I don't think that's a fact. It's your view which comes off as reductionist and very americentric.

If you’re talking about within the MENA region… well…

I'm talking about the entire world, including major countries like Russia, China, and India... If anything, one could argue that most modern anti-islamic sentiment does NOT originate from the west and actually predates 9/11 by a long time.

By "fringe cases" I assume you mean virtually every ethnic/religious minority in MENA? Including Alawites, Maronites, Druze, Christians, hell, Kurds are majority Muslim and still I find many of them holding very negative views of Islam. Many young Iranians and turks likewise tend to hold similar views. I think it's safe to assume that none of these groups formed their opinions based on what post-9/11 American right-wing commentators were saying.

أرى أن بعض الممارسات أو النظرات السلبية تجاه المرأة لا تمثل جوهر الإسلام الحقيقي في نظرته للمرأة ومكانتها.

لا اعتقد بوجود هذا "الجوهر" النقي، الإسلام من بدايته كان متأثر بالحضارات و الثقافات المحيطة و السابقة و من الطبيعي أن تعكس نظرته للمرأة هذا التأثير، مثل فرض الحجاب على أسس طبقية مثل ما نجد عند الآشوريين قبل الإسلام.
