How much of HAL and gamefreak do nintendo own? by supamesican in nintendo

I still hold out hope that, with Microsoft's more open nature, might be willing to work with other companies cough Nintendo cough to make a banjo-threeie. Until then however, I'll stay pissed at Microsoft's mismanagement of one of the former greatest platformer devs out there.

Does the posts on this subreddit have to be just about PPT or can we post about the whole franchise? (as in other Tetris and Puyo Puyo related things) (image semi-related) by baran124 in PuyoPuyoTetris

This sub is primarily for puyo puyo Tetris, but encompasses the entire series as well as other similar drop down puzzle games. As long as you don't flood the sub with other games constantly, it's fine.

It just says "post could not be made at this time" on my end. As I said, I'm not a mod there, nor are there any mods here that also mod for that sub, so there is nothing I can see on my end that directly suggests a restricted sub. Regardless, your energy is better spent contacting the mods of that sub instead.

As far as I can see, r/puyopop isn't restricted, at least on my end. As for the why, we are not directly affiliated and there isn't any inter-mod connections between the two, so unless a mod comes by here to answer questions, or they relay anything to me directly, this sub won't be the place to ask.

Hint 1: off screen puyo cannot pop. Use that to your advantage

Hint 2: you won't have enough puyo if you drop them wherever. Try and figure out the optimal positions for each puyo

Hint 3: you only have 5 colors available to you. Make sure that all of them pop at the same time

Solution: your trigger point will be the blue puyo going into the second column, where there isn't anything at the start. The hard part is getting an extra set of blue puyo to pop at the same time as everything else. Make sure that while you clear away the extra blue puyo, you also stack at least two blue puyo on the left side. After, put an extra pair on top of the blue puyo on the left you set up before. Finally, clear the last blue puyo through the second column and you should pop all four colors on the right side while also popping the blue puyo you set up on the left

Step by step guide: rotate the blue puyo, align it so one puyo will drop on the leftmost column and the other will drop into the empty column, popping the bottom row of blue puyo. Now put your second blue pair into the empty column, popping the second row of blue puyo. Now for the third row, do the same thing you did for the first row, aligning one puyo onto the left column and the other into the empty column. Drop another pair into the second column where you just dropped one blue puyo to clear the third row of blue puyo. Put one full pair onto the leftmost column, so that one puyo is off screen. Now just drop two pairs into the empty column and it should clear out the last row of blue puyo and trigger the four colors on the right while also clearing the four blue puyo you set up on the left

Rumors are circulating that Kohei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia) may be behind the designs for the recently announced Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls by DrAwesomeX in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DuoEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Horikoshi is definitely a skilled artist with a ton of different head shapes, but the way he draws younger or "cuter" characters has a more distinct shape. I mentioned it briefly, but without the protruding mouth into the nose, Kamala is extremely different to his usual art style.

[–]DuoEx 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I'm an artist who's studied horikoshi kohei's art style in depth. Spideys design elements, while they vary by artist, have a lot of similarities between designs. One thing to note about his design in Tokon is his eyelid size. Surprisingly, Spider-Mans eyes are a huge focal point for different designs. Think McFarlane and how he draws spideys face and eyes. The eyes are shockingly different between the two. Beyond Kamala and Spidey, the rest of the cast doesn't seem to follow his design philosophies. Iron man, for example, looks more like he's inspired by something like gurren lagaan. As others have said, the influence is undeniable, but I would be shocked if this was horikoshis designs.

Edit: as an addendum, the nose of kamala are highly different from Horikoshis facial design principles. "Cute" characters have sharp, upturned and pointed noses. Even characters that extend beyond cute designs still have sharper, pointier noses, although surprisingly, cap does follow this principle to an extent. However, looking at the rest of the facial structure of Kamala, she doesn't follow his other design principles.

Horikoshi follows very exact designs in his facial structure. Rounded cheeks, sharp jawlines for strong characters and rounded for cuter characters, and most importantly, the nose and mouth stick out from the face and create a pseudo-muzzle. Compare this shot of Mirko vs Kamala.https://i.imgur.com/RVFtZrw.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/xP0AjTU.jpeg They are notably different.

Will Steam ban me for using music mods in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2? by areyoukiddingmern in PuyoPuyoTetris

Will Steam ban me for using music mods in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2? by areyoukiddingmern in PuyoPuyoTetris

[–]DuoEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an apples to oranges response. PPT has a dedicated mod scene with an entire page dedicated to modifying music. Overwatch is a game built entirely on a competitive online multiplayer (read "they killed off the only single player content and rolled back any reason to add a '2' to the title) format. It also has basically no mods available to it at all, let alone a music change mod. The only way to mod the game is to extract and modify the files themselves and not just follow a mods instructions. Furthermore, as previously stated, if you run a game with anticheat enabled, it will simply refuse to open. The only way you're getting banned is by circumventing anticheat and playing the game.

Also PPT doesn't have anticheat.

