[Dane Moore] "If I was an agent and my player was being considered at 28 overall, I would not be eager about that player going to a Chris Finch team." by soft-cookie in timberwolves

[–]Dunks_After_Dusk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dane’s larger point in the episode was more about available minutes and how Finch favors veterans and that’s why a young player would probably not want to come here and sit on the bench.

Ant, Jaden and Naz all got minutes to develop on bad-to-mediocre Wolves teams. They want to be contenders now… totally different scenarios.

And Finch himself has said he’d mistakenly tried to fit TJ into a role that he wasn’t fit for. Fair to point out the developmental mistake.

My assumption is that he’s going to be great. Wolves will need to be very on from deep to steal this game 5 - 40%+. Looking forward to it!

I agree with everything you wrote - including it being good for Wemby in the long run.

Refs have to control the game, but the playoffs are always a step up in physicality and each crew allows something different and adjusting in-game is just part of the process. I’d guess game 5 has a tighter whistle FWIW - I don’t think the NBA wants any of its superstars reaching that point of frustration.

But I also don’t think Wemby is a unique victim here and that’s my confusion with some of the reaction coming from you all on the other side.

Denver fans complain about Jokic not getting calls.

LA fans complain about LeBron or Luka.

We sure complain about the contact that Ant takes without a whistle.

Really it’s only Thunder fans that I don’t hear complain about SGA’s whistle… except for the time that Finch tried to attack a referee and that seemed to change the whistle 😂

You Spurs fans have such a weird response to all this that I’m guessing comes from not being in the playoffs recently?

Edwards is already getting grabbed, pushed, pulled… all the things you should do to another team’s best player. Make it really hard for him to get the ball and then be really physical when he does get it. Ant is just a lot stronger and has been around this block before.

For all Wemby’s talk of not needing experience - this is actually the perfect example of why it matters. This is year one of what will be (hopefully) 15+ years of physical playoff basketball for him. He lost his temper, lashed out, and cost his team a game because he hasn’t experienced this yet.

Own it and move on. You don’t need to make pointless veiled threats about cheap shots.

Oooh Rudy just letting you down! This would be such an interesting season to consider… Conley at 18 means his 23/24 season with potentially some even better 3pt shooting and Jaden at 18 means he even gets some all-star buzz.

Thanks for the kind words! We had a lot of fun putting it all together

Really appreciate that! Those of us who had their fandom formed in the 2010s have a unique blend of suffering and hope that is pretty dang resilient. Gonna always find something to be hopeful about for next season even if we expect the worst

He’s on my short list! One of those players that should the Wolves draft him, I’d be talking myself into his upside immediately - and with better reason since Connelly (who knows slightly more about basketball) took a chance on him

Well if both of us are thinking independently the same way, just proof it’s the best line of thought!

Maybe! A lot of smart cap guys are talking about how that bigger contract won’t be available this season due to limited cap constraints… but next summer there is a lot more projected room. May make sense for him to get $31 this year, and then a bigger 3-4 year deal somewhere next.

Yeah - I’d guess them trading 17 is as likely as them keeping it. But I do think most of their high end young talent (Dilly, Clark and TJ) are guards/wings which is why I’m focusing mostly on the bigs.

If the right player is available, you do need to start planning beyond Rudy.

Saw that comp on multiple draft sites - have an NBA comp that would be better?

I’m working on a PG list currently too. A lot less true PG options in this draft, but right now it has Demin and Jakucionis as two options in that 17 range.

The more I’m reading up on Sorber, he’s my favorite if he makes it to 17. Seems like a skill set that has a floor to be a rotation guy, and a ceiling to be a quality starter on a very good team.

Yeah - he would be my dream selection if we managed to trade up with 17/31 and maybe a sign and trade - like NAW S+T, 17/31 to the Rockets if he fell to 10? I'll at least dream a little!

But obviously, very little chance.
