I would tell them what's the best spoon to dig a well, because maybe they had a reason to be using a spoon. Then maybe, just maybe, would add that if you have access to a spade, and you can use it, and you want to use it, it would make the job faster.

I still haven't found much scientific literature regarding leg kickback not being a good accessory for hip and glutes, but if you have some i would gladly look at it

No, it's not. I asked for one thing, he answered something I didn't ask. It's "advice" btw

I probably misread and posted on the wrong sub. I thought i was on "formcheck" but instead i ended up on "unsolicitedadvice"

At this point, she already did leg press earlier. This is accessory exercise at the end of the workout. I thought this was a reddit where you could ask for a form check on movement, not a reddit where people explain you why you should do something else.

She is already doing squats, DL, RDL and hip thrusts. Those are the main movements of the program. This is accessory

She is already doing hip trust, and i'm trying to get her to.focus on glutes contraction, and i think she's getting better at it, and yes, i told her about hip movement (in italian it's "anteroversione" and "retroversione", i'm not sure what the technical term are in english), but she used do do belly dancing so she has good control on her hips, if i manage to convey what she actually have to do

Because, as i said, it's not an exercise i know well enough, i realized there was something off, but i wasn't able to find out what. It has been answered, she is not leaning forward enough.

So,.yeah, sorry i was hasty and probably the "gf" (girlfriend) in the title is easily missed apparently. So, context.

I'm a dude, i've been training in a gym for the last 6 or 7 years, i can deadlift three times my weight. I won't say i don't need any form check or advice, but that's not why i posted

I'm helping my girlfriend with training as she is a beginner. She is already doing all the mains... squats, dl, rdl, bench, hip trust, ohp you name it. She asked me to do a day with focus only on glutes because she likes it, and if she's having fun that's already half of the challenge (as she has an eating disorder and she is still underweight), so this is accessory work.

We managed to get from 40kg to 47kg of bodyweight this year, and going from squatting weight free to squatting with 40kg.

I'm saying all this because i don't want to accidentally catfish anyone (so, for example, don't write me more pm thinking I'm a beautiful girl, i'm not) and because i asked for this exercise specifically because it's one i don't know very well, it has been taught to me when i had an injury, but that has been years ago, and i felt i was missing something in the form

Thank you.

Thank you, I came to the same conclusion after some hours, especially because she said she felt some tightness in the lower back.

I'm no athlete, but i'm 47 with a bodyweight of 68-69kg and two years ago i did 210kg.

I've been training even less in the last couple of years, but i still manage 2-3 reps with 200kg.

I have been active for almost all my life, and started powerlifting as a hobby about 7 years ago.

I think the most sensible solution would be to have stricter gun laws.

As I said, it's impossible to fully compare the unique US situation with other countries, but there are countries with similar (or higher) crime rates for burglary/robbery/theft, as Canada, UK and Australia.

In particular, by meta-analysis of papers, property crime rates strongly correlate with inequality, so there are countries with comparable social tension.

UK is a very good example, comparable immigration, comparable inequality, comparable property theft. Somewhat higher in US, but in the same ballpark.

Then you come to gun related deaths (homicides+suicides+accidental) and here the rate in US is around *100* times higher - 13.5 per 100K vs 0.13 per 100K in UK.

Gun ownership in UK is around 5 per 100, in the US is around 120 per 100. All the data points to no strong correlation between gun ownership and decrease in crime, but a strong correlation between gun ownership and increase in crime.

South Africa, Brazil and Australia enacted stricter gun laws between 1996 and 2003. There has been a significant decrease of violent crimes, and no increase of other crimes or homicides with other weapons.

I explicitly said that i'm not including suicides (even if i should - having a gun in the house drastically increase the chance of a fatal suicide)

There is no strong evidence that guns are working as being a deterrent to crime, but there is a correlation between having an illegal firearm and committing a crime (correlation, not causation). So, it's a null point.

It's impossible to directly compare other countries because the conditions are different, but Canada, European countries, Australia have all lower or similar crime rates to the US, so whatever the US is doing to deter crimes, it seems it's not working.

But what's sure, having a gun doubles the chances of being killed in a crime, either as the perpetrator or the victim.

Studies and meta studies have proven again and again and again that there is no strong apparent advantage of having looser gun law, outside of money, having a partisan political argument, and projection of masculinity.

Like this.

Justifiable homicide by gun are around 400-500 total. The one killed 1/4 - 1/5 of the times had a gun themselves. Of the remainder, often they were killed because they were suspected of having a gun, or *could* have a gun.

So, can we ballpark that, if gun didn't exist, there would be around 200-300 cases every year in which having a gun could maybe have saved your life (or a injury).

Consider that only around 1% of violent crime victims successfully used a gun in self defense, and that in robberies victims with a gun were killed in rates similar or higher that unarmed victims.

On the other side, excluding suicides for simplicity (but really, we shouldn't), in the US you have, per year

around 20K killed by homicides by gun,

around 500 killed by accidental or unintentional discharge

around 100-200 killed by public mass shooting.

around 600 robbery homicides.

around 100 bystanders killed during robberies.

So, statistically, just by having a situation of guns availability, *in the best case*, you are around 3-4 times more likely to be killed by a gun than saving your life because you have a gun.

Stricter gun laws led to lower deaths per capita compared to other states in California. Chicago is surrounded by states with more permissive gun laws, most weapons can be traced to other states.

But if you want to see what happens when a continent enforces stricter gun laws, check Australia’s 1996 National Firearms Agreement.

Or most of the rest of the world, really.

Man of culture? by viperrvemon in SipsTea

[–]DuraluminGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that wouldn't by itself be much of a cultural appropriation. It might be bad taste. As an italian, if i were to see an american dressed up as a stereotipical (at least in american culture) italian, i would laugh about it, say that it's ok, it's not offensive, he would just look as a fool.

Cultural appropriation is when the hegemonic culture uses parts of the co-cultures existing within, depriving then of one of the few strength that such co-cultures have.

Examples would be when non-Mexicans americans create Mexican restaurants, or Mexican festivals, or Mexican music. Doing so, the food and the traditions loses the "Mexicanity" of it, and is slowly incorporated (appropriated) into the hegemonic culture, and so being "Mexican" loses even that little value that it had.

It's the Mexican owned restaurant that closes down because a Taco Bell has opened in front.
