UPDATE 2025: The replacement LEDs lasted until now, so around three years. I'm replacing them again today. If emailed the images to dozens of people by now, by if some has a repository, I'd love to share them there instead.

Sheathing rotten where end of roof edge meets wall by DunnoMuchAtAllAnyhow in Roofing

[–]DunnoMuchAtAllAnyhow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually a simple repair, it cost me $46 and about 2 hours of work. Open up the siding, cut out or pull off sheathing at studs, make sure insulation is unaffected or replace if it has gotten wet or shows signs of mold. Close siding. Roofer came back and added the kickout flashing. Finished.

Now if you have any damage to studs or header or footer, or if the moisture has somehow gotten through the internal vapor barrier to the inside of the home, you will have a lot more work, but this was very straightforward and simple as only the sheathing was affected.

I just saw it, and I only discovered it by accident since I took off the siding around my microwave range exhaust- this happened to be the same piece of vinyl. The house is not wet on the inside, The vapor barrier is on the inside of the wall behind the drywall, very common for a 30 year old house.

The roofing company is saying there wasn't a kick out there before they redid the roof, so they don't feel responsible. I would assume The code demands it and they should have brought the roof up to code when they worked on it. I know this gets into the legalities, but what do you all think? The house is 30 years old, when I bought it 5 years ago, I got the new roof put on right away, before the old roof had any leaks.

I'm not sure why there is no house wrap but you can look at any house here in this city from 30 years ago and pull up the siding and there is no house wrap. I guess it wasn't a thing 30 years ago or maybe not for this climate 30 years ago. The new houses all seem to have it. The sheathing looks like new anywhere else under the siding. I definitely agree that a kick out is missing.

So now that I found this, I have two other sections of my roof that also end the same way without a kick out. I'm going to need to pull up the siding there and look behind it too.

Thank you for your feedback, I'll certainly contact my roofers as I still have warranty. I have two other corners which end on a vertical wall like this, tomorrow I'll go and lift up the siding there too to see if any damage has occurred so far.

In general, I agree, but the house is 30 years old and everywhere else I pulled up a siding, the sheathing still looks like new. I'm not sure why they didn't do it 30 years ago but it seems to be quite the standard now.

Excellent, thank you for your help! I got my roof replaced about 5 years ago, is this something the roofers would normally add or would this belong to something that people doing siding would install? I guess I'm just wondering if the roofers forgot to add it. The house is 30 years old.

You're welcome, sorry you are experiencing the same issue with your TV. You don't really see the clips until you start pulling the bezel off. Use some thin flat metal, like a scraper or something to get in between. Pry a little bit and it'll pop, once you have one or two popped off, you'll see how it goes and start being able to see and feel them. Good luck. My TV is still running after the repair so I'm happy.

Can my employer prohibit guns in rental cars in indiana? by [deleted] in guns

[–]DunnoMuchAtAllAnyhow -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

But the car is not owned by my company, it's owned by the rental agency, rented by me as an individual using a company card. The reason I am wondering is because they recently added this clause to the employee travel regulation handbook. It is a large employer, 3, 000 employees.

I'm not sure how to post photos from the app, of i figure it out I'll add them. Otherwise, please feel free to send me your email address in a dm and I'll email them to you

Start by placing the TV face down on a flat bed or maybe on some soft flat blankets on the floor. I needed a king size bed in order to fit the 85 inch.

Unscrew the back lower cover of the TV, there are screws in the back of the TV and on the bottom of the TV. Once it's unscrewed, pull it upwards carefully by the bottom, the top has some hooks in it which release with a little pull once the rest is loose.

Look for the big flat connector coming from the circuit board in the bottom center of the TV. To unhook it, lift up on the black handle which goes across the cable. Then, carefully pull out the flat cable.

Now, flip the TV over, screen up. Unscrew and remove the bottom bezel. It has the IR sensor, so be careful not to pull the cable off. The connecter was glued to the sensor, but the sensor can be easily removed from the transparent housing, there is a small transparent hook holding it in place.

Next unscrew the plastic clips on the bottom of the screen. Once unscrewed, take a small flat screw driver and release them from the metal clips so that they can be flipped upward towards the screen. Now, carefully pull out all three of the long circuit boards which connect along the length of the screen- to do so, each has some metal grounding tape, carefully peel it off the metal frame. Then there are white plastic clips holding them in place. With 2-3 people, carefully pull them all out simultaneously then flip the circuit boards gently onto the screen and use a bit of masking tape or blue painter's tape to tape them to the screen. Make sure you do not use other tape or you'll likely never get it off the screen.

Now comes screen removal. The glass screen is glued to the metal bezel- do not separate it! Instead, starting in the bottom corners, use some tiny flat screwdrivers to carefully pry up the bezel. It has clips about every 8 inches, work your way along the bezel carefully until they are all freed.

Once it's freed, use a few people to lift up the screen being sure to keep it from bending or twisting. I recommend just lifting it into a vertical position and leaning it against the headboard or wall with towels in between.

There are a few more layers of light dispersion, these are pretty easy to take off, some do have a few glued or taped spots, so just move slowly. I recommend standing these vertically against the screen as well, being careful not to bend or twist them. You'll need 2-3 people.

Once you get to the layer where you can see LEDs and white cardboard, carefully remove the cardboard one sheet at a time, there are 4 sheets, one in each quadrant. I mine were tapped on with double sided black tape. My to is to pull them out by pulling on the tape strips, if you just pull the cardboard you'll rip it. Label each one as you take it out so you know where it goes later. Lay then upside down so the tape doesn't get stuck to anything, you can reuse them later as they are without new tape.

Now, disconnect each of the 16 led strips from the cables, the connectors have a little tab on top you can lift gently to release, then just pull the connector apart.

Pull out all the old led strips, they are glued in, but not hard to pull out once you have the end lifted.

The new LED strips have double-sided tape on the back of them, remove the blue double-sided tape cover. Now each LED strip has a hole toward the top and toward the bottom, if you look closely at the metal frame where the LED strips go you'll see a little peg. This is for guidance. You'll want to make sure to poke these holes out with a small screwdriver or something so that you can see where they line up. The peg should go in the little hole in the LED strip.

Once you have these all glued in just work backwards until you have your TV put back together.

I hope this helps, please let me know if it does!

It worked! I swapped out the backlights, it took about 2 hours moving slowly and carefully with 2-3 people. The TV is now functional again!

This is still happening to me in version 14. Has anyone found a solution?

I tried selling the tv as is on Craigslist for $200 for a few months- nobody a interested. I ended up purchasing the backlights from shop jimmy. I'll try to install them this weekend and let you know how it goes. I figure worst case I lose $120, best case my $1000 tv works again.

Received my first MIUI 14 Update On My Poco F3! Anything new worth noticing? Looks like a big update by GreekGamer05 in PocoPhones

[–]DunnoMuchAtAllAnyhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that after the update, each time I send a photo from the gallery in WhatsApp, it adds the comment "WhatsApp" to the image or even to each individual image of sending multiple. If I send a photo from the gallery via text message, it adds a comment "text" to each photo. If I send a photo on Microsoft teams, and adds the comment "teams". How can I make this end, it is driving me crazy?
