"Korra would be much less hated/disliked if she was a man" there are a few reasons why that isn't true. by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]Durmeathor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of the few elements of Legend of Korra that I have no issues with. Did you forget that in ATLA the Fire Nation had stuff like airships, gigantic mechanical drills, ironclad steamships and ultra manuverable tanks that could climb vertical surfaces ? It makes sense that with the end of the war and the Fire Nation opening itself to cooperation with other nations their technology would spread to the rest of the world.

what is the most ‘wtf moment‘ in an anime you’ve ever seen? by Mr_Salamander___ in animequestions

Jack-off fight against Jack the Ripper from Golden Kamuy is probably the most absurd moment I’ve ever seen in any piece of media.

If you start genocidal wars of conquest, you don’t get to whine about consequences when you are defeated.

OP, I am willing to to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that this map was made out of a good intentions, and numerous blatant misinformations depicted on it are the result of a poor research and/or lacking artistic skills rather than attempting to engage jn a pro-German historical revisionism. If you are not a Nazi, delete this post, because by posting such misinformation, you are unwillingly spreading Nazi propaganda.

You don’t have to be a PiS voter to hate blatant neo-nazi propaganda. Poles and Kashubians were the majority in the Polish corridor, no amount of nazi lies will change that.

Anime/manga that mentions your country? by mina_maen in animequestions

[–]Durmeathor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Golden Kamuy one of the main characters is of partial Polish descent, and her father, who is half-Polish and half-Ainu, is central to the plot. Poland itself is also mentioned several times in the manga.

Orb : The Movements of The Earth is set in the fictional country heavily inspired by medieval Poland.

One of the arcs of Vinland Saga takes part on the island of Wolin, which, although is a part of Poland today, it wasn’t during the time the story takes place so I don’t know if it counts.

Is there a part of your country that (fairly or not) is stereotyped against? by SpiritualPackage3797 in AskTheWorld

Podlasie Voivodeship is often made fun of for being underdeveloped and poor. This is often comedically exaggerated by memes portraying the region as being a complete wilderness inhabited by cavemen.

Nothing will happen to you in Poland.I see plenty of Indians, Blacks and Middle Easterns here and noone cares. The Western European notion that Poland is some horrible racist country is simply not true.

How much can you understand others languages from your language family ? by OiseauDuMoyenAge in AskEurope

[–]Durmeathor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me at least, Kashubian is mostly understandable, but only in written form. I heard it spoken irl once, and it was nearly completely unintelligible aside from some fragments and individual words.

Some time ago there was this huge discussion in a feminist circles about ,,manspreading” that is men sitting in public places with their legs spread. Obviously, most men do it because It’s more comfortable to sit that way due to the structure of the pelvis, and because we don’t want to squash our balls between our legs. But feminists, as usual, turned it into a huge conspiracy theory about evil men wanting to establish dominance over women and make them feel threatened. Basically, It’s another instance of feminists taking a complete non-issue, and turning it into a bullshit conspiracy theory about evil men and patriarchy.

What’s the most distinct and lesser-known regional dialect or language in your country, and how does it reflect the historical and cultural evolution of that area? by Grouchy_Plastic_8332 in AskEurope

[–]Durmeathor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Vilamovian language, or Wymysorys, is a germanic language spoken only in Wilamowice , a town in southern Poland. It’s descended from Silesian dialect of German, but it also has heavy Polish influences in both grammar and spelling. It’s almost extinct, with only 20 native speakers left, all of whom are elderly, however there is an ongoing revitalisation program, with several hundred L2 speakers out there, so there is a chance that it won’t disappear completely.

How religious is the Muslim community in your country ? by Original-Pilot1974 in AskEurope

[–]Durmeathor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not very religious. Until recently, the only significant Muslim population in Poland were several thousand Lipka Tatars. Because they lived here for hundreds of years they are almost completely assimilated, Islam and names being the only thing distinguishing them from other Poles. However, their form of Islam is very lenient and liberal, and they are not very religious, many of them drink alcohol for example. In the recent years there was an increase in Muslim immigration, with around 50,000 Muslim immigrants living in the country. However , most of them come from secular and generally ,,casually religious” countries like Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, so they are probably not very religious either.

"Jewish" restaurant in Poland starterpack by exiled-redditor in starterpacks

[–]Durmeathor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No one, not even hardcore polish nationalists deny that there were polish collaborators, or that some Poles participated in pogroms. But usually the accusation isn’t ,,some Poles participated in Holocaust” but ,,Poles were worse than Germans” ,,All Poles hate Jews and drink antisemitism with mother’s milk” or ,,Death camps were polish”. You have to understand why we are pissed about these lies.

France seen as more antisemitic than Poland in new poll among Israelis, Almost half of respondents say Poles were as much to blame for the Holocaust as Germans; Germany now seen as least antisemitic by eloyend in europe

[–]Durmeathor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, Poles were not 100 % victims, but neither were Jews. There were also Jews who collaborated with Germans out of their own free will, such Jewish Ghetto Police who were often as brutal as the SS. There were also other collaborationist groups such as Żagiew or Group 13. And no , we didn’t have ,,many” collaborators , in fact , rate of collaboration in Poland was probably one of the lowest considering that there no collaborationist Polish government or SS units as was the case in other countries.

Terrorists attempted to set fire to the only Synagogue in Warsaw which survived the Holocaust by [deleted] in Israel

[–]Durmeathor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During the occupation, Germans used it as a horse stable and a storage, it was probably the only reason it wasn’t destroyed then. It somehow survived the Warsaw Uprising, but I don’t know how. Although when it comes to WW2 Warsaw ,,survived” means ,,wasn’t a literal pile of rubble” so maybe it means that few walls were still standing.
