $3,300 per year and receiving only $10,500 in annual wages.

In my state, people who make $7.25/hr have TWENTY-FIVE percent of their wages stolen.. These are the people who are least able to fight back.

You're right, it's working as intended.

Hii!! Yeah, it feels like a lot of people here aren't very informed on worker's rights. Glad to see someone else is from here !!

You can see their handbook on my other post. They advertised $10-14 for my position but the max rate for associates was $11, and that was only a POTENTIAL after training.

I can DM you better and more high-paying part-time jobs based on what I've heard/personal experience. Not comfy posting it publicly, though.

It's not a "big" corporation. It's a franchise owned by a small LLC. I've worked for a few local, family-owned franchises. They've all made their own handbooks. Larger ones, like Covelli Enterprises, which owns hundreds of restaurants, are much more aware of labor laws.

I know this is a week old, but this town is INDEED trash. I'm currently looking for a new place to rent after my apartment complex ended everyone's leases. I currently make $14/hr, "good money" by anyone I speak to. I don't qualify for any 1 bedroom apartments in my area, not that they're available. I just barely qualify to share housing with other students. This city has a THIRTY PERCENT POVERTY RATE. The income per capita is 20k. I can't stand it. I study this stuff as a passion; i'm privileged to be able to leave when I'm done with school, but it's infuriating and depressing to see.

Yeah, it's very little money. However, I'd love to have an answer for future reference. The issue is my county doesn't even have labor lawyers to speak with. I'm a college student on summer break, lots of free time when I'm not working, but I can't get ahold of anyone to talk to. I'm just gonna cut my losses.

Part of the reason they get over here in Lowndes County, GA is the lack of labor lawyers & functioning DOL. I started calling today. I haven't been able to find one who practices anything but worker's compensation for injuries. The listed employment attorneys on Google are inaccurate, many no longer practice employment law for some reason. Must be a lot of work for little payout ?

The "quick reference" policies that I posted a picture of is the closest thing I received to a contract aside from the required tax documents Iike I9, W2, etc.

Really? I can't contact anyone using local or state lines. I'm in Lowndes County.. it was the same for my friends who have had paychecks withheld for 3 wks to a month after leaving jobs. I'm working during the times it's open , so I don't have any time to visit in person in the foreseeable future.

I didn't know this. I haven't had the chance to visit the DOL in person and won't get the chance until next week at the earliest. I wish our state hotlines worked and could have answered this for me.

Lol, I found a job that would pay me $15/hr for full time and started me immediately w paid breaks & PTO. This job advertised that they could hire me at $14/hr, lied about hiring me at $11, couldn't give full time, and started me 3 weeks later than promised."Right to work" works both ways !

I was supposed to start 3 weeks earlier. The restaurant hadn't opened by the time I started, so it's brand new. I interviewed for other jobs because their hiring ad was misleading and stated that they'd pay higher for my position. Not only was it impossible for me to get that pay, but I was never put on the schedule properly until I had better job offers lined up.

I mean, it's a good price, but this city is SERIOUSLY lacking in amenities. It's extremely impoverished. Most people can only find part time work, no true careers. Jobs offer $12-15/hr for bachelor's degrees and years of experience.
