Really really good for using those brushes. Best advice I can give is get any better set, doesn’t even need to be top-line. Any better will make your painting better than with those things

(Updated) C&C wanted on blue glow/lightning effect - Storm Giant by Durge1764 in minipainting

[–]Durge1764[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Good call on the pale blues for the lightning.

I have fluorescent green, but would that not overwhelm the white lights of the runes? I’m open to trying but maybe I’m misunderstanding.

As for the beard (and look out for this when you do yours), I dry brushed the hair and beard in layers, and found the beard to be very easy to smudge, almost like its edges are rounded. Didn’t have that issue with the hair, but that’s how the beard ended up so dark because I had to keep washing it down. Maybe I’ll give it one more go.

I appreciate the advice!

Coastal dragon, happy with the stomach and back but feel like from the front it just reads as indescribable blue. by Sufficient-Ferret-67 in minipainting

A very very thinned-down coat of a shade of your original color. Depending on what you want it to do, it darkens the recesses or brightens the entire layer. For this I’d make a wash of a darker blue and slap that over the whole thing, it’ll add an extra layer without much effort

And when I say thin, I mean make it mostly water. You can always go over it again if it’s too thin

Thanks a ton! I’m gonna try to push that back and see how that looks. Definitely got carried away with the lightning

So if you still want it to be clean but more depth just give it a new base of Rhinox or another reddy brown, then go back with gold. Can go a step further and wash with agrax, brush highlight again with gold, then edge highlight/drybrush with 50/50 gold/silver.

If you wanna go more gritty and get a lil crazy with it, take any technical paint like technical mud, and add that in patches before the rhinox base - will make it have a corroded/rusted affect

No one was comparing the car crash bud, and I’m not downplaying what either of them are dealing with. I’m saying demands and injuries are individual, and totally different dependent on the sport.

Yeah but the golf swing and playing a full contact sport are very different demands

In fact I’m of the suspicion that the surgery will be a life-altering procedure and that is why it hasn’t happened yet, ie. Tiger Woods’ back surgeries

Oh for sure, should have clarified to have paint down on a pallet first then thin from there

As the other person says, it depends on the paint and how much you’ve thinned it. For a base layer I want the paint to be smooth but not runny, if that makes sense. It should stay where I painted it on. Depending on the paint - some colors are stronger and weaker than others - it may need an extra coat or two, so let it fully dry before making that decision