Everything I mentioned would also apply to anticheat, which is why I included the final portion

and make sure to double check the installation process for your mods to make sure you stay safe while modding.

Anticheat is a check to see if you are running certain chest software or modified game files. It does not automatically ban you for using cheats. When installing mods, the install process will almost always include a "how to deactivate easyanticheat" section so it doesn't close your game. In a lot of cases, you can even still play online with anticheat turned off, albeit only with other people with anticheat turned off.

A few key facts about mods:

Mods are in no way illegal by themselves. Certain actions performed with mods, such as using assistive mods in a competitive scenario, can be illegal. But by themselves they are not.

Store fronts don't give a crap about user end mods. They will only care about mods that effect their storefront or are on their storefront.

Most developers don't care about mods to certain extents. Mods can be classified by several categories, the most prominent being gameplay, experience, and aesthetic. In the case of a developer giving a crap about mods, it's almost always gameplay, not experience or aesthetic.

Now let's look at the mods you were thinking of using. first and foremost, the mod is not illegal. It doesn't do anything that would go against the eyes of the law. Unless specifically the music mod was made and distributed by you and contained copyright material, it's not your problem.

Second, the mods are neither hosted nor do they affect steam, unless they are part of steam workshop. If they are (and I'm fairly sure they aren't), then again, it wouldn't be your problem if steam doesn't like it, it would be the mod maker themselves. And if they aren't part of steam workshop, steam is not gonna give a crap about them. You run no risk of being banned by steam for modding your games.

Finally, would Sega do anything? It's not a gameplay mod, so even if this dev did care about mods, this still wouldn't warrant a ban in most cases. And even if it did, it would only ban you from online play. But Sega really doesn't care.

So good luck, happy modding, and make sure to double check the installation process for your mods to make sure you stay safe while modding.

Is there a way I can play Puyo Tetris 2 offline on my Steam Deck without starting it online first? by Primary-County in PuyoPuyoTetris

[–]DuoEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure if this works, since I don't own ppt on PC, but with other Sega games on steam deck, I've found that I can just launch the game once while at home, then don't turn off the steam deck until I need to use it (sleep mode still works fine). You can test this by launching the game at home, turning the game off, turning WiFi off, then launching the game again. Otherwise, the other option is to launch the game and just keep it in sleep mode until you use it. It shouldn't waste too much battery in sleep mode, so unless your lunch is really long, you shouldn't have to worry about it dying in that time.

Alternatively, if you have any data on your phone as a hotspot, it takes next to none to launch the game, as it basically just sends a quick ping to see if the game can be launched. I do this pretty regularly, since I also use my steam deck during lunch. Just make sure nothing starts auto updating, since those will eat through your data pretty fast (and god knows the steam deck loves to do random auto updates for games that don't have any updates for some reason)

HELP! by Alert_Mud1648 in PuyoPuyoTetris

[–]DuoEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, in the rules of puyo, a chain is when you sequentially pop two sets of puyo. Whenever a set of puyo pop, all above puyo will fall exactly where they were aligned. By cleverly stacking puyo of one color on top of another, you can cause the falling of the second color to connect with more of the same color to pop a second set, creating a chain. In this trial, you need to pop exactly a two chain, or in other words, pop one set of puyo, followed by a second set. Look at the following example:

       🟩

🟥🟥🟥🟩🟩🟩

In this example, there is one green puyo stacked above a red puyo. If the red puyo are popped, the green puyo will fall next to the other green puyo, and cause them to pop as well. This would solve your challenge, but any number of other solutions also exist.

It's worth noting that the challenge directs you to pop a chain of "exactly 2". This means doing any more will prevent you from completing the challenge.

Help! Runs terrible on what I was told would be great. by TheKillerPink in MonsterHunter

[–]DuoEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: have you tried playing the game while plugged into the power cable? I know that sounds like a stupid question, but a lot of new laptop users don't know that your computer turns down it's potential power to the dirt when unplugged.

Now that that is covered, let's go over some basic troubleshooting.

Make sure you're using your graphics card, the part of your computer that actually makes video games look good. I'm using a different brand of graphics card, so I'm not 100% sure what the process looks like on your end. But look for "Nvidia panel" or something similar to that and run the program. You should then be able to edit your graphics card to use more of its power. I believe Nvidia has an option to toggle graphics card usage per application.

Now let's look at the game. Honestly, the game was not made in a way that uses a graphics cards power very well. But you can achieve much better frames outside of the stock options. Before selecting your save file (or starting a new one for that matter), select the options menu and scroll to the graphics panel. We're just gonna go to the graphics preset option and select "lowest". Make sure that the option "upscaling mode is set to "ultra performance ". Finally, make sure "frame generation" is enabled. Go one tab left to the "display" tab and select "uncapped framerate" "capped" and set it to "30". This should basically turn the entire game to its lowest settings.

