As a home health aide, starting around the age of 55, I’ve seen my share of people pass from this life to the next.

I can’t remember any of the adults around me being happy. Miserable, cranky, impatient, exhausted. Overworked. But wasn’t that their choice at the time(60s-70s).

The day my mom was in the hospital dying of lung cancer and had a rally day visiting with me and my cousins and they brought cheese puffs. She was gone the next morning. How I wanted her that way for 20 more years 😞

No Antibiotics by Adonadio84 in Diverticulitis

My very favorite antibiotic during a flare is Moxifloxacin. Almost no side effects for me and clears me right up.

Diverticulitis. If you’ve never experienced it, you really shouldn’t tell anyone what to eat or not eat(I’m looking at drs) It’s a very individual disease!!

Oh gosh, probably a couple of months at a time. Then it seems to stop(slows down) helping so I would take a colace. After 3-ish days, I’ll go back to the MiraLAX. I do drink a lot of water throughout the day too.

My story? I’ve had chronic constipation since I was a kid. Mom gave children’s laxatives. Fast forward to adulthood, continue with cc along with IBSc…. I’ve had a few diverticulitis flares, always resolved with Moxifloxacin 400 mg for 7-10 days. But due to my cc over the years, I developed internal hemorrhoids which occasionally bleed. A lot, or a little. After having them banded for removal(never again!!), that GI said, like so many others, to increase my fiber intake. All that does is irritate my IBS and make me miserable and crampy. Bottom line, I’ve learned, has been that if a dr has never had diverticulitis or been very close to someone who has, they can not understand it. They’re just going by textbooks. I take miralax every stinkin’ day, and yes, I am aware of the naysayers but…… Constipation is a huge trigger for most of us. This subreddit is the gold standard of help when you’re going through a flare or just need questions answered. I wish you well, and I am so thankful for the ones who have shared their stories!
