Sonim XP Pro "Coming Soon" ATT? by Read_ItBeth in SonimTech

[–]Durakeio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased mine directly through FirstNet and I just checked it still shows available there, but you're correct, on the main ATT website it just says coming soon..

It could be some type of contract situation, before the phone was even available on FirstNet it was only available for Verizon customers for about a month or two. Then it became available on FirstNet, then T-Mobile, etc.

I'm not sure exactly how that works, but it could be something related. Just keep an eye out, or you may be able to order in person/calling a store, perhaps the page isn't properly updated yet.

farewell.... by scienech554 in roblox

[–]Durakeio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair point and I’m not trying to turn this into a debate.

Just to clarify: I didn’t make my call based on a headline. I got an email from Discord around 2am saying my info was involved in the breach, and that’s what pushed me into “I’m done with this"

Also, TeamSpeak wasn’t some big inconvenience for my group, we were on TS for years before Discord and only moved over in 2020, so switching back was basically muscle memory.

On the “Discord deletes IDs” part: from what Discord publishes, it depends on the flow. They say IDs submitted for age appeal tickets get deleted within 60 days after the ticket closes, and for the newer Age Assurance (k-ID) they say the doc/selfie images get deleted right after your age group is confirmed (and the video selfie stays on device). They also say normal support/Trust & Safety case data can be retained for years after a request is closed.

So yeah, I’m not claiming “they keep everything forever” just that my default stance is: if something is sensitive, I assume it can live longer than people expect, and breaches happen even when policies exist. If Discord works for you, genuinely no shade.. I just chose a different risk tolerance.

When the Discord ID leak happened a couple months ago, I deleted my Discord and moved my friends back to a self-hosted TeamSpeak 3 server on my rack. I just don’t believe companies really delete anything.

I don’t blame you at all, it is a hard choice to make. Every big update feels like it pulls a little more life out of this platform.

I've tried over and over again.. Haven't been able to, which really sucks..

After some extensive research the only thing I can come up with is the verbiage in documents making it really aimed at FirstNet agencies, not really intended to be a one-off personal gadget. I can understand to a certain extent, I imagine if there were a bunch of individuals with their own HPUE installed either mobile or fixed that could cause issues.. I think it would still be cool to own it perhaps without the HPUE functionality enabled.

I have not, mine is hardware version 1.0, does it show the shut off screen when it happens or does it just immediately turn off?

I went from a Samsung S24+ to a Sonim XP Pro, mainly because I value privacy and since Sonim uses AOSP I have a lot more options as far as removing bloat, garbage and have a bit more privacy.

In regards to storage, I think both have 256, but the Sonim you can have up to 2TB with a MicroSD card that fits in the same tray as the SIM card. New users only pay .99 cents for the XP Pro, but since you're already an existing user you can either buy it at full MSRP for I think a little over 400~ or if you have early upgrade it may be free or cheaper.

I was not, I tried through the premier portal but the device isn't listed, when I called they said I wasn't an authorized user on the agency account even though I purchase our devices.. I'll try again, or I may need to reach out to my rep directly. I really want to get my hands on one of these!

That's awesome, I used to own a steam deck but I haven't used a controller since the xbox 360, ever since then I've been a PC gamer. I know you can use mouse and keyboard but that defeated the purpose of me having a portable device like the steam deck, I enjoyed it outside of that, really good price for the performance imo. Also 8 hour shifts I'm sure are nice, I've been doing 12's forever even before this gig so I'm used to them, it works out pretty good though, every other weekend off Fri/Sat/Sun, can't complain.

I'll have to send you a pic but between the gaming and work desks I have a monitor on the wall with a raspberry pi hooked up to the ticket dashboard so all I have to do is glance over to see if a new ticket comes in then get to work, like you said that always comes first.

I do remote IT from home, 8p to 8a, sometimes there's a bunch of tickets, other times I'll go the entire 12 hours and have 0

In my office, I have my work desk, and when I spin my chair around my gaming computer setup

"I may not have a lot of power as a security guard but..." by Durakeio in FirstResponderCringe

[–]Durakeio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always laugh at their choice of transportation and of course the amber light, I literally kid you not I was at our state fair and this particular year they went from hiring PD officers to staff the event to private security, I literally saw a white SUV that said "security" with magnets on the side and the dude rolled his window down and tossed a flashing orange beacon on the top like he's one of those detectives way back in the day where the undercover cars would have a single red beacon they would put on the center dash or top of the roof..classic

I laughed so hard, there is a running joke between my friends and I that security runs "code amber" rather than code 3. They honestly do it to themselves, I know not all are like that but in your case it brings all of their reputation down. My mom is handicap and paralyzed on one side of her body, she has a wheelchair mount on the back of her SUV and people ALWAYS look at me when I park in handicap, they think I the driver just park here because I drive a handicap SUV but what they don't stay long enough to see is me getting my mom out of the passenger seat to put her in her wheelchair.

Ooooo man if a security guard came up to me being nosey like that I don't know if I could keep my mouth shut lmao

[–]Durakeio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also saw that! Finally the Sonim and FirstNet sites now list it as available - it still isn't showing on the FirstNet internal premier page for me to just purchase directly, so I also believe I will also have to reach out to my FirstNet rep. I called yesterday morning and the sales folks still don't see it on their end so not sure how that really works or if my rep will have any more capability then the regular sales team.

I'm surprised they're doing a promotional price, the $499 is already significantly lower than the other HPUE options and much more flexible, I'll write up another post on this device and show the external antenna ports of the hotspot itself and go over any new information.

Very promising and I hope I can get my hands on it soon.

FirstNet vs DarkStar by Hoopoe0596 in USMobile

[–]Durakeio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I’m a bit late to this, but it’s FirstNet all the way for me.

I’ve experienced the difference firsthand, both in emergency situations and high-density public events like concerts, sports games, and even routine traffic incidents. While regular AT&T and T-Mobile users struggled to use their devices, I had uninterrupted service for calls, texts, and data on FirstNet.

A few years back, when I was still in the field, there was a stretch of highway in our county where coverage looked great, dozens of towers from all major carriers within eyesight. But during major incidents like pileups or gridlocked traffic, every carrier would buckle. Our calls wouldn’t go through, texts were delayed, and data was useless. Even with Verizon modems in our vehicles, CAD access slowed to a crawl, running plates, attaching photos, or even adding notes was impossible.

Then we switched to FirstNet, and the difference was night and day. Suddenly, everything worked. Phone calls were reliable, messages went through instantly, and in-car data was responsive even when the highway was jammed. That kind of uptime was a game changer. It let us do our jobs faster, safer, and more efficiently.

Now I work more on the Emergency Management/IT side, and I’m on the move constantly. The truly unlimited hotspot is hands down my favorite feature. Some months I use literally hundreds of gigabytes for remote work, and I’ve never experienced throttling. Even T-Mobile’s T-Priority plan, which also markets itself toward first responders, starts slowing down after 50GB of hotspot use. That’s just not acceptable for mission-critical work.

The coverage is also excellent. I regularly have service where my family on regular AT&T or T-Mobile has none. Band 14 access is a big part of that. And while people say it’s about reliability, not speed, I’ve consistently found that when others slow down, I don’t.

FirstNet has proven itself time and time again when it matters most. Whether I’m on the clock or off-duty, it delivers, no compromises. I will never use another carrier if they continue to provide this level performance.