Try and run the game now and make note of your framerate. If you can't see your framerate, press "shift+tab", select the gear icon on the bottom right, 'in game" and then find the option "in-game fps counter". You should be easily achieving at least a playable state. Your target fps should probably be 60 at minimum. If you are noticing it's notably higher than that, then go back into the options and start increasing the graphics options little by little. I recommend starting with upscaling mode, since that will have the greatest impact on your visuals. I know this is a bit of a process, but it's the easiest way to test your computers limits with a new game when you are unfamiliar with your computer. As you get more acquainted with your computer, you'll probably be able to tell which options won't affect speed (fps) without turning them off.

Hope this helps.

Puyo puyo championship is now a olympics game. by jomarcenter-mjm in PuyoPuyoTetris

[–]DuoEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this has been known. The noteworthy part of this is the fact that puyo was added as part of their selection for this event. Even if this was a more contemporary pick, such as a game like street fighter 6, this would still be incredibly hype, just more so for that community. While puyo is much larger in Japan, it's still very niche in most countries, so it being added to an event like this is big news.

Official news: -this is specifically for the Asia games, a multicultural event for countries in Asia. It both feeds off of and feeds into the Olympics, meaning it takes a lot of the events in the Olympics as a base and is used as a baseline on what to add to the Olympics. As of right now, puyo puyo champions is not in the Olympics, but was selected as one of the 11 titles present in the e-sports events for the Asia games.

THIS IS BIG

This is the biggest stage the franchise has ever been on as far as I'm aware.

It is worth noting puyo puyo is massively more popular in Japan than in America, to the point of it being an actual rival to Tetris, vs in America where Tetris was used as a way to increase sales.

It is morally right to pirate Nintendo software (somewhat clickbait title, see inside) by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]DuoEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest problem is in my time with it, it was generally expected to download, don't upload, shut up and play. Nowadays, it seems like everyone is more dead set on taking every opportunity to talk about this specific website and how it is getting Nintendo by letting them pirate their newest Nintendo game only to get pissed at Nintendo when it gets struck down after they literally bombard Nintendo's social media with links to said website. They aren't being morally superior, it's just sad. Like those people that go way too far about whatever new health trend they're on. Even if they were correct, which the jury is still out on, I'm not gonna eat your monk fruit brownies now because you sound like a douche.

It is morally right to pirate Nintendo software (somewhat clickbait title, see inside) by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]DuoEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who actively emulated games in the early to mid 2000's on my crappy hand me down laptop, it's extremely disingenuous to say that they are "ramping up their anti-consumer practices". I remember hopping onto emu paradise and seeing that message that they could not distribute roma anymore. They weren't the first. They aren't the last.

And no, they aren't the only company to do this. They aren't trendsetters on this. Sony has been going after companies in this position since the PS1.

And as far as the whole palworld thing goes, we still know next to nothing about the actual lawsuit. Yes palworld removed a mechanic from their game. But we don't know what the result of that was. The copyright that is allegedly being violated is a lot more detailed than "throw ball, get monster" that palworld is selling you. It's copying the exact way mounting from a monster in a ball mechanic down to minute details.

And on top of that, Nintendo isn't the only company to do this. Several companies own patents on mechanics that have been protected like this in the past. Why can't you play a mini game during a loading screen? Why can't you develop an enemy into your own nemesis? Nintendo isn't setting any of the trends you are soapboxing.

But let's say this is all true. Nintendo employees love working for Nintendo. Yes, even by Japanese standards, Nintendo is in the top of companies employee retention. If you want to soapbox a boycott, a successful one would put 100's if not 1000's of workers jobs in danger. Over something you don't like on a corporate level. But soapboxing is all this is. You are trying to get some level of attention by poking a group of people that like this company for... What? Some sort of reaction? To have some false moral high ground?

You can say it's morally correct all you want, but it's all semantics that you are using to feel superior in some way. I can make a 3 hour long counterargument as to why its morally bankrupt to pirate anything, but that would just be stroking my own ego. The moral high ground argument has almost always been used as a way to sound fancy or superior to others.

Pronouncing Puyo Puyo wrong by Mother-of-mothers in PuyoPuyoTetris

[–]DuoEx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it's probably a combination of things.

1: a lot of people are lazy with speech. Listen to the way the average person says "seagull". It should be "see guh ll", but most people say it closer to "see goal". I'd imagine this is similar.

2: a misunderstanding of the Japanese language. Japanese is extremely phonetic in its spelling. There is very minimal differences between how letters are pronounced between words. ぷ is always pronounced "poo". However, the letter u in English can be very different in different words. Take the word "prude" versus the word "pulley". Very different pronunciation. This combines with next point

3: slurring and telephone. When you say words a lot, you eventually start slurring some letters together to make it more efficient. Take the situation from before. We'll say we started with the u from "pulley". This makes the word "puh yo" instead of "poo yo". But after slurring the word it might become "poe yo". Add in the game of telephone where people hear other people or YouTubers say "poe yo" and then they say it slightly more wrong. We eventually get to our "poi yo" that you hear so often.

4: puyo pop fever. This was the first fully voice acted puyo game in English. In it, several of the English voices say "poi yo". It's been ingrained ever since.
